Applications :: Finding App That Tells Where Your Hardware Is Made

What was that nifty little app that tells where it was made using the serial number?

I'm basically trying to make a "save as" version of a project so I can change what I have without risk of losing everything I've done. But every time I save a new version of the project (and even rename it, store it on another drive, etc.), the changes I make to the new version are also made to the original.I'm also not getting the popup "duplicate project" window (which should give me a choice of where and how to save the project) I'm supposed to get when I click on "Duplicate Project." How can I simply save a fixed version of my project?

However, I cannot figure out if this is possible. I also tried to file transfer it to her via iChat file transfer, but no luck with this either.
Do either of these two methods (regular email or iChat file transfer) enable me to send a slideshow to someone? If not, is there any other way I can do this?
I simply find it very hard to believe that there is no way whatsoever to send someone a slideshow, especially another mac user with iPhoto.
I have a few video files that I would like to distribute to a few people, but I would like to try and prevent casual copying. Is it possible to burn a home made DVD with DVD CCS copy protection on it without using something like Final Cut Studio?
I don't see a way to do it with iDVD or Toast 8.x. Any other suggestions? Does Toast 10 have this ability?
Has anyone found a way to change the default of putting "Made on a Mac" on every page? I know I can delete it page by page, but that gets old. Is there a hidden preferences file that has that set to "on"? Or a CSS file in the package where that can be set to "false"? I'm going to wade in and see if I can find it, but my skills on this are a bit outdated, so if someone else has found it I would love to hear about it.

But I am not one to back down from problem-solving...
Fine. Probably need to run OS 9.2.
So I have in my possession an old iBook. G3, 500mhz, 500MB of ram, running OS 9.2.2. Little computer works nicely. (9.2 was really ground-breaking!!!) Loads Warcraft 2 quickly as well. BUT, gives me the same error message. I've been playing around with extensions forever. I upgraded this iBook's hardware and installed a DVD/CD-RW. Could that be causing a conflict? If so, how would that be addressed? The CD-rom works though...
I'm noticing on the desktop, there are two icons when the CD is inserted. One that says WARCRAFT 2 and another that says, AUDIO1. The AUDIO1 CD icon of course, has songs on it.
I'm trying to run bootcamp to install windows, but it won't partion. It says "Verification failed. This disk could not be partitioned. Use Disk Utility to repair this disk."
I've repaired it, or least what I thought was repairing it.
I went to Disk Utility, highlighted Macintosh HD and under "First Aid" I clicked "Repair Disk Permissions".
It goes through the process and whatnot. Am I not choosing the correct repair? The button that says "Repair Disk" does not let me click on it.
I was told my date and time was pre 2010 ?!?! checked and yup it was showing Jan 1st 2001.. set the date and time manually charged the iphone via USB then went out.Tried to text my wife and noticed her number was no longer recognised (Number only showing, not name) and that all texts sent this morning where appearing at the bottom of my text list not the top as normal (Figured this out as the iphone had synched with the messed up time and date on the Mac). I re entered her number and when I try to call it it tells me the number is not recognised??

Often this is preceded by the fans gradually increasing in speed until they are runing at maximum speed. BUT the fans behaving that way is NOT due to overheating. I have to use the restart button to make the Mac restart. I have used reset button to reset the motherboard but that did not cure the problem. Anyone have any ideas about how to cure this problem? I'm running 10.4.9. The mac is a dual 1.8 (June 2004). 1.5GB RAM, two SATA internal HDs (Maxtor), two external firewire HDs (Seagate). All the HDs are less than a year old.

I have an external hard drive with lots of media files, and now I backed this up to an identical external hard drive. I wanted to use Carbon Copy Cloner to mirror any changes made in the original hard drive, but I have now tried this for the first time, after having moved some files around. Now instead of moving those files on the other hard drive, CCC just copied these files from the original hard drive, something that takes much longer. Is there any program that could do this more intelligently? (moving files on the backup drive instead of copying them over from the original drive again?)
View 4 Replies View RelatedFirstly, I know pretty much nothing about how to use Automator, nor do I know if it's even the right thing to be useing for this. What I would like to do is create a service that appears when I right click on a folder that sends that folder to DaisyDisk for scanning. I know that the application accepts folders via drag & drop onto the app (or alias). This is Plan B as I would much rather be able to simply work from within Finder via context sensitive menus.I've poked around in Automator in creating a new service, but I can't find a way to invoke or pass anything along to DaisyDisk.

