I've purchased a series of Tutorial DVDs from digitaltutors.com and now wanted to be able to see the movie tutorial files in my Archos player on my way to work. To do that I must encode the files on a different codec.
The thing is the quicktime .mov files have some kind of protection that won't let me export or save the files.
Is there any software that can unlock the .mov files? Or a workaround on this matter.
The title says it all. Pages 09 is intermittently hanging (spinning beachball) when I try to save or export a document. It doesn't happen EVERY time, so I can't reproduce it, but it's happened several times in the past few days. I'm running Snow Leopard on an original Intel iMac. Everything is updated to the latest versions. What might be causing this or how to stop it?

For example: If i want to open a photo which are in "desktop" with photoshop with the "Open..." option, the "choose destination" pop-up window that appear freezes and I have to Force Quit. If i choose another folder, nothing happens.

I wanted to know if there was a way I could make changes i.e. enhance function on the photos and then do a "save as" to another individual file as opposed to saving it in the main, big iphoto file. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have two accounts in my mac, I decided to transfer them all into one user, therefore I deleted one of the user. I have ticked not to delete the home folder and this cause a file named "XXXXX (deleted)" exists. I tried to drag the "XXXX (deleted)" into my home folder. But I cannot open anything. I knew I could solve it by setting in "Get Info". But it takes me millions of years, because there are lot's of files.
Could I rebuild the account before to move those folders?
how does it save your files? is it like Time Machine that keeps on saving until you max out your space? or it just clones your current files only when you instruct it?the reason why I am asking is that I am planning to have 3 partitions on my external

I have 2 macs (G4 1250) on a network with a Buffalo NAS Linkstation Pro Duo which most of the time works perfectly. However when one of the macs crashes some files on the NAS are locked and can not be written to. The get info permissions says either ' you can read only' or sometimes 'you have custom access' and offers no way of changing it.
I would be quite happy to turn off permissions as there are no other computers and no internet connection to this network. Otherwise if someone could tell me how to unlock the files I would be very grateful.

In dreaded Microsoft word I use "Save As", then click "Options" and there is the option to save my file with a password so that my kids can't get in and muck up my business writing.
I can't see "Options" under "Save as" but I'm just trialling iWorks (full iWorks disc arrives next week).

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo i've recently gotten in the uploading to YouTube craze with my Flip Mino HD but i'm not too happy at the way i've been doing this and am hoping there is an easier way.
As of late i've been importing what i film into iMovie. In iMovie i'll edit the video to my liking. In iMovie i'll "export" to the media browser so it'll show up in GarageBand. Then i'll open GarageBand and edit my film further, dealing with sound; adding music. After that i'll export it as a .MOV to my desktop. Then i'll open iMovie again and import that .MOV file and from there in iMovie will have it upload to YouTube in its original HD format.
I just got a new macbook pro, and when I popped my old secondary hard drive in, I notice that half of my mp3 files are now shown with a little lock next to them. I can manually un lock them one at a time, but I'm a professional DJ, and I have thousands of files. how to unlock an entire directory in one fell swoop? I didn't lock them to begin with, so this is aggravating.
I cannot save bpm or cue points to files while they're locked. My serato scratch live software will also not save overviews while they're locked.

Problem:
I have a folder with numerous subfolders, each containing numerous files that i would like to batch unlock (vs tediously unlocking each individual folder).
failed attempts involve:
- tried the following terminal action: sudo chflags -R nouchg ( as suggested on this website (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106237) but it did not work.
I did not try the other suggestions on the website because it started getting really complicated and i was afraid to do something that may cause damage/delete my files
- tried unlocking the folders and subfolders, however each individual file within the corresponding folder/subfolders remained locked
Partial but suboptimal solutions tried:

however, the option-command-I will only allow me to unlock files each subfolder at a time (as i need to actually highlight the files themselves).
is there a way where i could just unlock all the folder/subfolders/files within an entire directory in one fell swoop?

