In Safari 4.1.2 I acidently turned Caret browsing on. Before I could just use my arrowkeys to scroll through a page, but now I am suddenly Caret browsing. I checked google, I searched this forum for Caret, but nowhere on the internet, I can find a way to go back to 'normal' browsing. Does anybody know how to switch back?

You move the mouse over to the scroll bar, favorites bar, minimize, etc... and the mouse is stuck in the wrong icon, be it the text pointer, hand pointer, window resize pointer... when it should be the arrow. It is such an obvious bug and I can't believe Apple hasn't noticed this.

With Safari 5 if I open a second tab and choose a bookmark folder and "Open in Tabs" the original active tab disappears. I can get back to the original tab if I go back in the history and thus closing the tabs from the bookmark folder. So my question is there anyway to keep my current tab while still loading all the bookmarks in that folder in tabs?

When I moved from Windows to MacOS, I tried to find MacOS applications to replace the ones I used on Windows (just like everybody). The more I tried, the more I found out that I should go for apps designed specifically for the MacOS, as they were more streamlined than the ones made for Windows and then converted to the MacOS.
Anyway, I found out some truly useful MacOS apps and which have great functionality. Some of these apps have features which are not shared by any Windows apps (or at least it seems to me).
If I were to go back to Windows (just to make it clear: I'm not), would I be able to replace the MacOS apps I use with Windows apps with the same or similar functionality? I'd like to make this a kind of game in order to find out which MacOS apps are non-replaceable killer apps.r own apps to the list.
I have been using Safari faithfully since it was released, and in the last week it has developed a strange problem. I can't recall doing anything different that would have caused this problem, but now whenever I try to load a secure website (https), I get the error message "Safari could not load the page https:xxxx because it could not connect to the server." I have tried resetting Safari, but that didn't fix the problem. I have also thrown away the following files (Safari_1.2.pkg, Safari (folder), Safari (application), and com.apple.Safari.plist) and reinstalling a new version of Safari, also without success. I should add that Internet Explorer will always load the pages that choke Safari, but I hate using this program. Has anyone ever heard of this before, and does anyone know how to fix it? I want to disable private browsing in Safari 4. I already managed to do it in Safari 3 following Mac Guide instructions (http://guides.macrumors.com/Safari#D...ivate_Browsing).
Now I want to do the same in Safari 4. I also downloaded the newest XCode. However, again following the above mentioned instructions I only get an error message saying that it can't open "nibs".
I'd appreciate any help!

I have a browsing habit that is incompatible with marriage and having Private Browsing available is a very big temptation. I was able to remove Private Browsing from Safari 3 but am unable to find out how to remove it from version 4. I have Snow Leopard and have installed Xcode Tools. It seems that most of the browsers are starting to add Private Browsing to their software.

I tried xcode, but after downleading a Safari 4.0.5 I can't use it anymore, look: Xcode doesn't work with Firefox either and I don't know what to do.

Similar to the functionality that FireFox has where you can clean up automatically after your session using "Clear Private Data." In FireFox there is a preference for it but I didn't see anything like that in Safari - leading me to believe there might be a hack or add-on that will do it.

