Applications :: IMovie Crashing On Launch - How To Repair
Apr 5, 2009
Recently I deleted all of my iMovie Events (Events NOT Projects) Because it was using about 80GB+ of my HDD space. I deleted these from the finder, not from within iMovie.
Now whenever I launch iMovie it will try to load the events, nothing happens, then searches for iPhoto movies, then in the video preview window I see an image saying Source Missing.

I'm using 10.4.11 on a PB 12" and recently updated to iTunes 8.1. Ever since, iTunes will attempt to launch, getting past the "loading music library" prompt but then crashing immediately following. I've reinstalled the program, and also updated quicktime, but no avail. I can post a crash report, but here are the things that stick out to me:
Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x6c6f6c00
Thread 0 crashed with PPC Thread State 64

So I just got iLife 08 and I am upgrading from, I guess it's 06 (came on my mbp c2d) -anyway, I upgraded iweb, imovie and iphoto -
iphoto and iweb seem to have upgraded and it seems imovie did too BUT when I try and open imovie it keeps crashing...
I looked in the applications folder and see it made a "previous imovie" folder with my old one...
i try and open imovie 08 and it opens for a second, seems to try and load and shuts off...

I made a short movie in iMovie 09. Into the project I imported a song from my iTunes. Then I wanted to fade the music because it lasted longer than the video. So I clicked on the little gear that brings up the clip trimmer. But rather than bring up the clip trimmer the software crashes. Again and again and again.

Anyone know if this is known problem? I have loads of my video imported directly into iPhoto (I have compact camera which takes photos and video). When in iMovie I click on 'iphoto Videos' in the 'event library pane' and after a lot of thinking iMovie crashes!

I am running Safari 5.1.7, Mac OS 10.7.4 on an iMac Intel Core 2 Duo machine, and Safari was working fine until this morning when Safari starting crashing whenever it is launched; I have the same set up on a Macbook Pro and Safari is working fine. Â
Having read a few posts i have changed the setting for Safari to 32 bit mode which has enable me to launch it, however as this is a 64bit machine that was working fine until this morning that does not really seem like a solution more like a temp fixÂ

This seems really odd, I came back to my MBA and noticed all my apps had crashed. Now I cannot open a single 3rd party application, they either don't open or crash at launch.
Any ideas? I rebooted, repaired permissions but nothing I open that isn't made by apple works.

I have a new macbook pro 15.5 and had it for 3 months after which the hard drive crashed. There goes the illusion that nothing ever happens wrong with apple... especially my first one which I treated like a baby. So it was taken into a support center, they cloned my hard drive and ordered a new one... 22 days later I get my mac back and everything seems in order. Except when I run Disk Utility it keeps crashing. Funny enough when I run it from Recovery mode from boot its fine. But when logged into the OS (Lion) it launches and starts gathering information. Then crashes and I get the submit fault dialogue..Anyway here is the log. I have run Onyx, applejack etc but the problem has not been resolved. [code]

It first started when I tried to add music files to iTunes by draggin them into my library. It began processing and adding them to my library, but then crashed. After this, I tried reopening iTunes, and it crashes on launch. This now happens every time. I can't open my iTunes.
I've tried deleting the added files out of my iTunes folder, and I'm still getting crashing.I've even tried re-installing iTunes -- no luck

I am using Leopard version 10.5.5 on a Mac Pro and Mail keeps crashing when trying to sync accounts.
I have two MobileMe accounts that sync with the account, and it always crashes while doing a search for new mail.
It was working fine this morning, I then turned my computer off to go to work, the only difference now is that I started my computer up with my iPhone connected. At first I thought that may have been the problem, so I restarted without it.
Now for the actual question; If I can't resolve it, does anyone think that deleting the Preferences file will fix it.

