Jan 18, 2010I downloaded my first TV show from iTunes for the first time the other day. But, sadly, when I go to play it, all I can get is the audio and absolutely no visual. Nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong? I have iTunes version 9 and use Mac OSX, version 10.5.8. I've already tried downloading the latest version of Quicktime to see if that would help but to no avail.

Software :: G4 Doesn't Use Audio Visual Port
Dec 29, 2008One of my G4's I am able to connect to a TV with a VGA cable. But my other G4 doesn't use the same cable. The port instead has 3 rows of holes (for pins) and then beside that, a plus sign with a hole in each quarter. What kind of cable is needed to connect this G4 to a TV? It's an HDTV. It's a 1Ghz PowerBook G4 15" with OS 10.4.11. It doesn't have Bluetooth.

Nov 12, 2008So I just installed PS CS4 as downloaded from Adobe's website. When I resize a window, the gray area in the background becomes totally corrupt. Doesn't affect the document itself but it's distracting. I tried turning off OpenGL drawing in the Preferences but that didn't help. I've not seen any visual corruption anywhere else in OS X but wonder if it's a problem with the ATI 3870 at all. Never saw anything like this with CS2 or CS3. It is OpenGL drawing. It wasn't obvious I had to restart Photoshop for it to take effect.

May 29, 2010I want to convert some video files (specifically swf in this case) to audio files so I can listen on my iPod. I looked everywhere and can't find some free software that does that. There are tons that have trial periods with lots of limitations (like it won't convert anything larger than a 5k size file) so I don't want those because I won't know if the thing works well unless I pay for it. I'm not opposed to paying for a converter IF I know it works awesome on a Mac.

I am trying to play a .avi video on my MAC that was originally in .rar compressed format. I opened it in VLC, and the audio wont play.. so i checked the info and saw that:

audio codec: mpga
I have perian downloaded.. it doesnt seem to be doing anyting. I dont know if i've missed something in my extracting process of the .rar file.
Applications :: Won't Work With Audio / Audio Skimming In IMovie 09
Apr 1, 2009I'm using iMovie 09 with the very latest updates applied and I am having trouble with audio skimming in just one of my projects. The project is only 8 minutes long and is just a collage of pictures to music.
The audio skimming button is toggled to on but no green bars show in the equalizer when I skim over the video. The audio works fine when playing the project and in other windows around the project such as the event viewer. I have plenty of free hard drive space and the thumbnails slider is set to '5s'. ALL of my other projects skim no problem.
Now this is the strange part. If I click to enter the precision editor on any part of the video and then click done (even without altering anything) the skimming comes back. It thus disappears if place a new item in the timeline until I go back into the precision editor where it re enables itself.
OS X :: Visual Glitches In Spaces - Hud Fade Out
Jun 24, 2009If I use the arrow-key shortcut (no matter how they are setup in Systems Preferences) whilst holding an App's title-bar, to switch it between spaces, the HUD showing which Space the app has been moved to only shows up sporadically. I've tried changing Spaces settings, turning it on and off, restarted etc. and it still does it. If I use the number key shortcuts it displays fine now matter how quickly I move an app between spaces. If I use the drag method it's also fine... but you can only do that slowly.
If I use the titlebar & arrow keys method very slowly and wait for the HUD to fade out before switching to another space its fine. (i.e move from 1 to 2, HUD shows, wait until it fades out, then move it to space 4, HUD shows). But if I flick an app between spaces quickly the HUD only shows sporadically after the first switch. Sometimes the desktop image will flicker in front of everything for a fraction of a second. I have an Alu MacBook and I can achieve these results after a restart with only the Finder running.
Software :: Finding 64 Bit Visual Hub Alternative?
Aug 31, 2009I've used visual hub for quite a while now and I love it but it only runs in 32 bit. Is there a 64bit alternative? I did a bit of research and found the beta of Handbrake that runs in 64 bit but what I loved about visual hub is that you can queue up however many videos you want and click go. With Handbrake, you have to queue up each video manually.

Sep 10, 2009I'm on 10.6.1 and if i try to rearrange spaces the visualization of it doesn't work properly. I can move the particular space but it's only a transparent overlay ontop of the existing other Spaces and doesn't actually move the underlaying one. It still works, just the visual aspect is messed up and it looks like a bug.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: SL Visual Fireworks Followed By Freeze?
Jun 16, 2012I have just acquired a late 2006 24" iMac with 1GB of RAM. It came with Leopard installed, disks for Leopard and Snow Leopard, and iLife '09. The hard disk was full, as in, zero K free. I threw away a lot of stuff, ordered 3GB of RAM from OWC, and installed Snow Leopard. I then noticed several one-pixel high horizontal lines on the display, and the Mac would freeze up on occasion, but I thought it just needed RAM. I opened iPhoto and played with Faces for quite a while. The next day, I opened a different iPhoto library (my libraries are on an external firewire hard drive) and the Faces scan made the computer freeze. I closed iPhoto, and bits of windows started missing, or repeating themselves as I dragged the mouse. Sometimes there would be "holes" in windows showing my desktop image underneath, or lines of bright pixels would appear. I still thought it was the lack of RAM. Repairing the disk with Disk Utility didn't make any appreciable difference.
Today the RAM arrived and I installed it. The Mac sees it, but the problem has not gone away, it has in fact gotten worse. Every time I go to Disk Utility (starting up from the SL disk), it shows problem, I let it do the repair, it comes up successful, I restart, and it happens all over again. When I do a Safe Boot, everything is perfect. Should I reinstall SL? iPhoto? Downgrade back to Leopard? Is my hard disk bad?

