Applications :: Most Of My Mac Programs Are Not Responding?
Jan 13, 2011Programs such as iTunes, EyeTV, Skype, PhotoBooth, etc just RANDOMLY stop responding. I always have to restart my Mac to get them to respond again. The programs work fine on a guest account.
This is my first Mac and this is my only problem with it please help. I don't want to return it to Apple it's worked so great.

May 11, 2009I've been working on a movie for several weeks and all of a sudden it won't open. After several minutes I have to perform a forced quit of IMovie as it's not responding. This really sucks as I've been working on this presentation for some time in order to have it ready for graduation later this month. I'm going to start using the older version of IMovie.

May 25, 2012I've been experiencing the same problems since installing the 10.7.3 in February. I have an iMac (2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 - OS X 10.7.4) only 12 months old. When I installed OS X version 10.7.3 I noticed that a variety of applications kept freezing and I would have to force quit them as they were "not responding" The applications varied from itunes, word, excel, disk utility, and so on. It didn't seem to discriminate. I also noticed that the wifi kept dropping out and was rarely detected by my smart phone (not problems with wifi connectivity on phone). The other problem was that I couldn't restart the computer or even shutdown as it would get stuck on a white screen. I would have to turn off with on/off button.
I installed the 10.7.3 Combo with some difficulty as it kept freezing as well. It seemed to help for a day but then the same problems came back. Yesterday I installed the latest version update 10.7.4 hoping that this would solve all my problems but unfortunately I am still experiencing the exact same problems.

Nov 18, 2010After finally buying my new 2.66GHz i7 MBP and a fresh copy of MS Office 2011, I was excited to finally have a copy of Office that performed quickly / speedily / comparable in speed to any new Windows machine I've ever used. Not so much. Every copy of Office for Mac I've had has been super slow. I'm talking 20 bounces (minimum) to open, pinwheel to do many functions, etc. Every copy of Office I've used on any Mac has had some degree of sluggishness.
I can't understand it! My bare bones Windows 7 computer (with much slower specs than my new i7) launches Office instantly, no lag, no problems! Why is Office plagued with speed issues? It's absolutely maddening. As a side note, I have always preferred the Windows version of Office to the Mac-skinned version MS gives us. I can't be alone here, can I? How does Office run on a hex-core Mac?

Sep 23, 2007i am pretty new at the mac-ness so i might just be dumb about everything....anyways i have a macBook thats just about 3 weeks old and something happened whenever i click the mail app it will load up like it wants to work but then no messages will show and when the curser is over the window there is a spinning ball, then i am have to force quit to close it...i tried running the 2 grey install disks (Mac OS X) thinking that might fix it but no...it didnt..
ps....my iphoto wont load either it just bounces once and nothing will happen, tried running iLife '08 a few times but nothing....mail app is more important but i wish to fix both
Applications :: ITunes Store Responding Really Slow
Feb 15, 2009For the past 2/3 weeks the itunes store has become extremely slow and to load a page on it takes 2-3 minutes! It also has loads of missing images/links and when buffering a preview track it takes up to 30 seconds to play a few seconds of the track. It is defiantly not a problem my end with internet and it is over 2MB. I have just read on the Apple Discussions that this is happening to other people with the latest update. [URL].

May 27, 2010I'm a new macbook pro i5 user (first mac). Got it last wednesday..I've gone by with figuring stuff out myself, and browsing for help articles etc. online
I have a Western Digital 500gb fw/usb external harddrive that I used with my pc laptop. It's formatted in NTFS, and filled up with my mp3's. I've tried to drag the whole folder over to itunes, it chokes up and shows the rainbow icon thing both on usb and on FW. Then I tried to choose like 10 folders and import, still chokes up but it did manage to import SOME of those folders. So you can see it'll be a big problem for me to import the whole thing if I have to live with this and do it manually.
Second thing is, the few GB's that it has imported, everytime I open itunes now, it tries to finish estimating pauses and whatever for those tracks, but keeps choking up and get unresponsive. So I have to hard-quit itunes, or quickly hit the X several times to make it stop figuring out the pauses etc.
Wondering what is up with this...brand ned MBP that otherwise runs well, newest itunes that otherwise runs well, no problem with the harddrive...You guys have a solution? Should I format the harddrive to another format, what?

Aug 8, 2010I have never had a problem before but, recently, my gmail isn't working with the mail application. I can see sent messages, but the mailbox no longer downloads mail from gmail. My inbox looks empty on the application even but, I logged into gmail on google and all the inbox messages were there.

I put the latest OS on the BlackBerry and installed the latest PocketMac version + the USB drive as instructed to by the BlackBerry site. I'm trying to install this bphone theme (iPhone look-alike) and PocketMac just hangs. I checked it, and it is not responding. Seems to have a problem opening /dev/cu.blackberry as it hangs thereafter in console.

Mar 1, 2009If I open TextEdit, it seems to work ok. But if I open an existing file (RTF), TextEdit opens but is "not responding" (says the Activity Monitor), for about 2 minutes. Then the file I wanted to open suddenly appears and works fine.
How come? And how can I make TextEdit work normally again?

Sep 3, 2010Now I know that a lot of people have had this problem in the past but I'm hoping that maybe someone will have a solution now that actually fixes this problem.When I attempt to sign in I get the error message "Sign in to Microsoft Messenger failed because the service is not responding. The service is not available or you may not be connected to the internet."
I've tried deleting every trace of msn and reinstalling it, Which did not work. I've also tried upgrading to msn 8 beta (Which incidentally crashes when I try to open it) and downgrading to 6.0.3. Neither of these fixed the problem. I've tried resetting my router, which had no effect. I've tried disabling proxies but it turns out I don't have any so that's not the problem. I've looked at the firewall but msn is not blocked.
Other clients such as amsn and adium are not experiencing the same problem. Msn is working fine on my macbook and other windows machines in my household. It is just my Imac that seems to be having the problem.I have scoured the internet and nothing I have found has been of any use.

