I�m creating an application that focus on organizing notes and projects, and syncing them between Mac, iPhone and iPad So I would like to know your opinion about what would you like to see on an application like this. Some new features you haven�t seen anywhere.
View 1 RepliesCan anyone tell me if there is a good notes application that lets me organise notes into categories/projects/folders. I am looking for something that has both a mac and an iphone version and will sync multiple macs and iPhone over the web using mobile me for example.
I'm not looking for a task manager - I'm already using omnifocus for that and in an ideal world I am looking for something very similar to omnifocus but that is notes based rather than task based.
I'm not looking for a files/documents depository either - I use Evernote for that.
Just need simple text notes..
Edit - I have found Soho Notes which basically does what I want, (mac client, iphone client, notes in folders, mobile me sync) but I find the interface a bit cheesy with all those icons...ideally looking for something a bit more minimalist - I like the look of Mori and Mark/space Notebook but they don't have iphone versions...
Edit2 - Having looked further into Soho Notes, there seems to be a lot of complaints about the syncing and corrupt databases...I have also looked at MacJournal which is along the lines of what I'm after but again quite a lot people having problems with the sync by the sound of it so still looking...
Has anyone used Circus Ponies Notebook for organizing and taking notes? I like the notebook layout, can you change the style of the notebook and color? I was using the notebook layout in Microsoft Word for MAC. Are there any other programs that are better then Circus Ponies?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out if there is any way I can do 'organizing' in the Browser. It would be great to be able to create folders I could drop the 'projects' or the 'files' into. I do have my 'Library' well organized, with Keyword collections and folders.
But.... I'm working on a large project. Every time I add a new video or audio file to a Library (each Library has only one Event - so I can keep my Libraries relatively small) it seems I have to go digging through all the previous files to find the newly imported one.

i am not interested in MS WORD, not out of any ideological dislike of gates or ms word, et cet. (although i do not like word), but i am tired of paying steep prices for it and upgrades and wish a simpler program for someone who writes, period. i do not need 90% of word's features (although it, and openoffice alternative, does have the "insert note" on reviewing toolbar i like - see below)
if anyone is familiar with what is called "critical apparatus", it would allow me to add what are essentially footnotes in a visible (Jer's Novel Writer) or invisible (WORD and OpenOffice) notes to the text. (btw: here is what i mean: [URL] and click on screenshot at bottom right of screen)
such a feature would be immensely helpful for some translation projects i am doing as well "to check" reminders within creative projects, from essays to novels.
i may be wrong but i don't think bookmarks are what i want and i prefer to avoid footnotes or endnotes (yes - i am selfish. i want it all) although a footnote is not so terrible a work-around.
i have looked at following options in respective apps:
postit/stickies type note - openoffice has a WORD type feature (like the critical apparatus popup window in url above) which is accessible but i would love to have a smaller simpler program to do this
marginal notes - i love Jer's Novel Writer for this but if you write a long note or lots of notes anchored to the same small stretch of text, these marginal notes become cumbersome and piled on top of each other in the margin, unless there is a way to do this i am doing wrong. (am open to suggestions how to use JNW better. i have not written to Jer - maybe i'll do this)
flags: supernotecard has flags but limits them to one per card where a card is funtionally synonomous with a paragraph. thus one can not annotate multiple words in same paragraph with individual markers
links: i am using DEVONthink more and more as a word processor with its multiple windows, database/search/concordance capabilities and extremely rewarding flexibility. i could use their links to separate windows but don't like this as much.similarly voodoopad does this well but same objection
separate windows: many programs facilitate a new window that could hold my notes. they are not anchored or easily tied to the text in question without altering the text, e.g., DEVONthink, Smultron, et cet.
i think i have looked at almost everything, i think, e.g., supernotecard, notemind, nova mind, tinderbox, notetaker (which i love), ulysses, avenir, z-writer, scrivener, smultron, textwrangler, subethaedit, mi, copywrite, bean, textmate (a great "project format" for composite documents like journal or book with chapters), mellel, mariner, JNW (which i also love), nisus, tex-edit plus, all the omnigroup apps, journler, storyist, writeroom, abiword, but may have missed something. programs like curio (which i like, along with omnigrapple pro) and mindburn are not really what i need either.
i guess if i knew enough i could write an applescript within some of these programs. but i am not very facile with scripting and do not want to take the time to become so. i do not think TeX et al. are the way to go and the same comment about time versus learning curve applies.
My mac took a crap and had to rebuild the os. I have all my itunes music tagged properly with embedded album covers in the mp3 files and everything.
I want to have my music in this order: artist (alphabetically) ,year (ascending 2001 to 2008 for example for each artist) and albums that have various artist with them with to stay grouped together in itunes. Even though I click make a compilation. It wont order that way. I had it last time.
For example UNKLE's war stories has various artists collaborating on the album, it stays spread apart...I want it to be listed together as one album and not spread apart. But, i want to keep the artist names.

