For a while I can highlight text and mark, etc but after I save the PDF it sometimes no longer allows me to highlight any text, even text I have already highlighted..
View 1 RepliesI'm in the middle of revision for exams and I'd like to be able to highlight certain portions of text in pages documents. Bold won't do, nor underline (they already have purposes). Can I highlight in Pages (say set a yellow text backgrond as I don't want to do print runs on my notes until I have to (and have reduced them down as much as possible).
As much as I love the tight integration of Spotlight, I miss one feature: I want to immediately have a look at the document that is found and be able to locate the search terms within (going from one place to the next). I am using Copernic Desktop Search on my PC and it immediately provides a preview of the search term in the document. Is there a similar free program for the Mac? I found Foxtrot, but it is 29$ just for the Personal Edition [URL:..]
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have noticed lately that as I am typing, the words will highlight and erase randomly. It makes it very hard and annoying to type when none of the words will stay. Do you know what the problem could be? This has never happened before to me.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I am running Firefox version 3.0.8 and when I go to highlight anything with my mouse (Like moving from left to right while holding down the button on my trackpad which should highlight the text) it highlights, but the whole window for Mozilla Firefox moves too, even if I have the text box in use, it does happen with other programs.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn safari for macbook pro, I can't seem to highlight text while scrolling down through to the end of a page. (Start at the top, click, hold, drag down). The highlighting stops at the bottom of what I see on the screen and can't go past to the bottom of the page. However, it works going upwards (start at the bottom, click, hold, drag up. I don't think it's a problem with the computer because, the highlighting works with all my other programs. It's just safari that's not doing it. I'm aware of the hold shift and click method, but I'm just used to the other way.

I have a few hundred Macs that are running anywhere between Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6 - 10.5.8 (Most are 10.5.8 but there are a few labs that require a lower OS version due to software). The computers range from iMac G5's, Mac Pro's & iMac Intel Core 2 Duo's.Our AD (Active Directory) has been setup using Windows Server 2003 & Windows Server 208 Network Setup All Macs are setup to log into the clients via the AD plug'n. Binding is smooth and we never have an error with binding. All computers are sorted and placed into the proper bins. When a user goes to login they put in their user ID/Password as if they were at a PC (Windows) desktop and the user is granted access to login.

View 17 Replies View RelatedSo I use Preview for taking notes in class. I just add text boxes on top of the slides and save it afterwards. It usually works great. But the last few PDFs, even though I type all the text correctly and save it before I close, I will reopen the PDF document later to find that every text box throughout the document has been turned sideways! It's really annoying to have to go back and individually turn the boxes right side up (if I just enlarge the textbox a little, the words align correctly). I'm using a MacBook Pro (pretty new) with Lion OS.

I've been having intermittent problems with the Preview app showing PDF files with either missing text or distorted fonts. The PDFs all display correctly if I use Adobe Acrobat (Reader or Professional). The one I can consistently get to malfunction is the PDF generated by the Postal Service label generator. The barcode always prints incorrectly by Preview, yet if I pull up that very same file in Adobe, it displays and prints just fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince I have installed SL, when I try to print to PDF from the print menu or save a PDF I'm viewing with Preview (for example) from a website, the text of the PDF is completely garbled/scrambled.
I don't have this problem when I use Acrobat 8 Pro only when I am using the OS PDF or saving and/or printing from Preview. I have cleared the font cache, but no solution.
I have a problem when saving a pdf using preview.Â
I create a document using Xelatex and the document works fine just after it is created, i.e. it looks good, it can be searched, etc. The problem comes when I save the document using preview. For example if I add a note, or highlight something and save the document, it automatically losses all text information.Â
It can still be opened and looks good, but it cannot be searched any more. In addition, if I try to copy a part of the text all I get are some strange characters that look like a small square with a face on it.Â
If I do the same procedure (i.e. open, highlight some text, and save) using pdf acrobat reader, the file is still readable both in acrobat and preview. It has to be fonts related, since it only happens when I use xelatex or latex with some specific fonts, but not with all of them.Â

I frequently use Preview to annotate PDFs and screen shots, and every time I add a text box annotation it is formatted to center the text in the box. Is there any way to change that so that text is aligned with the left side of the box?

