My daughter is bilingual and somehow switched Mail to spell check in Spanish. But now she cannot figure out how to change it back to select the English dictionary.
Leopard is easy (there you can control-click the spellchecked redlined word for a contextual menu with dictionary management on it).
But Mail v2.3.3, on Tiger at least, does not work the same way.
Just started using Pages for Word Processing, so far I am more impressed with it than I thought and have started using it more than NeoOffice but one gripe is the spellchecker. I can't find any way to change the dictionary from 'American English' to well.. 'English English'!
I've changed every possible OS setting I can find to UK English but it still claiming that words like 'colour' is spelled wrong!?
Anyone know how to switch this over?
I've got a series of technical dictionaries/glossaries in plain text that until now I've opened in TextEdit and searched through, but it would be very useful if I could "roll" these into a new dictionary that I could load into Dictionary.app.

So I can't fill billing information to buy Abbyy Lingvo Dictionaries (and any other things, that I would like to buy) for my iPad2. I wrote to Apple about this issue some monthes ago, but everything stayed the same. What should I do? Throw iPad away, buy Android device and use it (and never buy Apple products anymore)? Or some other way exists?

I am trying to switch my email program from Thunderbird to the mac email program Mail.Thunderbird has been playing up a lot recently and am tired of the glitches.
I have all the correct server settings etc and succesfully imported my mailboxes. The problem is that when I send an email it isn't from the right email address?? Is this a Mail problem or smth to do with my settings? I'm with Virgin media and have a separate set of email address through my website for my business so my email address are through freeola that I am using through Thunderbird.I'm sorry if this all sounds very stupid but I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out where I have gone wrong!
I inadvertently switch to classic mail viewing while wiping off mouse but can't figure out how to switch back to LION OSX way of seeing mail.

After a system crash, I can only write in German although the language for Mail is selected as English using Language Switcher. After some time, Mail opens in German again, and the language displayed in Language Switcher is Arabic.
On all my other machines, Mail behaves as ever. Mavericks is being operated in German, Mail in English. Some of the language settings must have been changed.
It seems that my new MacBook Pro is finally on its way so I am preparing for the switch from XP to OS. I am pretty much set but still have some questions which I couldn?t find an answer for yet. On Windows I always had my System Volume which I tried not to touch at all and then had another partition with all my data to be able to reinstall Windows without having to backup all my data. How does that work on a Mac? Do I need to reinstall Mac OS at least once a year as well because it has become terribly slow? Any other reasons why I should have different partitions?2.Partitions II: I am going to keep a copy of XP running on my Mac as well. I?d like to install it via BootCamp and then use it either with BootCamp or with Parallels or VMWare (prolly the former). Do I have to define the Windows partition beforehand? Sometimes restarting is not enough: you need to power off your Mac, wait for a little, and power it on again.It could be a script which act like the "schedule" program in system preferences: it would switch off the Mac immediately, the add 1 minute to the current time and switch it on again.

Perhaps this has been answered before but nothing turned up in my search. I'm a Mac convert switching from MS XP, where I was using Word 2007. Over time, I compiled several special dictionaries. If I switch to Office 2008 for Mac will I be able to transfer these from Word 2007?
I understand that Word for Mac does not ahve VBA support, therefore no macros like in Word 2007. Does office 2008 (Word) have some sort of macro capability.
Basically, pressing CMD+TAB or the 4 finger swipes will bring up the switch applications bar, and I'll switch apps. Say I'm flicking between iTunes and Safari, sometimes Safari will just disappear from the switch applications list and I end up selecting Finder instead.
Other times, the switch applications list just doesn't appear, but it still switches applications (i.e. it doesn't appear but if I press CMD+TAB twice, it'll switch to whatever application is third in the list).
I use CMD+TAB (4 finger swipes) all the time to switch between two active applications. If I'm working in Final Cut, I'll switch between FCP and a PDF file that has the sequence I'm working on outlined. Now, when I flick between the two, I end up switching to the wrong application etc.
This only happens if you are switching quickly. Press CMD+TAB and then press it again a couple of seconds later and you'll experience it too.
what I want to do is just switch between speakers (AirTunes, Apple TV and my Mac) without having to click on the speakers drop-box and select one.