After upgrading to an SSD, i was having problems with restoring files from Timemachine. i fiexed that by naming my ssd drive the same as the drive that was backedup using time machine. now, i can't seem to edite any of the files restored in Documents from the backup. not can i edit or add content inside the folders withing documents. i dont know whats going on. they appear lock and there is no way to unlock them. it says i will need to duplicate the items!
View 4 Replies View RelatedAwhile back I installed a wonderfully speedy SSD in my mid-2009 MBP. I used Time Machine to "restore" my stuff. I thought it odd that after that, song files would come up as "locked"...after awhile I realized that EVERY song file in the iTunes Library was now "locked". The FOLDERS are NOT locked, but all the mp3 files within each folder ARE locked.
I know, of course, that "command-i" and uncheck the locked box works on each individual file, but how do I do this on the entire library? Is that even possible? The tedium of opening every single folder and unlocking every file individually would be insane. Is there any way to select the iTunes Music folder and have all the files in all subfolders "unlocked" at once?

The subject line says it all. When I export files with Quicktime Pro, it sometimes creates a .xip file with the .mov file. The key word is 'sometimes'. I just exported 43 files with the exact same settings, and eight of them ended up with .xip files.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to to export my Audio from FCPX 10.1.3 as Separate Files (per Roles) from a Multicam clip but it stops and freezes after exporting the first Audio track listed in the export setting. Example:
I have a Multicam clip with 3 Audio Roles (Bob, John and Marc, all assigned to their Audio Roles).When i export Audio as Roles (separate files), i then select all the Roles i want to export: Marc + John + Bob. It will export up to 35% or so and freeze.Then i look in the Finder location of the export to see the audio of Marc only.
If i put John + Marc + Bob, i will see the Audio for John only and so on.If (i have to at this point) i cancel the export, the audio file gets deleted and i get nothing out of FCP. Is there a way to export Audio as Separate Roles file from a Multicam clip or do i need to add all the Audio clip separately from the Multicam on the Timeline?
I'm adding the audio in the Multicam clip so that, if i want to remove a chunk of video from the timeline, The audio attached to it will also be removed and everything stays sync'ed after the cut i made.
I tried Detaching the Audio from the Main Timeline. I then get the Audio but still in a "multi cam" bundle. When i select that and look in the Inspector, i see all the Roles but i can't Export like i want to.

in the last two days, when i make something in garageband and i want to export to disk. before i would choose my desktop and after normalizing and converting...it would put a mp3 on my desktop. recently when i do this, it normalizes the track...but it just stops after that....no mp3 on my desktop....i have to send it to itunes now and then pull it out of itunes to have an mp3....what is going on?
View 7 Replies View RelatedThis week my mac pro started to become flaky. Apps that I use all the time, started having problems saving, then they started having problems opening files. I could drag and drop files on an app and they would open. Cmd+S would sometimes save, sometimes not. If I closed the window without saving, I'd get the warning prompt, select OK to save and the file would save. Printing started flaking. Page setup comes up with a blank dialog, with Printer settings pulldown blank. Trying to print, either nothing would happen or the app would crash. I have run disk verfy - everything checks out. I have repaired permissions, I have run techtool pro. Nothing works. I have done a Cmd-Opt click to start apps for a fresh prefs file. It seems to have started with one app and is showing up in others, mostly Adobe/Microsoft apps, but now Open Office, too. I've had and diagnosed many macs over the years, but this one's got me perplexed. I've got Sophos Antivirus and nothing has been detected..

Up to now it hasn't bothered me much, but today I wanted to download iBank 4 Quick Start Guide. When I clicked on the link for the guide, Safari went to a pdf page and displayed the first page of the pdf. When I selected "Save As" it gave me a name for the file and the download destination. When I said OK, I got this error: The document “iBank_4_Quick_Start.pdf” could not be exported as “iBank_4_Quick_Start”. This happens for every pdf page I try to download. I get an error every time. The only work around I've found has been to right click (control click) on the button that takes you to the pdf file and select "Save linked file to the desktop" Safari used to allow you do a "Save As" for all pdf's.