Jun 14, 2010I'm working with a Mac Pro (2x3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 4 GB RAM) and a dual 23" monitor setup. Quite recently the second monitor stopped responding, after disconnecting everything, moving, and reconnecting. (Everything was boxed lovingly in its original packaging and moved by gentle movers.)
It isn't the monitors � both work fine in the first monitor port. The computer recognizes there is a second monitor attached, allowing me to access Arrangement options under System Preferences > Displays.
The power light on the second monitor comes on, blinking in the following manner (if it were Morse Code): dot dash dot....(then it is dark for about four seconds before repeating the same blinking sequence). It appears to have some sort of meaning.
Any ideas? Is there a way to reset this?

Jan 26, 2009Just made an image slideshow in Final Cut.
Just a bunch of images and some audio.
When I export via File > Export > Quicktime Movie..., the cross dissolves between images disappear when I watch the movie in Quicktime.
When I export via File > Export > Using Quicktime Conversion... the color looks horrible in the Quicktime movie.

Mar 6, 2010I am using an old iMac g3 or whatever it is, and ive downloaded some programs and when i try to open them, it bounces on the dock and them shrinks and goes away. It has done that with Teamspeak and Mumble which are voice chat programs. Is it not supported? If it werent wouldnt it say it in a message like with another program I downloaded? I am using mac osx version 10.4.11.

Jul 26, 2008I have a PowerMac Dual G4 @ 500mhz that has issue with waking up from sleep. Running Tiger 10.4.11 with a fresh install of it on there. 512mb memory populating all 4 slots. I've verified permission, verified the HDD via disk utility. I've also run MacOSXmemtest that I purchased and that came up clean. I've also reset the PMU. When I wake the computer up from sleep it will usually wake up to a display and then the mouse and keyboard work momentarily (USB MS keyboard and Logitech Mouse) and then I'll get the beachball of death. The mouse and keyboard will then stop responding completely. I have to manually restart the computer but it seems to work great if it doesn't go into sleep.

Jan 11, 2011I am currently running 10.4 on my MBP, but due to work, it appears I am forced to upgrade to 10.5 at least, so that I can use some software that is integral to my job. I already have a CPU drop in DVD, so I'm assuming it should be a pretty easy upgrade. I'm planning to do it tonight. Will all of my old 10.4 Apps run on 10.5, or will I need to install 10.5 and then update all my apps? I'm really hoping they will work as is, because I have a huge amount of apps and really don't want to have to update them before they will work again. If anyone can answer my question, or has any tips, tricks, advice, etc.

Sep 12, 2010I recently moved to Mac after a long time with Windows so the application and file structure is taking some time to get used to.
I installed Adobe Photoshop into my Applications folder. It created an "Adobe Photoshop" folder containing a shortcut to Photoshop plus a bunch of other folders for plugins, presets, scripts, etc.
I don't want to go into the folder each time I want to open Photoshop, so I tried to move the program from that folder into the main Applications folder, but that did not work (the package would not open). So my question is ... on Windows, I could just create a shortcut to Photoshop and place it in any folder I liked. Is there some way to do that on a Mac? I just want to create a target to Photoshop in my main Applications folder and then hide all the associated folders and files instead of having to access the folder itself from the Applications folder. But I still want those folders accessible from a Finder window.

Oct 23, 2010I have had an iPhone 3G since February 2009. I have not been much of a fan of it, especially over the past summer when the iOS 4.0 update came out. Much of that has been fixed with iOS 4.1.
I am starting to think about getting another phone, and I am hesitant to get an iPhone 4 after the 3G. I am also extremely hesitant to get a smartphone from another maker (WebOS 2.0), but I invested a lot in the past 3-4 years into iTunes with my iPhone and iPod. I have a huge collection in iTunes (40GB+), so I am chained to it.
How can I get a 3rd party smartphone work with iTunes, or atleast be able to pull my collection with a 3rd party software package to sync with my collection or sync with iTunes. I have a Macbook, and use OS X 10.6.4.

Nov 26, 2010I got the new Office 2011 so the new MSN Messenger 8 was included. I've tried everything but nothing works. I can't connect. It'll just say "Sign in failed because the password is incorrect or the sign-in name does not exist. If you have forgotten... blah" I know the password and everything is correct since I can sign in on my windows computer. I've tried using another account and it doesn't work either. I would use Adium but I really dislike the style along with many 3rd party clients. I had MSN 6 installed and that worked fine.

Feb 29, 2008I'm having some problems running a few apps on my Air. Firstly, Schoolhouse [URL:...] whenever I try to add a new term I get the color wheel and have to force quit. The second is XCode. Opens fine, but as soon as I try to open an existing project I get the perma-color wheel and have to force quit. I use to run both of these apps fine on a 10.5.1 MB, so I'm not sure if it's 10.5.2 that's done this, or if it's the Air.

Feb 11, 2009Not quite sure where to post this, but I have a .wmv movie file which doesn't properly play in either QuickTime and VLC player. QuickTime plays the movie with no video, only emitting the sound, while VLC plays the video and not the sound. I've tried using VisualHub to convert the .wmv to .mp4 for iTunes. I synched the file to iTunes and it only plays the video.
PS: By the way, what applications out there allows me to extract/record the song from the movie file without losing audio quality?