1) In Firefox, I can simply add a Bookmark or a Folder directly under the URL box (image below). How do I achieve this in Safari 4.0.3?
2) How can I view the CSS code of a Website that I'm currently viewing?
I have updated to Lion, and now every time i turn on the Mac, applications open without be requested.Can this be stopped? Also updates keep failing because it says applications are open when they are not? Not liking Lion!

- Some embedded videos don't play at all
- I get error messages before and after some embedded videos
- Flip 4 Mac doesn't work properly (buttons disappear - so frustrating!)
- Really slow start up (compared to other browsers)
I have none of these issues when I visit the exact same websites using Safari. Now, I have a few reasons why I'm hesitant to switch:
- Add-ons (Foxmarks, Ad-Block, Customize Google, WOT, etc.)
- Custom Search Bars (top right)
- Ease, simplicity, and control
With that said, are there any equivalent Add-Ons for Safari (I know there is an Ad-Block one)? What about custom search bars? And finally, is there a way to view pdf files in Safari without having to download the file first?
When I moved from Windows to MacOS, I tried to find MacOS applications to replace the ones I used on Windows (just like everybody). The more I tried, the more I found out that I should go for apps designed specifically for the MacOS, as they were more streamlined than the ones made for Windows and then converted to the MacOS.
Anyway, I found out some truly useful MacOS apps and which have great functionality. Some of these apps have features which are not shared by any Windows apps (or at least it seems to me).
If I were to go back to Windows (just to make it clear: I'm not), would I be able to replace the MacOS apps I use with Windows apps with the same or similar functionality? I'd like to make this a kind of game in order to find out which MacOS apps are non-replaceable killer apps.r own apps to the list.
So, back in the day (last week actually) I always had my iTunes in "mini player mode" on the right hand side on the bottom of my screen, just above the trash bin. When I needed to select a song or a different playlist, I would click the green button, apply my settings, and click the green button again and go back on about my business. However, with iTunes 9, you have to hold the option key to switch to the mini player. I am severly bothered by this, is there any way to hack iTunes with the terminal fix this? I liked it the old way. Who's with me? Also, when iTunes is not the active window, and you switch to mini, the active screen is automatically hidden (like when you push Cmd+H)
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've observed that since its launch, Google's Chrome browser seems have quickly reached Safari's overall quality and become equal, if not possibly even better, than Safari.
So it's made me think� could Apple simplify things by making a deal with Google to simply adopt Chrome as their default browser on Macs and iDevices?
The browsers are equal at their core - both running on the engine Apple essentially brought into being (Webkit.) And Apple could work with Google to implement their custom features (Top sites, cover flow) into Chrome.
But ultimately it seems to me it's a bit of a wasted resource to have both companies developing what are almost identical products. And it seems that Google treat their browser as more of a priority � so would it be better to just leave the browser side of things to Google?
Since swiping with four fingers on my macbook is perfect and fast for me when using expose� and I really don't find any other way to change between my pages, i wanna know if there's any way to change the magic mouse so that it does expos� when I swipe with two fingers or something like that, and if it doesn't ( ) how so you do you change between your pages with the maginc mouse?

I checked google, I searched this forum for Caret, but nowhere on the internet, I can find a way to go back to 'normal' browsing. Does anybody know how to switch back?

Being in Marketing and doing lots of presentations, one tool my team and I use extensively is called SnagIt.While it is called a screen capture tool, its real strength is the image manipulation tools are really simple and good. Many times we don't need to use Photoshop so the team uses SnagIt to capture the image, manipulate it like 3d, borders, twisting etc.
