As the title says... Keys Q to O are not working. I have removed the letter casing from a couple to check for dirt etc but no evidence and the buttons are also working fine.

Happened all of a sudden. I tried to restart, and now I am stuck at the login screen, as i can't type my password.
I suspect it to be some sort of accidentally triggered numlock like function.
When i hold down the fn key and pres 54 a symbol is entered (but i can't see which, as it is in my password box), and also when i hold fn and hit s and g simultaneously, the whole text is highlighted.

Macbook Air 11" - 2012 running Lion.
The period and the comma keys appear to be "dead" - not responding, also not when shift or other keys pressed simultaneous.
All other keys appear to function as usual. There was no prior incident - they simply stopped working all of a sudden.

I'm using the thin aluminum USB external keyboard and suddenly my 8ik, diagonal of keys stopped working (now I'm using my laptop keyboard). Anyone know if this is typically a sign of a broken keyboard, or a user issue?

I've been using my MacBook Pro for about 9 months now (and I love it), but suddenly some keys (enter, f11, disc-eject-key) won't press down properly. It's like there's something underneath it, preventing it from going down. I could have spilled breadcrumbs or something like that on the keyboard, but only in really small amounts; I try to eat and drink as little as possible with my MacBook around, 'cause I'm always afraid of spilling something in- or onto it. how to get rid of it? The keys still work, but I just don't like it this way.

I made a thread recently but the issue was resolved by a simple time machine backup. However, I've only recently discovered that the issue is still here, as I had to restart my macbook for updates, and now the cursor is at the exact same spot as before (top left corner), and refuses to move. The keyboard does not work. I am running 10.5.6 on a first gen macbook.
If I hold down option while booting, I can use the mouse + keyboard fine, its only when it goes to login that problems occur. It even works fine on Vista. I have tried external keyboards, etc, to no avail, which suggests that its more of an OS bug, rather than a hardware fault. That and it works fine before login. I'm considering restoring once more, then manually backing up and doing a clean install.

I can't backspace anymore. And just now, as I type this, I noticed if I press delete I -forward- delete, and I can still highlight text and delete it that way. How do I change the delete key to backspace? Also, my arrow keys used to move the cursor within text. now it just scrolls the page up and down.

So a friend spilled some liquids on his new macbook pro 13 5,5.Unibody The keyboard no longer worked, the hd was fried, so he gave it to me and switched to PC's . I replaced the HD, and connected an external keyboard.
Luckily nothing else was effected and it powered up. What I find strange is that the back light still works although NONE of the keys do. The power button and the trackpad still work as well.
I have accepted that I have to purchase a costly top case, but could i not just replace the keys?

I recently installed the firmware update for my MacBook and when I restarted the keyboard and mouse were both unresponsive. Even my USB wireless mouse wouldn't work. I am probably going to take it into an Apple Store tomorrow. Oh, and also I booted Windows and my trackpad and keyboard are working fine (How I'm writing this now). Being the retard I am I guess I might have held the power button down. I tried taking the battery out and holding the power key for 10 secs - no use. I tried turning the MacBook on and holding down select+command+P+R (constant boot) - no use.

A colleague of mine's MacBook Air (rev b) has suddenly started having an issue with its keyboard - the middle row of keys doesn't response. She has tried rebooting, etc, and the problem continues. No liquid has spilled on the keyboard, and there's no aesthetic reason.

I recently updated to Lion Server 10.7.4 on my MacMini 5,3 (Mid 2011). Now whenever I use Lion Recovery (Ctrl-R at boot), the keyboard does not function. The mouse cursor moves around, but clicking the mouse button has no effect. I am unable to run any of the utilities (recovery, disk utility, etc.) and I am forced to press the power button to turn off the computer.Â

I managed to get my hands on my new baby last Friday, new MBP 17" i7 with anti-glare! My wife also has a 2009 uMBP 13", which I have been using since Xmas while waiting for Arrandale! I use a stand with a apple wireless keyboard and wireless magic mouse. I have been having problems with the new 17" machine - the mouse and kb work fine for about 30 mins then the mouse gets really slow and jerky and the keyboard gets slow as well and starts displaying double / triple keys when typing etc. The only way to resolve the problem is to reboot. If I unpair the mouse and keyboard and repair this doesnt fix it - only a reboot works. I phoned apple care and they instructed to create a new test user, which I did - same problems.
Reinstalled OSX (machine was only 2 days old though!), and this didnt fix it. So, I took the machine back to my Apple Retail store and swapped it for a new machine. Finally finished setting it up again yesterday, and the problem started AGAIN - So it would seem that unless I have had two faulty machines (highly unlikely) it must be software related? I have been trying to work out what might be causing it - but running the machine without Parallels, Little Snitch, 1 Password, things which I thought could have been related to the problem. I basically ran the same system on my wifes 13" before I got the new machine and I had no problems with the mouse and keyboard. I have also changed the batteries on both the mouse and keyboard.

Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina running Mavericks 10.9.4 with all software updated.Â
A couple of days ago, I opened an image up in Preview only to find that the application would not respond to any clicks or keyboard shortcuts I made. If I were to hover over an icon on the top bar, it would recognize that I was doing that, but not do anything if I clicked on it. Ultimately, the only way to close the program to perform a force quit with Cmd-Opt-Shift-Esc or right-click on the dock and go to "Quit". It does not show up as not responding in the Force Quite menu, and the problem does not go away if I reboot the computer.
I've also experienced the problem in two other apps to date - the App Store and TextEdit. Both will act like they're perfectly okay until I actually go to click on something, in which case they won't respond at all. There's no spinning pinwheel or freezing - it just acts like nothing is happening. (For example, if I launch the App Store from my browser directly to an app page, the "Download" or "Purchase" button will highlight when you hover over it but cannot be pressed. I have launched it from Finder, as well, so it's not that contributing to it.)
These are the only apps I've noticed that are doing it, but they're all Apple apps. In contrast, Finder, iTunes, and Safari work as well as ever.

I have had my Mac Pro for a few years now, and I rewired the bluetooth module when I first got it. I then had Airport installed about 3 months ago, and had to rewire it again because the "geniuses" at Apple didn't know the wires were labeled incorrectly. I just moved my computer downstairs and my Apple Bluetooth keyboard is not working correctly. It lags, repeats letters, etc. Upstairs on one desk, it worked fine. Down here, on a different desk, It's acting up. My keyboard is on the left middle of the desk, and the computer is on the floor on the right side. Total distance is less than three feet, with a file drawer inbetween. It works if I put it in my lap, but not on the desk. I just opened it up to check the wires again, and they are tight, and right.

I updated to 10.6.4 the other day on my mbp 17" 2.93 mid 2009 model the other day. Since, my computer has developed two problems. first and most annoying, the keyboard doesn't work properly anymore. Shift keys don't work, then they do work. One side doesn't then the other side does. option and command do the same thing. Is this a documented problem? I searched and saw it was prior to 10.6.4, but I never had any problems until this update. Also, when I shut my computer, instead of going to sleep now. It goes crazy, fans jack up to full speed and it gets super hot. Doesn't sleep at all. Funny enough before the update, when i closed the lid the computer would go to sleep and wouldn't wake up.

What do you think? IMO it would be a nice subtle aesthetic change from the plastic EVERY keyboard has for the keys. They wouldn't be translucent either, black glass like the casing if iPhone 4.
