Apr 14, 2009As the title says, I just can't get Preview.app to print a 33 page PDF using 2 pages per sheet in the correct order. It will print two pages per sheet of paper, but page 1 will come on the right, 2 on the left, 3 on the right, etc. I tried every possible combination in the "Layout" menu to no avail.

Apr 17, 2012I am having issues printing documents I am viewing in Preview.When I press (command P) the File button highlights briefly, but then the print screen does not come up.However, on occasion, it has worked.I have all software up to date and have tried restarting the computer and closing all software.Every other program prints just fine, (for instance, in mail, I can press Command P and it will bring up the print screen as usual).

Aug 30, 2014I have updated my system to OS X Maverick and have lost the ability to "print preview" my files before saving. I frequently save files as jpeg files, as well as pdf. I have found that many of our flyers print better when saved as a jpeg but since the print preview option has been eliminated, I cannot save anything as a jpeg.

Jun 21, 2014I'm basically trying to make a "save as" version of a project so I can change what I have without risk of losing everything I've done. But every time I save a new version of the project (and even rename it, store it on another drive, etc.), the changes I make to the new version are also made to the original.I'm also not getting the popup "duplicate project" window (which should give me a choice of where and how to save the project) I'm supposed to get when I click on "Duplicate Project." How can I simply save a fixed version of my project?

Nov 16, 2007I've been disappointed that the preview in the Leopard print dialog does not update if you select to have multiple pages per sheet. I often do this to conserve paper when I'm printing lecture notes. With Leopard, I'm often doing this blind and get things out of order. Has anyone got this to work? I seem to think that one of programs--either preview or Acrobat--provided this functionality in Tiger.

"Preview" is opening the file, and i can view it on screen, but when trying to print it, i am asked to enter a password.Other programs (Adobe reader, Foxit PDF, etc) are opening and printing it without any password prompts.Is there anything that can be done with it? Feb 29, 2012i am constantly having a problem when i try and print a smallish image with Preview /automatically/ checking the Scale to Fit Paper Size and when i /uncheck/ this by clicking in the "Scale" radio button it /automatically/ enters the percent scale factor that would be required if I wanted to scale to fit to paper (e.g. 184%). Since I /don't/ want this scale (I already unchecked this option) I MANUALLY enter "100" in this box and - well - it prints out scale to fit to paper size /anyway/. i am using the Print Selected Image but the Print option behaves in the same way. Also, Auto Rotate (which defaults to AutoRotate with no option - "bad Preview, bad") has no effect on this. i have taken to pulling down to four or nine images to a page in order to get my images printed smaller, even though they never print out at 100%.

Dec 1, 2014Running 10.10 and I'm getting all blank pages when I print through the system or say Preview. Brother MFC-4710, upgraded firmware and downloaded new drivers. What is weird though is if I open a PDF from Chrome and printer directly from Chrome, it prints fine.
I've tried it on two laptops and both have the problem.

Jun 17, 2014Below is the error message I have been getting when trying to print a pdf from preview. This happens every time. I never had this issue before upgrading to 10.9.3.
I attempted deleting from my library:
com.apple.preview
come.apple.preview.lssharedfilelist.plist
com.apple.preview.savedstate
I didn't delete permanently but they are in my trash bin and this has not worked. It definitely seems like there is some compatability issue from my old operating system occurring here but im not sure how to fix this.

