Mar 23, 2009i noticed that she now is now in jabber, while i'm in iChat. i can't figure out how to get her out of jabber and on to iChat. restarted computer.... nothing works.

May 3, 2008I've set up iChat with AIM and Google Talk (which uses Jabber). When I click on the active iChat icon, it only opens the AIM buddy list. Is there a way to make it also open my Google Talk/Jabber list as well?

May 22, 2010I use iChat on my Mac and BeejiveIM on my iPhone - both with the same Jabber account. Also, I have Push Notifications turned on and I get all messages on my iPhone even if BeejiveIM is closed - you surely guessed it. What's so annoying? When I chat in iChat, all messages go to my iPhone as well and it "beeps" every second. How can I change the priority of iChat (or BeejiveIM - if possible) to make iPhone not getting messages when iChat's status is set to "Available"? Don't tell me to use Adium instead, 'cause I've used it and then switched to iChat.

Feb 28, 2009I recently ripped my Monty Python and the Holy Grail DVD to my computer so i can back it up, and in the VIDEO_TS folder there are 5 different parts. The problem is, English is the default track for only 2 of them. The other ones are in different languages, and for me to put it into english i have to change the trach from track 1 to 2 in VLC.
How do i combine all of them, keeping it as english?

Mar 22, 2009I have one iTunes library on my MBP and another on an iMac that are different. I want to combine them into one (on the iMac) but when I try the songs/videos moved over can't be found by the iMac (have the exclamation mark next to the title). I really don't want to backup to disc to move them over by restoring because the library I am moving is 70+ GB (that's a lot of discs) so I have copied the folder onto a separate harddrive. How do I combine these libraries? Please give me step by step instructions that a middle aged Mom who has not slept through the night in 14 years can understand.

* Connect a 30 minute video with one large or 3-4 small text files
* Connect many of these video-text connections into a whole
* Search through and sort all these files
What I'm actually doing is compiling a ~30-minute video of a chef with several recipe text files into a "show," and then all the shows would be compiled into a "series," and I should be able to search the series for a particular show or recipe within a show and sort (sort of narrow down, like searching in iTunes Library) recipes by keywords like ingredients or cook time.
I'm starting here just in case there's already an application that accomplishes this, as I have absolutely no idea how to translate this paragraph into a search term. I'm totally cool with using some program that could just somehow connect text and videos and search/sort through the text files, but I still don't know what one would be.
Also, I'm generally a novice programmer, but I'm very experienced with some web programming, so I know exactly how I could make a website for this; however, the whole point of this is to be able to access it offline and possibly transfer it between machines. With my limited knowledge and even more limited coding creativity, is there a way to make a sort of offline website for this?

Jan 11, 2010I've got some PDFs I'm trying to compile into one single PDF file. I'm using an automator script which is working well, except for the fact that the resultant PDF's page sizes are all over the place � some are huge whereas others are pretty tiny...
Is there something I'm missing here? Is there a way to combine PDFs and not have the pages sizes turn out weird? The PDFs are from different sources (some have been scanned at various resolutions, some are word documents that were printed to PDF from within OS X) so that could be the reason, but I'm just looking for a solution atm.

Ideally it will sync to multiple computers and the cloud (automatically) for backup. Enable me to group items into different categories and rooms. And generate itemised documents that can easily be converted into PDFs, Emails or Printed Documents for submitting actual insurance claims (hopefully I'll never need to do it). Mar 4, 2010I have been a long time PC user and am a mobile PC engineer but have only recently got a Mac for training purposes as a lot more of my customers are moving over to Mac's.For the most part I can self learn and get tips from google and these forums but I am stuck on this problem. I am having trouble with moving contact groups from 2004 Entourage to 2008 Entourage, everything else has pulled over fine including individual contacts, messages etc.It just wont pull these groups over, I've tried exporting to an .rge exporting to tab separated values and drag and drop on to memory stick. There is no error but the groups don't appear in the contacts list?

Aug 23, 2010I was just thinking about the stuff I have on my HD, and I'm not really sure what is eating up the 500gb HD I have installed in it (with only 50gb or so available at the moment). The usual culprits (iTunes and iPhoto library) are both on externals.
And i don't *think* I've got nearly 450gb worth of audio work on here.
So my question is, is there an application that will scan through my system HD and tell me which olders/files are taking up the most space? This may give me some idea of what I should start getting rid of.

Aug 29, 2014I switched from Ubuntu to Mac OS X 10.9.4 today at work. I'm already using Mac OS X on my private MacBook since two years now. We're using Cisco Jabber at work and I remember the Messages App to also support the XMPP protocol. So I added a new account, entered my credentials, the Jabber server and its port. All worked fine at first. Chatting with people using clients other than the original Cisco Jabber (either for Windows or for Mac) worked fine. But every message I'm receiving from someone using Cisco Jabber starts with an underscored "Subject" text. I don't think this is sent from Cisco Jabber as part of the text because I did not have such problems with receiving messages using Pidgin in 12 months.
So: Is there a way to turn this off or is it really sent by Cisco Jabber and Pidgin simply ignored it all the time?

Mar 3, 2008I am using ichat with my AIM account and it has worked fine. But yesterday it stopped logging me in. When I select available for my status I get a message saying "An unidentified AIM socket error has occurred". How do I fix this problem? I tried logging in using AIM on Windows Vista and it works fine so there is nothing wrong with my account. Also, I have deleted my aim account from ichat and re-addng it and I still get the same error.

Mar 19, 2009I am in the process of setting up iChat on my spousal unit's iMac. I've already created a Jabber account, using her gmail address. That seems to work fine. Now I'd like to add an AIM account. When I click on "Get an iChat Account..." in the Account Setup window,It was my understanding that this signup gets you an AIM account, but it from the first line on the page, it seems to assume that you're using .Mac (even more oddly, since .Mac doesn't actually exist any longer).What am I missing here? Aren't AIM, MobileMe and .Mac accounts the same for purposes of iChat?
