View 1 RepliesI've been using Firefox for several years now, but I'm planning on switching to Safari because it's so much faster. But there are two annoying things that are preventing me from doing so:
1) In Firefox, I can simply add a Bookmark or a Folder directly under the URL box (image below). How do I achieve this in Safari 4.0.3?
2) How can I view the CSS code of a Website that I'm currently viewing?
Here are the issues that I'm having with firefox:
- Some embedded videos don't play at all
- I get error messages before and after some embedded videos
- Flip 4 Mac doesn't work properly (buttons disappear - so frustrating!)
- Really slow start up (compared to other browsers)
I have none of these issues when I visit the exact same websites using Safari. Now, I have a few reasons why I'm hesitant to switch:
- Add-ons (Foxmarks, Ad-Block, Customize Google, WOT, etc.)
- Custom Search Bars (top right)
- Ease, simplicity, and control
With that said, are there any equivalent Add-Ons for Safari (I know there is an Ad-Block one)? What about custom search bars? And finally, is there a way to view pdf files in Safari without having to download the file first?
when i click on a pdf in firefox, it opens it in preview, but i also find the file in my downloads. i like how the pdf opens in a separate preview window, but it's a hassle to have to keep deleting the file from downloads after i view it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn my old laptop (Mac OS 10.6.8) I could see the preview panel on top of the Mail. Now I can not find a way to move it from the left hand side. Now on Mac OS 10.9 I have Mail 7.3 and there does not seem to have an option on where to put it.

I am trying to print a picture in a PDF. When I scale it in Preview or Firefox, it looks correct. When I hit print it's either bigger or smaller than the picture on screen. When I try to print from Preview, it resizes it, instead of just leaving it the original size and dumping it on the page somewhere. Basically, I have a picture that my niece drew for me. I am going to make it the image that goes on the front of a Shuttle PC I'm building for my mom to replace her Mini. (long story, but another Mini for me!) Does anybody have a hint on how I can get it to print without resizing or scaling to fit the page? Another part of the problem that is probably related... In Preview, it says the picture is less than 5x3, but it's 7x5.5. If I can get Preview to understand how big it really is, maybe it will print right.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn Windows XP/Vista, if you are navigating in a folder containing pictures, and you click any picture, it opens up Windows built in preview program. Much like OSX. However, in Windows, you can click "Next/Previous" within that program to quickly flip through those photos. Why do the up & down arrows in OSX not work? I still prefer my iMac to any PC I have owned, but this one little thing bugs me to no end. Is there a setting I can change somewhere to make that work like in Windows?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOne of the features I mostly like about Little Snitch is the Alert Panel pop ups, which give me full control of what type of access is given to which applications. Here is the alert panel: I found that some users dislike it, and even some discussions were started on how to get rid of it. That's not my case today. My Little Snitch was working perfectly until I decided to upgrade my Macbook HD to a higher storage. I went to an authorized Mac store, which replaced the new HD into place and advised me to go back home and boot the MacBook with the installation disk pressing C.
Then, after installation, I chose to restore my files from the last Time Machine backup. However, after doing this it seemed that many applications including Little Snitch started to operate differently... as if I would be running them for the first time. So in addition to the automatic Time Machine restore, I went to a manual restore of applications and library items. When I tried to overwrite the files of Little Snitch on the Library folder, I was asked my Administrator password. Then after typing it, I received the message that I did not have sufficient administrator preferences................

View 13 Replies View RelatedWith all the app store teasers, recent release of iLife 11 one might have thought iWork '11 was coming soon. Alas, it does not seem to be so. At least all I see is installed next to the apps. I actually like the new MS Office, so I am not nearly as desperate as I once was for the new Apple products. But we all know Apple often has a unique spin on the common, and I still prefer Keynote to all others and would love to see that pushed to even more development possibilities. Considering the way the web works, the way Hypercard worked, and Keynote, I could imagine making keynotes that are HTML5 ready and have scripting abilities and interactive abilities like Hypercard. That would be an app that rocked, and brought some life back to the MIA web development scene for the Mac.

Did the fact that I connected to another network present any risks?
I did not send any private info during that time, any risks of getting hacked?
Sometimes restarting is not enough: you need to power off your Mac, wait for a little, and power it on again. It could be a script which act like the "schedule" program in system preferences: it would switch off the Mac immediately, the add 1 minute to the current time and switch it on again.

I've got a movie I'm exporting from FCE, just in the standard "Export to QuickTime Movie" option. The file looks fine (other than the fact that, when I watch it in QT, the aspect ratio is wrong). When I put it into iDVD and let it burn, the video just looks... weird. I'm not sure how to describe it, exactly, but it's just weird. I can't figure out what's wrong. Is it possible it's something in iDVDs conversion to MPEG-2?

Basically, pressing CMD+TAB or the 4 finger swipes will bring up the switch applications bar, and I'll switch apps. Say I'm flicking between iTunes and Safari, sometimes Safari will just disappear from the switch applications list and I end up selecting Finder instead.
Other times, the switch applications list just doesn't appear, but it still switches applications (i.e. it doesn't appear but if I press CMD+TAB twice, it'll switch to whatever application is third in the list).
I use CMD+TAB (4 finger swipes) all the time to switch between two active applications. If I'm working in Final Cut, I'll switch between FCP and a PDF file that has the sequence I'm working on outlined. Now, when I flick between the two, I end up switching to the wrong application etc.
This only happens if you are switching quickly. Press CMD+TAB and then press it again a couple of seconds later and you'll experience it too.
I tried doing several things such as flattening the images, changing the resolution, using different file formats. I tried making the images exactly 1920 by 1080 which someone mentioned was the px dimensions that imovie uses and that didn't work.
The only time the image seems clearer is when I go to show photo settings, which is weird.
These images were originally raws so I can make them whatever size is needed for imovie. I just need to know what it likes best!
I was thinking I might not be rendering them properly. I imported it into idvd and it rendered it that way. Is there another way I can do it maybe?
My daughter is bilingual and somehow switched Mail to spell check in Spanish. But now she cannot figure out how to change it back to select the English dictionary.
Leopard is easy (there you can control-click the spellchecked redlined word for a contextual menu with dictionary management on it).
But Mail v2.3.3, on Tiger at least, does not work the same way.
what I want to do is just switch between speakers (AirTunes, Apple TV and my Mac) without having to click on the speakers drop-box and select one.