The other day I unchecked that option, closed safari, relaunched it, rechecked it, played a little with ticking that box and eventually the message was gone. But not this time Has anyone found an automatic procedure to make this message go away?
I've been using Firefox for several years now, but I'm planning on switching to Safari because it's so much faster. But there are two annoying things that are preventing me from doing so:
1) In Firefox, I can simply add a Bookmark or a Folder directly under the URL box (image below). How do I achieve this in Safari 4.0.3?
2) How can I view the CSS code of a Website that I'm currently viewing?
Here are the issues that I'm having with firefox:
- Some embedded videos don't play at all
- I get error messages before and after some embedded videos
- Flip 4 Mac doesn't work properly (buttons disappear - so frustrating!)
- Really slow start up (compared to other browsers)
I have none of these issues when I visit the exact same websites using Safari. Now, I have a few reasons why I'm hesitant to switch:
- Add-ons (Foxmarks, Ad-Block, Customize Google, WOT, etc.)
- Custom Search Bars (top right)
- Ease, simplicity, and control
With that said, are there any equivalent Add-Ons for Safari (I know there is an Ad-Block one)? What about custom search bars? And finally, is there a way to view pdf files in Safari without having to download the file first?
I'm a multitasker, like many others out there. When I surf I like having many tabs open in my browser. My browser of choice is Firefox due to one single reason: Firefox allows quick switching between tabs using CMD + # (nr.). If I want to jump to the fifth tab in Firefox I simply press CMD + 5.
In Safari this key combination opens the fifth bookmark in my bookmark bar.
Question:
Is there a way to "quick switch" between tabs in Safari other than CMD + SHIFT + ARROW LEFT/RIGHT (which gets stuck in text field etc.)?
Safari is otherwise quicker than Firefox on my Mac, so the decision to only run Safari would be obvious if it wasn't for this small thing.
Does anyone have a good solution out there?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have a problem browsing with safari on my macbook pro. i am able to launch safari and it loads my homepage. i can then browse from my homepage to a another page macrumors for instance. the problem occurs when i try to browse away from that page to another, macrumors to kvraudio for example. the page does not load. the blue progress bar across the address stops in the first position. safari then 'freezes' becomes unresponsive and then i have to force quit. i have never experienced a problem like this before. here are my macbook specs:

i am posting this via my old G5 with the same network config. which doesn't have this browsing problem nor does another networked iMac. can anyone recommend a course of action?
I have just recently got my first mac, moving from a windows computer.
On my previous pc on internet explorer there was an option for 'Private Browsing' which didn't leave any files or anything and the sites visited were fully untraceable.
On Safari i have noticed the same option, does this do the same (doesn't leave any cache or history or anything like that?)
I've been using the Windows 7 beta and it's incredible. No random Vista slowdowns, User Account Control works just right, and everything worked out of the box. And I love the new task bar. Since it's a new installation (on a better computer, too) it seems even faster than XP and even OS X. So now that many of you have had experience with the beta, do you think the final product will be enough to make you switch back to Windows? And if you've been a Mac user all your life, will you cross to the "dark" side?

Now that i installed windows, i cannot switch back to osx. If i didnt delete or completely remove osx, will someone please tell me how i can get back to osx. Yes, i tried to f6 it and see if i can switch back but osx isnt even listed on there. So my question again, did i completely remove osx?

In Safari 5, cookies from private browsing session aren't being erased after closing the private browsing session. The private session pages don't appear in the history, so that much works; I have no idea if the cache is being emptied. Is anyone else having this problem? I've uninstalled the add-ons I had (ClickToFlash, Glims) and turned off the new Safari Extensions, so I'm ruling them out as the problem.

It appears as though there may be some suspicious activity occurring on the family computer. Firstly, "private browsing", "reset safari" and "empty cache" all appear under the edit menu in safari. I don't recall having seen them earlier, does this mean they have been recently used or is it part of the standard menu? Also, in the internet history whilst no webpages can be found there are some obscene jpegs. Images found in the internet history, have they been deliberately viewed or is it possible that they find their way there behind the scenes?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble figuring out how the Safari tab preferences work with shortcuts to websites I have placed in my dock. I have "Open pages in tabs instead of windows" set to "Never," and I have checked "Command-click opens a link in a new tab." This works fine when I am clicking on a link in a website, but when I press command and click on the shortcut in my dock, the link always opens in a new window and not a new tab. Do these preferences apply to an outside link shortcut or just when you are clicking from within a website?

I installed Windows on Boot Camp, but the Application Install DVD is blank. To replace the DVD I have to drive 2-3 hours to an apple store or apple will send me one for $17. Is there a way I can get back to the Mac and delete the Boot Camp partition? The tool in control panel is not there because I could not use the Application istall DVD.

quite often, when I'm looking at a web page or something on the internet, the page doesn't load. It will get the first part of a bar in Safari but it will stay there for minutes and then go to one of those white screens.
