Applications :: Didn't Get More Space After Deleting Winclone Backup?

Nov 19, 2009

I recently deleted a Winclone backup on my Macintosh HD partition. It says I have 34.69 GB when I really should have 74.78. 40.09 GB difference.

My Partition Capacities:
Macintosh HD - 168.88 GB
Windows 7 - 54.43 GB
Backups - 26 GB
Applications Folder Size - 12.69 GB
My User Folder - 67.65 GB (Don't judge me. =D)
System Folder - 4.63 GB
Library Folder - 9.13
[The total of those is 94.1]
Then that should leave me with 74.78

See the problem? I've tried restarting the computer, but that didn't help.

Applications :: Freeing Up Space By Deleting Music From Time Machine?

Apr 24, 2009

I just got an external hard drive because I have thousands of songs that my macbook cannot hold.

I am using Time Machine to put everything on my external but I was wondering....if I delete the music on my computer so that I just have it on my external - will Time machine delete it off my external when it automatically updates since it is no longer on my computer?

I want to download more music but am scared of losing any old music.

Applications :: Deleting Old Files From The Backup And Is Rapidly Consuming Space On The NAS?

Aug 22, 2010

I've recently switched to a MBP after years using Windows/Linux.

Time Machine sounded ideal but seems to have issues with FileVault (if I wasn't on the same network as the NAS the logout process took >15 minutes, presumably whilst it looked for it).

I'm currently using the bundled Memeo Backup software. It works okay except it doesn't have any way to delete old files from the backup and is rapidly consuming space on the NAS.

Intel Mac :: HD Space Disappearing And Missing 100 GB Of Hard Disk Space?

Mar 21, 2012

Can anyone explain to me why, on my iMac's 500GB hard drive, the displayed size of the only 4 items on it is 207GB, that the info box on the HD itself says 393GB used?  Unless I failed grade 1 math, 500GB - 207GB = 293GB, right?  So where's the missing ~100GB?  That's a lot of space I know I haven't filled up.

Software :: Deleting Computer To Computer Network?

Nov 19, 2008

I accidentally set up a computer to computer network and I cannot figure out how to make it go away. I also tried to password protect it, to at least lock it down, but the password is removed from the network as soon as someone logs on (and doesn't require a password to do so). Something is fishy, to say to least. I was told to go into my preferences (through Library) but I don't know what to make of the omnioutliner files. How do I get rid of this network?

Software ::logo Was Missing After Deleting Dash Board?

Sep 5, 2009

I have an imac. The other day I was out of town and a someone was house sitting for me and decided to use my imac. This person became irritated with the dashboard app appearing on the screen every time they moved their mouse to the lower corners, so they decided to try and delete the dashboard app from the dock. They succeeded in removing from the dock, but later when they tried to put it back something went wrong. The person who was using the imac only speaks and reads spanish and since everything on my imac is in english they had no idea what they were clicking on. So now dashboard is no longer on my dock, and when I looked for it in applications I found that it's logo was missing and had been replaced with a circle with a line through it like a no smoking sign, and when I click on that I get this message, "You can't open the application "Dashboard" because it is not supported on this architecture." What happened... where is the dashboard app?

-Thanks

OS X :: Deleting Items From Memory Stick (to Free Up Space)

Dec 27, 2010

If I delete a file from a memory stick- it does not free space. This is because the item has been moved to the trash and it hasn't been permanently deleted. If I want to free the space I need to empty my trash. If I don't want to empty my trash how can I delete a file from a memory stick to free space (permanently delete just 1 file)? Also (sort of linked) - how do I just delete 1 file from trash (empty just 1 file)? The reason I like to keep trash for a while just incase I need to restore a file, if I know I will not need to restore it, then I want to permanently delete just that file.

OS X :: Deleting Files Frees Up Space In Time Machine?

May 6, 2009

Last week I was doing some late night backing up of some DVD's I own. (7x7GB).

I MTR'd them to get the video_TS folders on my desk top, so I could toast them back on to DVDs,

I tought I may as well put them on to my iPhone, so I re-encoded them into MP4 (7x500MB), then copied them into iTunes (again 7x500MB).

