I have a PC connected to a 5.1 channel 1000W Speaker system, and I know there are options for remote speakers in iTunes, is there a way to set it up so I can select songs on my MacBook's iTunes, and have the sound come through the PC's Speaker System, even a third party program or whatever?
View 1 RepliesI have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) an Airport Extream Version 6.0 Airport Utility (600.92) That I use with two airport express stations, an Apple TV 2nd Generation with latest software up date. Also have Ipad 3rd Generation and two I phone 4's. Issue: After installing the latest Airport Utility software update I'm unable to connect to my remote speakers in iTunes. The speakers are visible in the pop up menu but iTunes times out when trying to connect. If I use remote to select Apple TV and then via Apple TV select my Computers Library I'm able to play music on the Apple TV / Home Speakers... but still not the Airport Express Stations.
When using remote on the iPhone or iPad the speakers are visible as well but I'm unable to select them... iTunes times out. I can steam music from that is on my iPhone or iPad to each individual speaker, but multiple speaker control is not available and the music from my library is not available. I believe the problem is in the Airplay feature of iTunes and I believe the problems arise when you install the latest version of Airport Utility. You can play on remote speakers, only one at a time, and only if you have the music on a stand alone device (iPhone or iPad)... in summary, bypass iTunes and you can be successful... marginally successful.
Anyone know of a way to write an applescript that will switch iTunes' sound to AirTunes remote speakers?

Everything works perfectly. What I'd like is a suggestion on a make/model remote control (you know, like the tv remote you use every day) that will allow me to do simple operations in iTunes like Next Song, Back, etc.
I have the Apple Mac Mini remote control but it, by default, will not talk to my Windows hardware because there is no Infrared Port (as far as I know). It's not the easiest thing to google. I would assume I could find a Remote Control package that includes the Remote, an Infrared Receiver (that plugs in via USB), and some baseline software for under $30 somewhere.
It needs to be a USB port because I do not have an RS232 jack on my laptop (Dell Mini9). On a side note, I have to say, this setup I created is THE BEST way to stream iTunes music down to my stereo. I have tried numerous products for the past 10 years ranging from Tivo to Logitech's Squeezebox2 and nothing compares to simply 2 computers sharing iTunes. I got the Dell Mini9 for $302 to my door!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought the 2010 mac mini with the apple remote and I am very happy. I am having a little bit of trouble using the apple remote. Every time I turn on the mac mini I need to go to preferences and change the options of Candelair for the apple remote to work properly with Plex. I mean. I turn on the mac mini and the apple remote wont work absolutely. I need to get the magic mouse and go to preferences and change some options. It seems that this is the only way to "activate" the Plex functionality.
What I want is just to turn on the mac mini and immediately open Plex with the apple remote without needing to use the magic mouse or going to preferences. Is this possible? There must be a way to control the mac mini and Plex just from the start of Mac OS X. It gets very annoying to use the magic mouse along the apple remote. I turn on the mac mini and if I press the middle button (the one to open Plex with Candelair) nothing happens. As I say, I need to go to preferences and adjust the settings of Candelair and then it works. Why doesn't it work from the beginning?
I recently installed XP with bootcamp on my MacBook Pro. The big problem I'm having is that the internal speakers on my computer don't have sound coming out of them. (When I'm on windows) The volume control on my keyboard doesn't do anything, either. When I go to find my sound control, to make sure it's not muted or anything, I find that I can't even edit the sound controls. It says I don't have a device that can output sound, even though my internal speakers work fine on my mac desktop. It can't seem to find my internal speakers, when I try setting up a new device. I'm having a lot of trouble setting up internet on the XP as well, I just don't understand how to do it. (I've used mac all my life, I am really new to windows.) Basically, I have a wireless internet connection, I've got the router downstairs, and the information is handy. But I just don't know how to set it up, and I don't know what type of internet connection I want.

I use itunes for music and is connected to my stereo through my apple TV, I also have another stereo and is directly connected to the computer, I play the music simultaneously but sometimes I would like to be able to also listen to it in my macbook pro while being controlled through the mac mini connected to the stereo. I run a UMBP @ home and also have a work laptop connected to my LAN. I want to remote into my work laptop from my UMBP, but I am having trouble doing so. My work laptop has joint to the company domain and has Group Policy applied. However I made sure all the remote desktop firewall rules are open and I still can't remote into it. Work laptop is running Win7. My dad's pc is also a Win7 and I can remote into just fine.

