Applications :: Run Darwine 0.9.27 On Mac (OSX 10.5.6) For Emulation Purposes / X11?

Feb 16, 2009

I am trying to run Darwine 0.9.27 on my Mac (OSX 10.5.6) for emulation purposes, however it does not work. I downloaded X11 2.3.2.1 from the Xquartz project to make sure I was up to date with X11, however that did not solve the problem. For example, here is the error I get when I try and run Knytt, a compact, free Windows game: err:module:attach_process_dlls "gdi32.dll" failed to initialize, aborting err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"Z:\Users\Banjaloupe\Games\Knytt\Knytt.exe" failed, status c0000005

I think the problem is with X11, since I also cannot run GIMPshop, which I know needs X11. However, I have no experience at all using X11 in the first place, which is why I am quite stumped. Of course, the real issue could be with Darwine, or some other incompatibility I'm missing.

Jan 9, 2009

I would like to use the Notepad++ on my new Mac, I found out (after a lot og Googling) that I need and Mac version of the Wine - the Darwine to be able to run it. So I got the 1.1.7 version of the Darwin form HERE After the installation I have the Darwine folder inside the Applications and it contains:

- Sample WineLib Applications
- Wine.Bundle
- WineHelper

Afterwards I got the Notepad++ from HERE. I downloaded the executable file (npp.5.1.3.Installer.exe) Now - my understand it about how to run the Notepad++ correctly is following:

1) Run the Wine.Bundle
2) Click "Choose the application"
3) Do so

- But just I can not choose the "npp.5.1.3.Installer.exe".
- If I just run the npp.5.1.3.Installer.exe direcly via clickung on it - it crashes
- If I try to run the WineHelper - it also crashes ....

Applications :: Any Good Keyloggers For Parental Control Purposes?

Oct 10, 2006

My mother is switching to mac soon, mostly likely an iMac to use as a family computer for her and my youger sister. She likes what sees so far especially in parental controls. However, she wants to be able to keep tabs on my younger sister to make she isn't going to places or saying things she shouldn't be on the web; she wants a second layer of security (she worries that she can get around things parental controls because she is very computer savvy). I figured a keylogger would be the best thing because we could keep track of everything she types on the mac. Does anyone know any good (free) keyloggers for mac?

OS X :: How To Run OS9 On MacBook Under Emulation

Feb 18, 2009

A friend of mine just gave me a Mac OS 9 disc that he was about to throw out, and as I've never used that OS I tried to find an emulator for it on OS X. The problem is that most of the emulator resources and guides contain missing links and missing information, and it seems almost impossible to run OS 9 on a (more than powerful) MacBook under emulation. Do any of you know how to run OS 9 under emulation in OS X?

I run vmware, and can install it with that, however, I'm trying to make it simple for a friend on a mac to run 1 silly program that she needs.

PowerPC :: Run Darwine On OS X 10.4.11

May 30, 2010

I'm having a hell of a time trying to run Darwine on this ol' eMac. I installed Xcode so that I could use MacPorts to install Freetype because it seems to be required for Darwine. So, every time I attempt to run a program, it goes through its font checks, and afterward, it tells me the following:

Quote:

I'm now worried that if I install X11, I may accidentally reinstall the whole computer and potentially lose all my files/apps. Will I reinstall my computer and lose files/apps if I install X11?

Hardware :: Color Laser Printer Selection - PostScript Emulation?

Dec 2, 2009

I've narrowed my Color Laser Printer (multi-function) search to the Brother 9840CDW ($624), Ricoh SP C232SF ($650), Konica Minolta 4690MF($640)/4695MF($1050), and Samsung CLX-6200FX($510). Prices are ephemeral. I'm tempted to take another look at Dell in case I mistakenly dropped them from consideration mistakenly. Konica Minolta seems to support PostScript. Brother seems to offer emulation via Ghostscript. Ricoh and Samsung employ emulation via PCL. I'm interested in buying the new Adobe Creative Suite in 2010/11, when its GCD/OpenCL enabled (fingers crossed). Should I be concerned about this Postscript emulation? What do folks with the current Creative Suite (Windows too) and Color Laser Printers observe today? Does emulation make a big difference on printer output and performance?

Mac Pro :: RAID5 Vs 1 - Archival Purposes

Nov 4, 2009

I just need a bit of help deciding between a software RAID5 vs software RAID1 array for archival purposes. the RAID will be installed into my hackintosh and shared over the network for TimeMachine backups as well as extra backups from my multitudes of external HDDs. i am thinking 3x1TB WD Greens (RAID5) for $103Aus each, or 2x1TB WD Greens (RAID1). my main concern is data loss and speed of the drives. most setups will clearly equal 2TB of total data storage, we feel that will be enough for a few years (will be backing up 2x laptops + 2x iMacs + the hackintosh). which one will be faster? (i guess this wont matter as the network will be the bottlebeck) which one will be more secure in the end? (our house tends to have power dropouts). the network is a gigabit network over cat5e, we may upgrade to cat6e in the future if the speed benefits are THAT great. i am forced to go with a software RAID via OSX at this point in time because a RAID card is just too costly. my current motherboard in the hackintosh is a GA-EG31M-S2 Gigabyte. it has 4 SATA ports and no RAID support - will OSX still be able to do a software RAID? i am presuming that it can. anyway, what are the main pros and cons for this sort of setup?

Those are really my only requirements matte and 1920+ but I also don't want to go above 24" because then it just starts getting too big (especially since it will be in a dorm room next year).