I have several PDF docs with several annotations in them. When I show the sidebar in Preview it lists page, type, date, and author, but does not display the words in the annotations!With a long of annotations that only identify themselves by "Text", it's laborious to find the note one is looking for. (One has to manually step through each one at a time!)

In Windows XP/Vista, if you are navigating in a folder containing pictures, and you click any picture, it opens up Windows built in preview program. Much like OSX. However, in Windows, you can click "Next/Previous" within that program to quickly flip through those photos. Why do the up & down arrows in OSX not work? I still prefer my iMac to any PC I have owned, but this one little thing bugs me to no end. Is there a setting I can change somewhere to make that work like in Windows?

Trying to copy some songs from a USB Stick an iMac, they'll copy to the computer however when i try and add them to the iTunes library an error message comes up and says something along the lines of ' you cannot copy these files to 'HDD' due to insufficient Privileges' How can I get it to work
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought an mp3 and although the file plays in QuickTime or other media programs, the mp3 will not add itself into iTunes or even play it on either a Mac or PC. I've attached my settings (Windows, but my Mac settings in iTunes are the same) and I don't know what's wrong with this file.
It's frustrating because it's just an mp3 file (from everything I gathered from the meta tags/information) and I've never had any trouble adding files into iTunes by just double clicking on them but for some reason this is different.
I have a friend that just switched to the Macbook pro and Timemachine and I set them up with iChat using their MobileMe name and I was able to screen share while I was there and video chat later at home. Today she needed help so I was going to screen share from work but it comes back immediately as 'XX has declined your invitation'.
It does not even pop up on her side for authorization. I can type / text her in iChat and that works. I had her send me a 'Ask to share my screen' request which I got, then when I accepted it it failed.
I can turn right around and screen share with my wife at home so I know my side is working. Is there anything in the TimeMachine (used as router to cable modem) that could be causing this or some other setting I am missing? I will have to try from home later.
I thought it was odd that it says declined right away. I have secure connection turned on and it shows we are chatting securely.
we have recently purchased Microsoft Office for the Mac and installed it on my wife's macbook, replacing an old version. The reason was that the old copy used to block her use of it in university due to it saying that their were other users using it at the same time. So we installed it, waiting for it to ask for a product key but it didn't at any time...? Consequently now when my wife tries to use it in uni the same problem occurs.
We have product keys coming out of our butt from the original box but no way of entering them. I have tried to 'register online' with windows but the website simply isn't working.
When I plug an iPod Touch into my MBP or a PC, iTunes starts automatically. Is there way to make it such that iTunes doesn't automatically but rather, when I say to start it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy iTunes (the latest version on a MacBook Pro) is not allowing me to copy music from the library to an iPod. Most of the music is imported in, not purchased from iTunes. When I drag to load on to the iPod, it says "File Not Found" - I am guessing it is because it is a mp3 not a mp4? I am not sure how it cannot be found, when I can play the song in iTunes on my computer? Do I need to convert these song files to mp4? If so, what program can I use? I used to use AudioHub before it went away - I have since purchased a new machine and cannot access it any more.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOn a day-to-day basis I run: Adobe PS, INDD, and AI, Microsoft Entourage, Firefox and iTunes. Just recently, after an upgrade to Leopard, I added Things and Simplify Media to the list.The problem that happens before (on Tiger) and now (on Leopard) is command+tab switching stops functioning and Expose hot corners and shortcuts stop working.
I'm pretty sure this isn't a Finder crash because before, on Tiger, I could quit+restart Firefox and everything would be back to normal. Almost as if some shortcut had causes the system to act differently or there was some app dissonance?
But now, with Leopard, nothing I quit will cause these two features to act properly until I do a restart. Both features (command+tab switching and expose) are very necessary for my work flow. I have checked SysPref to make sure keyboard shortcuts are default and Univeral Access to make sure assisted devices is turned off.
I'm running into a odd issue in "preview." I'm currently looking at a long PDF document and I frequently use the "search" function to pinpoint specific sections of the doc. However, I noticed that the "search" function does not highlight (or find) any section that's highlighted in grey within the document. Does anyone know what I'm referring to and has anyone else run into this issue? I cannot find a setting for this. If anyone has any idea how to remedy this issue, please post the solution.
