I'm having some problems running a few apps on my Air. Firstly, Schoolhouse [URL:...] whenever I try to add a new term I get the color wheel and have to force quit. The second is XCode. Opens fine, but as soon as I try to open an existing project I get the perma-color wheel and have to force quit. I use to run both of these apps fine on a 10.5.1 MB, so I'm not sure if it's 10.5.2 that's done this, or if it's the Air.

When I export via File > Export > Quicktime Movie..., the cross dissolves between images disappear when I watch the movie in Quicktime.
When I export via File > Export > Using Quicktime Conversion... the color looks horrible in the Quicktime movie.
Would gaming work better in XP or Windows 7 (for macbook pro)? I just bought the newsest macbook pro 13'' and I like playing starcraft 2 the game in windows. Should I be using windows XP or Windows 7 for maximum performance?

The page setup dialog doesn't work on my new(ish) MacBook Pro. At first I thought it was just a problem with Excel, but the same thing occurs in Word, when trying to print pdfs within Acrobat, everywhere. When I bring up the dialog box to change the paper size or format, it lets me click on what I want, and the OK box lights up, but when I click 'OK' nothing happens. I can't make it register the changes. I've tried deleting and then reinstalling the printer, to no avail. What could the problem be?

However, when Handbrake has finished scanning the source DVD (commercial DVDs), it only shows 1 title in the drop down title box. I have tried restarting, taking the DVD out and popping it back in again, but with no luck. Has anyone got any ideas what I'm doing wrong? How do I get all titles to show in the drop down title selection box?

When I press caps lock, no green light turns on and letters remain in non-capital form. Even when I hold Caps lock for a few seconds, nothing happens. If I physically connect an apple keyboard via usb to my computer, caps lock doesn't work.

I told myself not to do it. Don't update the Safari software to 4.0, you know how they always mess up these things. And yet, per accident I did. Of course Safari 4.0 doesn't work. Every time I open it, it shuts down. iChat also doesn't work anymore, and even the Dashboard shuts down every now and then. In addition, the computer feels incredibly slow. I can't download rapidshare links on iGetter anymore and everything just feels wrong. Countless threads have been opened on this matter with a variety of different problems for different people. Yet I have not read a proper solution. I have seen all kinds of technical solutions being offered but I'm not a computer wiz and I do not know the terms they use. I just want to go back to Safari 3.2 or at least the one before the 4.0 But I read that deleting Safari 4 and reinstalling 3.2 won't work because of a certain webkit that got installed with it, making it impossible to go back.

It has done that with Teamspeak and Mumble which are voice chat programs. Is it not supported? If it werent wouldnt it say it in a message like with another program I downloaded? I am using mac osx version 10.4.11.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently running 10.4 on my MBP, but due to work, it appears I am forced to upgrade to 10.5 at least, so that I can use some software that is integral to my job. I already have a CPU drop in DVD, so I'm assuming it should be a pretty easy upgrade. I'm planning to do it tonight. Will all of my old 10.4 Apps run on 10.5, or will I need to install 10.5 and then update all my apps? I'm really hoping they will work as is, because I have a huge amount of apps and really don't want to have to update them before they will work again. If anyone can answer my question, or has any tips, tricks, advice, etc.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently moved to Mac after a long time with Windows so the application and file structure is taking some time to get used to.
I installed Adobe Photoshop into my Applications folder. It created an "Adobe Photoshop" folder containing a shortcut to Photoshop plus a bunch of other folders for plugins, presets, scripts, etc.
I don't want to go into the folder each time I want to open Photoshop, so I tried to move the program from that folder into the main Applications folder, but that did not work (the package would not open). So my question is ... on Windows, I could just create a shortcut to Photoshop and place it in any folder I liked. Is there some way to do that on a Mac? I just want to create a target to Photoshop in my main Applications folder and then hide all the associated folders and files instead of having to access the folder itself from the Applications folder. But I still want those folders accessible from a Finder window.
I have had an iPhone 3G since February 2009. I have not been much of a fan of it, especially over the past summer when the iOS 4.0 update came out. Much of that has been fixed with iOS 4.1.
I am starting to think about getting another phone, and I am hesitant to get an iPhone 4 after the 3G. I am also extremely hesitant to get a smartphone from another maker (WebOS 2.0), but I invested a lot in the past 3-4 years into iTunes with my iPhone and iPod. I have a huge collection in iTunes (40GB+), so I am chained to it.
How can I get a 3rd party smartphone work with iTunes, or atleast be able to pull my collection with a 3rd party software package to sync with my collection or sync with iTunes. I have a Macbook, and use OS X 10.6.4.
I downloaded Geekbench a couple times now but I can't get it to work. Every time i open it it just makes another copy of Geekbench without doing anything else.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI got the new Office 2011 so the new MSN Messenger 8 was included. I've tried everything but nothing works. I can't connect. It'll just say "Sign in failed because the password is incorrect or the sign-in name does not exist. If you have forgotten... blah" I know the password and everything is correct since I can sign in on my windows computer. I've tried using another account and it doesn't work either. I would use Adium but I really dislike the style along with many 3rd party clients. I had MSN 6 installed and that worked fine.