Currently I use a combination of OmniFocus, iCal, folders, Mail. OmniFocus is great for my task lists but I'm looking for an app that would allow me to see, for each project, all the relevant source material: pdfs, docs, images, etc
I'm looking for an Mac app that can be used to store and index/tag small electronic documents (like invoices,...), hyperlinks, text,....Basically it should be able to store non-relational information that can than be tagged and searched for easy retrieval later.

I've Handbraked a few DVD movies and extras.
They are scattered in the Movie folder by the name of each video, not by movie (album) title.
How do I organise them into Album folders like Music and TV Shows are
I recently imported 10,000 photos to iphoto covering the last 12 years of my life. The only problem is that the events are not in the correct order by date. It take me hours to reorganize by date manually. Is there an option in iPhoto or a workflow that will do this automatically? (the photos are all dated, just in the wrong order)
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I've been tinkering around with Automator lately and have been having some moderate success and fun coming up with different little workflows. I have now completely stumped myself on this one. I feel like it should be relatively simple but I just can't get it to work. Here's what I am looking to do. Within the iTunes Music folder I have all my artists listed alphabetically (I have iTunes set to keep my music organized). As part of my new backup plan I would like Automator create new folders based on the letters of the alphabet and then copy the artists over that belong to each letter so that the end result on my external drive looks like this
A
-Alexisonfire
-Audioslave
B
-Band of Horses
-Beastie Boys
and so on.
I've been able to do certain things in little pieces but they have all require manual intervention, i.e. filter finder items to items that start with "a" and copy to folder "a" but I have to manually enter the filter criteria and destination criteria. Is there anyway to do this without manually creating the folders and manually selecting the filter criteria and destination folder? I did find an applescript that will create the folders for me, can I add this to the workflow?
I've a collection of various movies and tv series in DivX/XviD/H264 format. They are stored on my file-server, which runs Rivet for streaming to my Xbox 360.
So my basic setup is as follows:
[macbook] <--> [file server with rivet] <--> [xbox 360/tv]
The files on the server are all in one directory..and with a growing list, it's getting confusing/messy. Does anyone know a tool to manage (Covers, Tagging etc.) all the files with my Macbook? If not, would there be a need for something like that? My exams finish on tuesday (8.6.2010), which means I'd have some time to code on a new project.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAlright, so I have two songs by The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and With a Little Help from My Friends. If you don't already know, these songs cut into each other, so if you play With a Little Help right after Sgt. Pepper, it will sound like one song (this was intended). What my problem is is that the way that the songs are sorted (by Artist), With a Little Help from My Friends is before Sgt. Pepper, where it should be vice-versa. Is there any way I can fix this problem, without having to change the way the songs are sorted (I like them organized that way) or creating a playlist? Maybe an Applescript or application?

Currently I am using Google notebook to do this It allows me to create a header for each section such as, "Pleasantries" and "Generic Phrases and I can tag each individual entry as I like. View 3 Replies View Related my problem i that when I import CDs such as the main artist but featuring someone else, the album flow wil not be sequential, instead when i sync my iphone/ipod i end up getting artists <blank> featuring <blank>. Same goes for front row.

View 4 Replies View Relatedive been a PC user for long but recieved my macbook a cpl of days ago, and this weekend im gonna start the incredible work load of converting my Cubase SX3 projects into Logic.Since Cubase suck there is no easy way to "consolidate all tracks...", to mix down each channel to a separate track automatically. I will have to do it manually. Track by track. 50+ projects, maybe 15-20 channels in each. Anyway, that was not a question, but this is.
1. Is there any easy way to copy midi tracks from Cubase to Logic? Just the information that tells the chosen instrument how to play. Not any instrument setting, just the track information. I hope you get what im after. Maybe i should rephrase, Is there any way to copy MIDI information from Cubase to Logic?Even tho i will mix down the miditracks aswell i want to save the information in case i want to try playing it with one of Logics synthesizers instead of the instrument i used in Cubase.
Is there anyway to move the top two iMovie folders (Events and Projects) into one single folder? When I try and do it in Finder, iMovie then won't read the files.

Many students print them out and take notes on them, a system which I dislike because that wastes paper, and I like to keep my notes organized on my computer. I currently take notes using Microsoft Word's notebooks which is okay, but I end up rewriting things that are on the slides. Sorry for the long winded intro, but my question is are there any programs available that would allow for the addition of texts to the PDFs. I know how to do it with Adobe Software, but I was hoping that someone could clue me into a simpler solution for in-class note taking. Adobe's programs are all have more features than I need on a daily basis, I would like a program simpler and more streamlined.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo i take most of my notes using powerpoint... and I'd like to be able to record audio as well. The problem is that in powerpoint, the record features are horrible. You can record a presentation, but while doing so you cant edit the powerpoint document...and the audio drops out.
Any students or professionals out there who have a good solution to this?
I'd love it if i could easily just record audio for each slide, and take notes at the same times, but this seems to not be easy in powerpoint.