I am trying to record something on my desktop and I recorded it with an application called iscreen recorder lite. I downloaded it off of the application store thinking it would save under a file my computer would recognize. When I tried to play the recording back again, my computer tells me it cannot read the file and I should see if the formatting is right. I checked and the file is under .mov which should be supported by mac

The assistant helped me start the installation whilst I was there and he told me that it would continue when I got home, even if i shut the laptop down there. So this is what I did, however, since I've been home, every time I click Install on Pages in the App Store a message comes up saying : "There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later." Another thing I should mention is that I purchased Pages on a different Apple ID account when I was in the store, but I was told I only had to log in to that account from my Macbook Pro and I could easily download Pages.

The DVDs were burned, a couple of years ago, on the white MB and contain a copies of files from my user (administrator) directory, mostly iWork and MSOffice files.
I am able to read the contents of the DVDs and open the individual files on the white MB but not on my MBPro: when I insert the disk, a finder window appears saying I have inserted a blank DVD and asks me how I wish to proceed in using it.
There many ways to recover the files, not least using the MB I created them with, but I would like to understand why this is occurring. Anyone have any ideas?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been following this forum for over 2 months now and I'm proud to say that it helped me to finally make the decision to buy a mac. I've always been an iPod-fanatic but a completely new OS seemed like a very drastic change. I recently moved houses and now I live about 200 metres from an apple store, so I guess it was just a matter of time before I caved in .Now that I've been using my new laptop for about a week I can honestly say that I've never enjoyed using a computer as much as I do now. I'm already getting frustrated when using my PC (a Dell Inspiron 1525) to transfer files because it doesn't function as fluently as my mac, I believe that this is a good sign . What I like the most about my new machine are the multi-touch gestures on the trackpad and the very good battery life (I can easily watch over 3.5 hours of video with Airport turned off and low light conditions. Coming from barely 1h15 of word processing on my Dell, I can say that I'm quite impressed). I'm also a lot more productive on this computer than I ever was on any other laptop, I don't know what it is but i'm guessing it has something to do with the fullscreen option in Pages '09. Also, the backlit keyboard is incredibly useful when instant messaging in my room in the middle of the night without my parents knowing, or typing in dark lecture halls.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHas anyone else experience a problem with apple products, where it seems just over the year warrenty, your ipod, or mac starts to play up?
I bought a Macbook in September 2007, I was always extremely careful with it, only used it for home use (barely ever took it out to uni or friends), and used the disc drive only when putting cds onto itunes, or watching installing software. Yet, by December-January of 2008, the Disc drive was making funny noises, and stopped working. Again, I never overused it, nor did I underuse it, I was always careful with my macbook, and yet the drive just went. I can't afford to replace the drive, nor can I afford to purchase a new computer, so I've continued using it.
My ipod 120g, which I got for Christmas last year, has recently started to play up. It frequently freezes, sometimes doesn't show up on the computer, etc. Now for both of these products, the warrenty expired either days or a couple of months after these problems occured, so I have no help from apple.
My question is, has anyone else experienced this phenomenom? To me it seems almost as if Apple only design their products to last a year, expecting people to upgrade and thus fork out more money. Let me make this clear that I love using Mac OS x, it's pure quality, fast and efficient, but the hardware just doesn't match it's quality. I really wanted to continue to be a mac owner in the future, and yet, I refuse to fork out yearly for an upgrade.
I know there is the option of a 3 year warrenty with apple, but it costs an absolute bundle, $400 if I were to buy the $2000 (aussie dollars) macbook pro, so I won't be doing that. Also, I don't think it's ethical to expect your customers to fork out approx. 20% of the cost price for a guarentee that your machine won't break down for 2 extra years.
To me, Apple is, Apple has become, the Microsoft of the 21st Century.
All of the changes that I make to my dock (e.g. adding new programs/icons, hiding and magnifying) all revert back after I reset, log off or shut down my system. Can anyone help with advice on how to keep my changes from reverting back?