I also have a NAS (Netgear SC101T) which I basically don't use anymore, thus I'll use the PC. I have two wireless routers so that function is of no value to me. So IMHO I don't need a Time Capsule.
I'd like to configure Time Machine to use the Windows networked drive as the "Time Capsule". Is this possible? If so, how do I do that? And how does that impact the Restore functionality if I'm not using the $300+ Time Capsule? Will it still restore a dead machine if it comes down to it?
I've got to a point where the HD on my MacBook is just too small to hold my music library, so for a while now, I've been housing it on an external drive hooked up to an Airport Express. My setup certainly isn't without its fair share of problems.
Setup: I keep my own folder structure, with folders for specific categories and playlists. iTunes's music folder structure has never been organized enough for me, so I don't use it. Another reason is I have music in my library that isn't in iTunes (since I don't frequently use it). My music library resides on an AirDisk, while my iTunes database along with some local music folders resides on my Mac.
Problems: Whenever I move songs/albums/playlists from the local storage on my Mac to my remote library, I have to go through and reselect the file location on the AirDisk for every file. I've also noticed that files on my AirDisk typically appear with an exclamation next to them, won't sync to my iPhone, and won't play in things like iTunes DJ unless I manually mount the AirDisk. Even then, iTunes only sees the specific song I clicked. iTunes still thinks other songs on the AirDisk are unavailable (even though the AirDisk is mounted), and thus skips them when playing unless I specifically click a song. Finally, whenever I move my music library around (like putting it on a NAS), I have to go through and manually change the location of each and every song!
All of these problems makes me think there has to be a better way! I've read about using iTunes to relocate the iTunes music library or database to a different disk, using the "Consolidate Library" feature and other built-in features, but it doesn't seem like any of these would work with a custom folder structure. I also know there are various 3rd-party "helper" apps available, but I haven't looked into them. Perhaps a 3rd-party app could simplify the process?
I've got to setup/configure three new iPad2's on the mac that I have which is already associated with an iPad2. I know that there is a way to have iTunes not sync/backup a new iPad 2 as I've done it before, but I cannot remember how to do it.

When I go into 'Computer' in Windows, I can see my Macintosh HD drive and most of its contents, some pics and other folders etc are all viewable and draggable into Windows. I just got a 27" iMac and love the remote app on my iPod touch but my girlfriend changes the songs constantly while I am on the computer and iTunes pops up every time she changes the song. Is there any way to change this so that iTunes doesn't pop up when she changes the song using her iPod or iPhone?

I bought a 5.1 set (a basic one without optical out) and I also bought the Muse pocket lt (usb soundcard) to plug in all my speakers at once. The soundcard is working perfectly but I want audio trough every speaker and not just the 2 front speakers. I wonder if there is a plugin for iTunes or OSX in general that makes the audio goes trough every speaker. It may sound stupit but the main reason I bought 5.1 is because I wanted speakers playing all around my room

I have iTunes 10.6.1 on my Macbook Pro and was using the multiple speakers feature with my 2 airport expresses very successfully until recently. Now when I try to use multiple speakers within iTunes it recognizes those speakers but can't connect. I've tried resetting both airport expresses but nothing. I have all the recent upgrades and haven't done anything out of the ordinary to change things up.
I also know it isn't the airport expresses because I have another product called Airfoil that streams music wirelessly from any source to those speakers via the airport express and that works fine. So it's definitely something specifically to do with iTunes.
One last thing, when I stream iTunes via the Airfoil I have no problems. So again, it's definitely something to do with iTunes.

Party tomorrow night. I can stream music from my Imac computer to Apple TV (attached to my hifi system).
I'd like to have the imac speakers (external speakers) playing at the same time as the applt TV speakers. Seems that's possible in itunes by simply selecting both speakers.... however....
There is a sync issue.
The Apple TV is probably 1/3 second out of sync with the imac. I'm going to hardwire the apple TV to the router (the Mac is already hardwired to a router) which should help.
I've tried wireless connection from Mac to router to Apple TV and it makes the delay worse. Seems I really need to somehow insert a delay the signal frmo the Mac to the Mac's external speakers....
Is that even possible or am I wasting my time thinking about using both speaker systems concurrently?

When I purchased my MacBook Pro, with Lion installed, several months ago, I set up the system with my name as administrator, using a form of my name which was different from that which I used on my old iMac. I then went through the migration process, transferring all my stuff from the iMac to my MacBook Pro. I then had two administrators in the MacBook Pro. As everything seemed to be working ok I recently deleted the original MBP administrator setup.Now, when I attempt to play a song in iTunes I get the message “There are no speakers connected to the AirPlay device’XxxxXxx’”. The name of the Airplay device referred to is my administrator name which is no longer in use and has now been deleted. In other words, iTunes seems to think it is linked to the administrator as set up when I first acquired the MacBook Pro, before migrating my setup from the iMac.The MacBook Pro speakers are working ok with other applications such as Safari and FaceTime.