View 24 Replies View RelatedNot quite sure where to post this, but I have a .wmv movie file which doesn't properly play in either QuickTime and VLC player. QuickTime plays the movie with no video, only emitting the sound, while VLC plays the video and not the sound. I've tried using VisualHub to convert the .wmv to .mp4 for iTunes. I synched the file to iTunes and it only plays the video.
PS: By the way, what applications out there allows me to extract/record the song from the movie file without losing audio quality?

But I can't get them working. Apparently the overlays are set to a date, so they always will appear in front. But they don't on my Mac. When I drag them over they will appear in front, but when a newer item is placed in the same folder, as the stack overlay, the overlay will just go up in the "stack hierarchy"

I have a G5 that was on 10.5.5. Then went back to 10.4 by doing an "Archive and Install" from a 10.4 install DVD (the one that one buys from Apple & is good for all computers). But now my applications will not work properly. My CS3 apps have reverted back to trial versions. FCP won't open. Disk Utilities says this version of OS doesn't support it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEvidently through automatic upgrades my iTunes has upgraded itself to version 7.7.1 - I just tried to open it and got a pop up window telling me that in order to use iTunes I need OS 10.4.9 (I have 10.4.6). How could it have downloaded for an OS that it won't work with? I don't feel like shelling out the bucks for the OS upgrade, and when I tried to install an older version of iTunes, I got another pop up window telling me I couldn't because a newer version was already installed. I'm afraid that if I dump the newer one I'll lose all my tunes.

I have the latest updates and have done a few uninstall/install cycles + usual mac stuff (delete preferences, repair permissions) but to no avail. How does it work for you ? When I used the 2004 version it run much smoother. I could switch back, but while Office 2004 came from "unknown" sources I have a legal purchased copy of Office 2008 which I'd like to use.

View 12 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to certain websites that use Adobe Flash Player with Firefox 3 in one user account, the Flash doesn't work. Some Flash websites do work, such as Youtube. What in the world is going wrong? How can I fix it?
The details:
I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.6, it has two user accounts. One user account is mine, has administrator privileges, and gets most of the use. The other user account was created later, lacks administrator privileges, and gets little use. Both user accounts have Safari and the latest Firefox 3 (3.0.8) installed. The problem with Flash occurs ONLY in the second (non-admin) user account, ONLY in Firefox, and ONLY on certain websites.
Websites with Flash that do work:
1. YouTube.com
2. Every website I could think of with a simple Flash intro
Websites with Flash that DON'T work:
1. pandora.com //The HTML loads fine, but there is a dead white box where the Flash UI should be
2. Macromedia Flash settings manager //There is a medium white box where the Flash UI that allows you to change settings should be.
3. seeqpod.com //Very odd failure mode: The Flash UI loads, and works. I click "sign in", and the "sign in" dialog appears. I type my username and password and click enter, and then the whole Flash UI freezes forever (well, for at least 30 minutes). This crash is unrecoverable.
Note that all three of those broken websites do work in Safari in the non-admin user, and all three of those broken websites do work in both Safari and Firefox in the Admin user.
What I have tried:
1. Upgrading from Flash 9 to the latest Flash 10. No change whatsoever.
2. Uninstalling all versions of Flash using the Flash Uninstaller for OS X 10.3 and up, available from Adobe/Macromedia, then reinstalling Flash 10. No change whatsoever.
I recently purchased a used macbook and the previous owner left a copy of Photoshop CS 4 on there for me (I don't know if that is kosher or not). But I'm planning on buying the entire Creative Suite by next year, but it is a perk for me to have access to Photoshop for the time being.
I'm paranoid about losing access to Photoshop though, so I never update it with the Adobe updater for fear of it asking me for the serial # or it sensing a different IP or whatever it could do. But last night I allowed it to update the updater. Everything works fine still. I just allowed it to update itself, the actual updater program.
So i have a few questions:
1. Can people legitimately sell a mac with third party software still on the machine, such as Adobe Photoshop in my case?
2. When I allowed Adobe Updater udate itself from 6 version 6 to 6.0.2, did it talk to Adobe at all with regards to Photoshop, or is that too far of a stretch?
3. If I allowed the Updater to update Photoshop, would it check the serial # or anything at that point, or was the initial installation all there is to liscensing?
I'm asking this out of curiosity and because if I am in flagrant violation, I'd rather not be using the program. I'm paranoid about this type of thing too.