I have a w7 dual-booted early 2010 macbook pro, and it has been exhibiting some really strange behavior for a while now. Basically, it crashes randomly. It doesn't give me the bluescreen in either mac or windows when this happens, it simply turns black, locks up, and often makes unpleasant sounds (anything from a clicking like a harddrive to bizzare sounding sound loops if I have been playing music). The weird thing is is that it doesn't seem to have a trigger. It can happen when I'm playing games, when I'm listening to music, or even when I have absolutely nothing running but Microsoft Word. It doesn't seem to have any dependancy on how long I have been using the computer, or even what time of day it is. It started out relatively infrequent--maybe once a month? But now it happens once a day, if not more.Â
I have still under my applecare agreement, and so I went ahead and sent it in to apple. They only had it for 24 hours before the sent it back with brand new memory... but this (maybe obviously?) didn't the problem at all--it crashed withen an hour of using it. I called apple back, and they said because sometimes it won't crash for many hours, they recommended I send it to an authorized repaire shop. I took it to the shop, and they wouldn't even look at it after I described my problem because, they said, "for problems like these, we never find solutions."Â
So now I'm stuck with a great laptop that runs BEAUTIFULLY.... except when it crashes. It's even still under applecare, but no one seems willing or capable of fixing it.Â
Does anyone have an advice? If apple can't find the problem, do I have grounds to ask for them to replace the whole MOBO, or even the whole computer? It's kind of a frustrating situation, because I bought applecare for this exact reason, but it doesn't seem to be doing me any good!Â

Recently, in the middle of working with applications in iPhoto09 they simply crash. I get a message stating no harm was done but it's getting annoying as it's happening more often than not. I am new to mac, have had it now for maybe two weeks, but wouldnt expect apps to crash this often. Any thoughts?

I have a very old purple iMac, circa 2000, with an old version of iMovie. I copied the files onto a USB and tried to open/import them onto my new Intel Core 2 Duo, 3.06 GHz iMac. However my new iMac with iMovie '09 won't recognise the files when I try to import them. They stay greyed, not allowing me to import them.

I have a project file that was created using iMovie 5 HD. In this project file were a large number of unused clips and also the final film, edited with transitions, backing music, end credits, etc.
However when I import this project file into iMovie 8 I cannot find the final edited film anywhere, just all the clips that were both used and unused within the project file.
How can I get the final film back without spending about a week re-editing everything?

So i've recently gotten in the uploading to YouTube craze with my Flip Mino HD but i'm not too happy at the way i've been doing this and am hoping there is an easier way.
As of late i've been importing what i film into iMovie. In iMovie i'll edit the video to my liking. In iMovie i'll "export" to the media browser so it'll show up in GarageBand. Then i'll open GarageBand and edit my film further, dealing with sound; adding music. After that i'll export it as a .MOV to my desktop. Then i'll open iMovie again and import that .MOV file and from there in iMovie will have it upload to YouTube in its original HD format.

So, I have all of my imovie projects backed up on my external harddrive, as well as the imovie program. I accidentally deleted all of the imovie projects and events from the imovie application on my laptop. When I try to re-import the imovie files into imovie, it doesn't recognize the files. I have tried to convert them with iSkySoft Video Converter. That converter program does not recognize the files either. I also tried burning the files onto a disc and then pulling them off the disc with the Handbrake program. This doesn't work either. I also tried importing the files into iMovie HD, which I have on my desktop, but to no avail. Are these files alll useless now? I'm at my wits end because I have spent literally months compiling footage for a documentary.

Whenever I see various Mac tutorials, tips, or suggestions, I usually see people launch applications by going to the folder (e.g. Applications --> Utilities --> Terminal). I've always been perplexed by this, because I have always launched my applications using Spotlight, and find that I can launch applications much more quickly this way (less than a second).
My question is: how do you usually launch applications?
Edit: and I see that I've forgotten to include Dock. I suppose that can go under Other.

I'm running OSX 10.4.11 with a 2 GHz Intel Cor 2 Duo and 2 GB of RAM.
When I try to load some applications (specifically CoRD and ImageResizer) they just briefly appear in the dock and then disappear, failing to open. These programs were not recently installed.
I've restarted, uninstalled/reinstalled the programs, verified/repaired permissions, verified/repaired the disk, re-updated the combo patch, run in a newly created account, cleared the cache, and deleted the preferences. With all of this, the programs are still failing to launch. Why? How can I get them to open? It's not OS threatening, but quite annoying.
