I am using an old iMac g3 or whatever it is, and ive downloaded some programs and when i try to open them, it bounces on the dock and them shrinks and goes away. It has done that with Teamspeak and Mumble which are voice chat programs. Is it not supported? If it werent wouldnt it say it in a message like with another program I downloaded? I am using mac osx version 10.4.11.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy copy of Safari keeps resetting every time I close it. I lose bookmarks, history and extensions. This started in Leopard. It keeps giving me the copy I get after a fresh install of Safari, with the default bookmark tabs, every time i open it.
I deleted Safari using AppCleaner, then I reinstalled Safari after downloading it from Apple, both before and after the upgrade to Snow Leopard, all the way to 10.6.4. I have fixed and repaired permissions. Completely baffled. Only extension I use is clicktoFlash. Happens even if no extension installed. Examined plist file, keeps defaulting to the copy on first install.
I find Firefox too slow and Chrome still needs work. I loved Safari until this started happening. Just want it to keep my bookmarks and tabs after each open.
Recently I installed SafariStand and loved how you could add a new tab by a bookmark on the bookmark bar rather than having to click on the little plus sign way in the corner in Safari 4. I also tried to add a close tab bookmark as well but have no lucking in finding out how.

it closes the app completly, i have to close the app then go to the finder bar and press on the name of the open app and go down to quit in order for it to quit completly, how do you set it up to close completly by pressing the 'x'?
(example: if firefox is open, i hit the red 'x' and the program closes, but in the finder bar on top of the screen, it shows the name still and in the dock bar it shows a little white speck under the app and it is not closed completely.
My Mail has worked since the beginning, but yesterday it stopped fetching incoming mails. I can send mails, but not receive! The clock keeps on spinning and says "fetching new mail" My server ports is set to 25 and 110 as default. When I try to quit Mail, it dosen't. I have to force-quit Mail to close it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst, I am fully aware of the two plug-ins that have both of these features. SafariStand and Glims. I'd prefer not to use SafariStand, and I don't want to use Glims (buggy). I'm not here to debate their merits. The features I want are for Safari's download manager to close automatically, and for all links to automatically open in new tabs.
What I'm wondering is: are there any other plug-ins that offer these features for Safari 4 running Snow Leopard? Are there any tweaks to the system that don't involve plug-ins? As in, are there some terminal commands that can emulate these settings somehow?
Have a PC hooked up to a Pioneer plasma here, and it's basically used to loop trailers in my video-store. The PC is running Windows 2003, and I thought iTunes is probably perfect for this as all the trailers I use are the 720p ones from Apple's servers. So I connect to the PC with VNC (no mouse or keyboard attached), start up iTunes, start the playlist with the videos and they start running fullscreen. But whenever I close the VNC connection the video window disappears from the Pioneer and I just get the desktop + iTunes. The videos are still running though, as the sound is playing and iTunes say they're running, but the video is completely gone.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOS 10.9.3. This morning the Finder keyboard shortcut Command-W stopped closing windows and instead opened a folder burried fairly deeply in my Home folder. I moved that folder and managed to get Command-W to stop opening it, but it will still NOT close a window in Finder. Nor will it close windows in applications. What does happne is that the frame of the window flashes (but it remains open).

Just a bunch of images and some audio.
When I export via File > Export > Quicktime Movie..., the cross dissolves between images disappear when I watch the movie in Quicktime.
When I export via File > Export > Using Quicktime Conversion... the color looks horrible in the Quicktime movie.
I know we can goto my computer click eject disk and then close it manually.
Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to route the disk open/close button on the kb to work?
I was playing with a Mac the other day and I noticed that the red ball with an X does not actually close a program. If this the way it works or there is an option to make the X close or minimize them?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am currently running 10.4 on my MBP, but due to work, it appears I am forced to upgrade to 10.5 at least, so that I can use some software that is integral to my job. I already have a CPU drop in DVD, so I'm assuming it should be a pretty easy upgrade. I'm planning to do it tonight. Will all of my old 10.4 Apps run on 10.5, or will I need to install 10.5 and then update all my apps? I'm really hoping they will work as is, because I have a huge amount of apps and really don't want to have to update them before they will work again. If anyone can answer my question, or has any tips, tricks, advice, etc.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently moved to Mac after a long time with Windows so the application and file structure is taking some time to get used to.
I installed Adobe Photoshop into my Applications folder. It created an "Adobe Photoshop" folder containing a shortcut to Photoshop plus a bunch of other folders for plugins, presets, scripts, etc.
I don't want to go into the folder each time I want to open Photoshop, so I tried to move the program from that folder into the main Applications folder, but that did not work (the package would not open). So my question is ... on Windows, I could just create a shortcut to Photoshop and place it in any folder I liked. Is there some way to do that on a Mac? I just want to create a target to Photoshop in my main Applications folder and then hide all the associated folders and files instead of having to access the folder itself from the Applications folder. But I still want those folders accessible from a Finder window.
I have had an iPhone 3G since February 2009. I have not been much of a fan of it, especially over the past summer when the iOS 4.0 update came out. Much of that has been fixed with iOS 4.1.
I am starting to think about getting another phone, and I am hesitant to get an iPhone 4 after the 3G. I am also extremely hesitant to get a smartphone from another maker (WebOS 2.0), but I invested a lot in the past 3-4 years into iTunes with my iPhone and iPod. I have a huge collection in iTunes (40GB+), so I am chained to it.
How can I get a 3rd party smartphone work with iTunes, or atleast be able to pull my collection with a 3rd party software package to sync with my collection or sync with iTunes. I have a Macbook, and use OS X 10.6.4.
I downloaded Geekbench a couple times now but I can't get it to work. Every time i open it it just makes another copy of Geekbench without doing anything else.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI got the new Office 2011 so the new MSN Messenger 8 was included. I've tried everything but nothing works. I can't connect. It'll just say "Sign in failed because the password is incorrect or the sign-in name does not exist. If you have forgotten... blah" I know the password and everything is correct since I can sign in on my windows computer. I've tried using another account and it doesn't work either. I would use Adium but I really dislike the style along with many 3rd party clients. I had MSN 6 installed and that worked fine.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm having some problems running a few apps on my Air. Firstly, Schoolhouse [URL:...] whenever I try to add a new term I get the color wheel and have to force quit. The second is XCode. Opens fine, but as soon as I try to open an existing project I get the perma-color wheel and have to force quit. I use to run both of these apps fine on a 10.5.1 MB, so I'm not sure if it's 10.5.2 that's done this, or if it's the Air.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNot quite sure where to post this, but I have a .wmv movie file which doesn't properly play in either QuickTime and VLC player. QuickTime plays the movie with no video, only emitting the sound, while VLC plays the video and not the sound. I've tried using VisualHub to convert the .wmv to .mp4 for iTunes. I synched the file to iTunes and it only plays the video.
PS: By the way, what applications out there allows me to extract/record the song from the movie file without losing audio quality?