I reaslied today that I forgot to turn off Time-machine when I was doing all this and my backup grew by 60 GB!!

MY QUESTION IS:

If I go into Time-machine and track down these video files and "deleate all instances" of them, will it free up the 60 GB on my external drive for Time-machine to be able to back upu more vital stuff?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Deleting Files Does Not Free Up Space On Hard Disk

May 14, 2012

I am deleting large amounts of files / directories with 10s of GB of disk usage from my internal hard disk. Then I empty the trash. But I don't get more free space on my hard disk! I am not using File Vault.(I also believe that my file system is not corrupt.) This is quite annoying, since I am still unable to copy stuff on my internal hard disk, but given the amount of files I have just deleted, I should be able to do so.

ITunes :: Deleting .ipa Files To Save Hard Drive Space?

May 17, 2012

I need to free up room on my hard drive. I would like to delete all my .ipa apps. Can I do that?  I have itunes match, and I also sync to icloud. I know when I want to reinstall an app I just do that through the cloud. I have deleted apps to test that this is ok but the apps end up getting reinstalled. Here is what I want to do:

1. delete all my .ipa files on my computer to save a lot of hard drive space (I have a lot of apps....)

2. stop syncing to my computer, and only sync to icloud

3. rely on itunes match for backing up music

4. have calendar and contacts sync through icloud

5. if I need to reinstall apps do that through the tab on the app store for 'purchases.'

OS X :: HDD Space Missing After Reformatting Drive

May 3, 2010

I have a 24" 2.66Ghz 4GB RAM iMac with 640GBs of internal HDD space, and a 2TB external drive I use to store stuff. About a month ago I tried partitioning the drive during an ubuntu install, and it messed the [external] drive up. I have had some more problems caused by the install (OS X didn't boot, didn't show up when restarting+alt etc.), so I had backed up my entire internal drive to my 2TB external one, and re-formatted my HDD.

Everything went back to normal, till I noticed I have ~600GBs missing from my 2TB drive. I tried iPartition and it shows that I have 20KBs or something like that that are used by the filesystem, and no other partitions (so my drive has one partition and everything's supposed to be there). I'll provide you with a DW log shortly. What can I do to get my 600GBs back?

Windows On Mac :: Getting Hard Drive Space Back - After Deleting Boot Camp Partition

I recently got rid of a partition I had made for bootcamp since I never use it, and would rather have the space back. I deleted the partition through disc utility, and then through the partition tab, tried to get back that space by dragging down the tab to restore the space originally set for the partition. When I go to apply this change, it notifies that my hard drive will be re-sized. I accept and then a few minutes later it comes back with the error "Partition failed with the error: Filesystem verify or repair failed" Does anybody know how I can restore this space successfully back into my main hard drive? OS X V10.7 Lion :: Missing Disk Space And No Usb Startup

May 16, 2012

I have a white macBook (10.7.3, 250g HD) which has begun to behave in an odd way and which I have so far failed to resolve.

First I got a message saying very little disk space left - only 420MB which is strange because I knew the HD to be far from full. The beach ball gave me very little access to the Finder but I was eventually able to empty safari cache which gave me 6Gb.

Checking the root disk folder sizes showed that only 130gb was listed in the various folders but the status bar showed that only 6gb out of 250gb was available. I tried to start up from an external USB disk (no Firewire on this machine, sadly) but the laptop refused to starup from it - tried cable in both USB ports, disk is GUID formatted. I shut down the computer - had to force shutdown with power key as unresponsive to Finder command.

On restarting I got a message about forced shutdown etc but status bar now says 40gb available (when there should be over 100gb). I was able to select external USB drive in Startup preferences but machine will not startup ffrom external drive.

Disk Utility reports no problems with internal drive. I want to use Disk Warrior but cannot find cd, hence attempt to startup from external drive. Cannot even check disk while running DW from internal disk as it says prefs file corrupted or write protected. Trashing it (as suggested) makes no difference as new prefs file still unusable.

I have a TM backup but don't really want to use it if it is likely to have the same corruption. Also, why is the USB disk not starting up the Machine? Only thing I can think of is to do an archive/install of Lion, but is the bloating in the system or are ther some hidden files somewhere which won't be changed?