Mar 4, 2009I run a small Web Development business. I use Microsoft tools: Visual Studio and SQL Server (mostly), so the logical choice is to stay on Windows. But I'm not a logical guy. I actually was on the Mac bus not long ago... went through an iMac and then the 13" Macbook. I loved them to pieces, really.After a while, I grew a bit tired of the really small form factor and having to launch a noticeably slower virtual machine to use Windows (I used VMware at the time). I went back to Windows pretty much for business reasons. Now I'm getting the itch to go back to Apple. Why? Their design, look, and feel is a big reason. I also did more exploring when I was on Mac; researching stuff in my field away from the MS world that did open my eyes to new ways of handling development with my business. In a perfect world I would get the 24" iMac but since I run my own business I should stay mobile. Therefore I'm looking at the low-end Macbook Pro. Here are a couple of questions I have:1.) How is Windows in Bootcamp? If I were to go back, I think I would go that route to have as much speed as possible. Especially since the low-end starts with 2 gig ram (grrr)

Jul 3, 2010I got a program called "gfxCardStatus" that allows me to see which graphics card is being used and allows me to manually switch between them. I don't do anything graphically intensive in OS X (I only play games in bootcamp) but the nvidia card is being used most of the time and it makes my mbp hot and kills the time i can use the battery. I switched my MBP to only use the intel card in os x and have seen no performance or visual difference, but I was wondering if this is a bad idea?

Sep 4, 2009I think my superdrive died in my dual-core PM G5. This is what it's doing: I'll insert a DVD and it'll sit for a few seconds, then eject it. It DOES show up in my system profiler though. Is it dead, or is this a software problem? Oh- I should mention that the last thing I did was use Visual Hub to burn an AVI to a DVD. That worked fine. Afterward- nothing. I'm running OS 10.4.9. May 9, 2008suddenly, my MBP (2.6ghz, 15") illuminated keyboard has stopped working. out of the blue. same conditions in the room as when it's worked before - so it's not an ambient lighting problem. the functionality is all turned on, and pressing the dim/brighten keys on the keyboard, while producing visual feedback on the screen (like the volume indicator), produces no illumination on the keyboard. im plugged in, fully charged... can't figure it out!!!
to be honest, i never really use the keyboard illumination, but now that its actually not working, its really bothering

Aug 30, 2008I have a couple of TV show episodes on my iPod and the Audio is out of sync. Sometimes by a 5 seconds then sometimes by 1. The audio is out of sync everywhere not just on my iPod. So if I watch it on my computer, iTunes, iPod it's allways out of sync. So my question is, is their a way to fix the audio without ruining the quality of the video.

Oct 27, 2005A few hours ago I downloaded and installed Audacity to do some simple audio editing for a Director movie I'm working on. After installing, I opened Audacity when all of a sudden I heard a loud pop and then my audio disappeared (I was watching an TV show using EyeTV at the time). I had to force-quit EyeTV, but when I re-opened it the audio was back with no problems.
however...
I soon realised that I was no longer able to get Director to play audio anymore (however the audio from a quicktime VIDEO within the same director movie works fine, it only seems to be MP3s and the like). I made a Projector of the movie and ran it on another Mac and the audio works fine, so it has nothing to do with the director movie.
Soon after I burnt a CD using Toast, and I noticed that the "DING" sound that plays when a disc has finished burning no longer happens.
EDIT: Did a few more tests and I also don't get any audio in games (tried Call of Duty and No One Lives Forever). In fact, NOLF crashes now whenever i try to load a game!!
what is going on?! i'm pulling my hair out here - i need to finish this Director movie and i can't tell if my Lingo scripts are wokring properly without sound.
I have tried deleting Audacity, restarting the Mac, and repairing permissions with no luck. iTunes still has sound, and iCal alarms still sound in case that gives any clues.

We successfully hooked it up last night, and the video worked. I was told in the store that this setup would not transfer audio, so I already knew there would not be sound coming from the TV, rather from the Macbook instead. My Q is: What's the easiest way to get audio to come from the TV? I'd rather not buy external speakers to plug in, if I can help it.

Please post if you have an audio pop or click type sound that is intermittent (every few minutes or couple hours) on your i5 or i7 machine while playing audio through external speakers.

I.e. Plugged in / on battery, programs running, usb plugged in, etc.
Mine happens whether on battery or not, iTunes, games, movies, Locked in video card...