Software :: Create Marginal Notes And Anchored Notes?
Sep 14, 2007can anyone suggest an mac os x app (or mac os x-supported software like OpenOffice et cet.) that will allow me to create marginal or anchored notes in a text document?
i am not interested in MS WORD, not out of any ideological dislike of gates or ms word, et cet. (although i do not like word), but i am tired of paying steep prices for it and upgrades and wish a simpler program for someone who writes, period. i do not need 90% of word's features (although it, and openoffice alternative, does have the "insert note" on reviewing toolbar i like - see below)
if anyone is familiar with what is called "critical apparatus", it would allow me to add what are essentially footnotes in a visible (Jer's Novel Writer) or invisible (WORD and OpenOffice) notes to the text. (btw: here is what i mean: [URL] and click on screenshot at bottom right of screen)
such a feature would be immensely helpful for some translation projects i am doing as well "to check" reminders within creative projects, from essays to novels.
i may be wrong but i don't think bookmarks are what i want and i prefer to avoid footnotes or endnotes (yes - i am selfish. i want it all) although a footnote is not so terrible a work-around.
i have looked at following options in respective apps:
postit/stickies type note - openoffice has a WORD type feature (like the critical apparatus popup window in url above) which is accessible but i would love to have a smaller simpler program to do this
marginal notes - i love Jer's Novel Writer for this but if you write a long note or lots of notes anchored to the same small stretch of text, these marginal notes become cumbersome and piled on top of each other in the margin, unless there is a way to do this i am doing wrong. (am open to suggestions how to use JNW better. i have not written to Jer - maybe i'll do this)
flags: supernotecard has flags but limits them to one per card where a card is funtionally synonomous with a paragraph. thus one can not annotate multiple words in same paragraph with individual markers
links: i am using DEVONthink more and more as a word processor with its multiple windows, database/search/concordance capabilities and extremely rewarding flexibility. i could use their links to separate windows but don't like this as much.similarly voodoopad does this well but same objection
separate windows: many programs facilitate a new window that could hold my notes. they are not anchored or easily tied to the text in question without altering the text, e.g., DEVONthink, Smultron, et cet.
i think i have looked at almost everything, i think, e.g., supernotecard, notemind, nova mind, tinderbox, notetaker (which i love), ulysses, avenir, z-writer, scrivener, smultron, textwrangler, subethaedit, mi, copywrite, bean, textmate (a great "project format" for composite documents like journal or book with chapters), mellel, mariner, JNW (which i also love), nisus, tex-edit plus, all the omnigroup apps, journler, storyist, writeroom, abiword, but may have missed something. programs like curio (which i like, along with omnigrapple pro) and mindburn are not really what i need either.
i guess if i knew enough i could write an applescript within some of these programs. but i am not very facile with scripting and do not want to take the time to become so. i do not think TeX et al. are the way to go and the same comment about time versus learning curve applies.
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Print Window Doesn't Show Preview Button Anymore
Feb 15, 2012This button allowed (in Snow Leopard and even in Tiger) to see the final page full size, or even to save as a PDF file. This functionality is sadly missing on my computer since I have upgraded to LION, making me regret the move. Is there some pref somewhere that I should adjust, or just plainly forget about it. ? When I print, the dialog window does NOT show the Preview button anymore.
I am on a MacBook Pro 17".

May 10, 2009In Windows XP/Vista, if you are navigating in a folder containing pictures, and you click any picture, it opens up Windows built in preview program. Much like OSX. However, in Windows, you can click "Next/Previous" within that program to quickly flip through those photos. Why do the up & down arrows in OSX not work? I still prefer my iMac to any PC I have owned, but this one little thing bugs me to no end. Is there a setting I can change somewhere to make that work like in Windows?

Jan 14, 2009I am trying to Email a slideshow I made recently in iPhoto to another Mac user.
However, I cannot figure out if this is possible. I also tried to file transfer it to her via iChat file transfer, but no luck with this either.
Do either of these two methods (regular email or iChat file transfer) enable me to send a slideshow to someone? If not, is there any other way I can do this?
I simply find it very hard to believe that there is no way whatsoever to send someone a slideshow, especially another mac user with iPhoto.

Mar 8, 2009I have a few video files that I would like to distribute to a few people, but I would like to try and prevent casual copying. Is it possible to burn a home made DVD with DVD CCS copy protection on it without using something like Final Cut Studio?
I don't see a way to do it with iDVD or Toast 8.x. Any other suggestions? Does Toast 10 have this ability?

Mar 14, 2009Has anyone found a way to change the default of putting "Made on a Mac" on every page? I know I can delete it page by page, but that gets old. Is there a hidden preferences file that has that set to "on"? Or a CSS file in the package where that can be set to "false"? I'm going to wade in and see if I can find it, but my skills on this are a bit outdated, so if someone else has found it I would love to hear about it.

Jul 10, 2010Can anyone tell me if there is a good notes application that lets me organise notes into categories/projects/folders. I am looking for something that has both a mac and an iphone version and will sync multiple macs and iPhone over the web using mobile me for example.
I'm not looking for a task manager - I'm already using omnifocus for that and in an ideal world I am looking for something very similar to omnifocus but that is notes based rather than task based.
I'm not looking for a files/documents depository either - I use Evernote for that.
Just need simple text notes..
Edit - I have found Soho Notes which basically does what I want, (mac client, iphone client, notes in folders, mobile me sync) but I find the interface a bit cheesy with all those icons...ideally looking for something a bit more minimalist - I like the look of Mori and Mark/space Notebook but they don't have iphone versions...
Edit2 - Having looked further into Soho Notes, there seems to be a lot of complaints about the syncing and corrupt databases...I have also looked at MacJournal which is along the lines of what I'm after but again quite a lot people having problems with the sync by the sound of it so still looking...
