Applications :: TextEdit Will Not Quit
Jun 14, 2010I have a situation in which TextEdit simply will not Quit. It is constantly loaded. Even after a system reboot TextEdit is always loaded and displays a blank text edit window. The blank text edit window can be closed by not TextEdit application itself. Somehow, perhaps some setting, configuration, or possible conflict with another program it is being forced to stay open. It is not causing any system problems to my knowledge, but it is an irritant.

Dec 13, 2004How do you control the margins in TextEdit?
I am trying to create a manual which includes some screen snaps which fit on A4 paper, but TextEdit persistently has fat margins and won't print the images that are wider than width allowed by the margins.
The screen grabs appear on screen but when I print the document the wider images do not print although they leave a gap in the text equal to their height.
I have:
Adjusted the preferences:
� for window width which is in No of Characters (how wide is a character when you are using rtf?)
� checked Wrap to window which shows a page view but the margins don't change
� I have created an entire new page in Page Setup with fixed margins and selected it but nothing changes
Mac Help says the margins can be altered by dragging the page margin markers in the ruler, but they will not drag outside what seems to be the default margins, This wouldn't help with top and bottom margins anyway.
I have tried using Acrobat PDF as the printer but again I get no further options and nothing changes.
I am at my wits end. TextEdit is almost temptingly useful except for the weird UI.
Mac Pro :: I/O-open Error 5 On Applications/textedit?
Aug 12, 2008I am having some real "first" problems with my Mac Pro. The "repair" function is not able to do anything with it. Before I replace the disc, is there something I can do without replacing the disc? I have no idea what this malfunction is or how o understand it. This is my first Mac since the late '90's and I expected problems, it's a computer, and am not sure of the steps I need to analyze the problem or how to correct it. The only thing I need to back up are my clients photographs. The rest is replaceable. Perhaps I should also get advice on how to properly burn CD's for b/u of my wifes email. Well, my email also.

Feb 4, 2009I upgraded my powerbook to leopard about a year ago using Archive & Install. I just read that deleting your old archive is a good way to free up space, provided your machine is running well. I haven't had any problems. Has anybody done this that can provide any advice for or against deleting the folder?

Mar 1, 2009If I open TextEdit, it seems to work ok. But if I open an existing file (RTF), TextEdit opens but is "not responding" (says the Activity Monitor), for about 2 minutes. Then the file I wanted to open suddenly appears and works fine.
How come? And how can I make TextEdit work normally again?

Jun 21, 2014For reasons which escape me, since I rebooted yesterday, I have been unable to launch TextEdit, Preview or Pages - they just say not responding when their icon is ctrl-clicked in the Dock. I just checked Numbers and Keynote, which I have never used and after their initial welcome screen, they too became unresponsive. As far as I can tell, GarageBand, iPhoto and probably others in iLife are unaffected, neither are Mail and Safari.
I found that a similar problem was being experienced a few years ago by some people using TextEdit and Preview and it was solved by re-signing the application in Terminal. I have tried that but it hasn't worked. I have repaired permissions and I'm just downloading the Mavericks installer so that I can make a USB installer and re-install OS X 10.9.3.
I am downloading which may save me the trouble of re-installing OS X 10.9.3, I'd be very grateful.

Jan 4, 2009iTunes keeps deleting my songs! I had this problem with iTunes 7, and the problem went away with the update to 8.0.1. But with the 8.0.2, the problem came back. It deleted one album so far, and I have no way to retrieve this file. My iTunes folder is in my external HD, and I don't back that up regularly.

Applications :: ITunes Deleting Music That's In A Playlist?
Jan 24, 2009I have a fair bit of music in iTunes, and it has bugged me somewhat that often when I want to delete many files something it's easier to go into a playlist to find them. But when I delete them from there it only removes them from that playlist, not the computer. I guess this makes sense, and I suppose nowadays space isn't often a problem.
In case this isn't clear, what I want to do is go into a playlist, then select songs, then delete those songs from my hard drive.
Applications :: Acrobat Crashing - What Pref Not Deleting?
Apr 2, 2009I'm trying to get a copy of Acrobat Pro (CS3 version--I think it's 8) to stop crashing on an Intel iMac and I cannot for the life of me figure out where the corrupt pref is.
The crashes started after upgrading to 10.5, and happen about 20 seconds after opening it, regardless of what you're doing; the report appears to point to the update checker causing the crash, which would make sense based on the timing.
Now, if I create a clean account on the same machine, Acrobat runs fine, so it's got to be a pref issue of some sort. The Adobe Updater run manually also works, as do the other CS3 apps installed. I did also try completely reinstalling CS3, which didn't fix it.
Thing is, I've searched for every single user pref with "Adobe" or "Acrobat" in the filename, visible or invisible, folders and files both, and deleted ALL of them, regardless of the app they specify. Caches, plists, user Library application support files (not the root /Library ones, of course), and even after a restart it STILL crashes in exactly the same way.
Applications :: Deleting Imovie And Idvd Files?
Apr 24, 2009I imported DV video into imovie 06 (i have ilife 08 but like most others dont like using imovie 08) did my editing in movie 06. I then clicked on the idvd button, it opened idvd (08) but it hadnt imported the movie, so i simply went to the imovie file in finder and dragged and dropped it into idvd.
I then created an idvd project with the themes and all that jazz, clicked burn, and it took around 2 hours. I checked it in a dvd player, and it was perfect.
My question is now, can i delete the imovie 06 file from my comp. Its 12gb, and i have quite a few more to do, i was hoping that when id edited all my movies, i would be able to delete the movie files, in order to free my space back up. however i want to be able to make more copies.
Basically, Will i be able to burn more copies of the dvd, if i delete the imovie file?
Iv read things about 'image files' aswell, which might be part of it, im not sure, but as far as i know, i havnt done any other encoding or fancy importing when i put my movie into idvd.

Jun 7, 2009I think I posted this in the wrong place - community - as I am new to all this. However I am hoping someone can tell me how to get rid of old or inaccurate email addresses that come up in Entourage (Office 2004) when you begin to type in the first name of an addressee in a new email.
Sometimes you get things wrong, and the wretched thing never seems to go away! I don't know where the Entourage system gets it from, because I have attempted to delete the dud email addresses from all the obvious places.

Oct 25, 2009How I could delete themes that I downloaded from google chrome. Everytime I downloaded them, while it downloads it'll show up in my folder but once it finishes it, it automatically applies it and disappears from the folder. I checked chrome://extensions/in and it says no extensions. Does the browser not keep themes installed? When I click "reset default theme" does that mean the theme I installed automatically deletes?
