Applications :: Using Address Book - How To Separate Groups

Jul 17, 2010

At some point in time I must have chosen to group names. I have many customers, for instance, with the last name of Johnson and instead of each person having their own card, they all get grouped together within one card.

Any way to de-group these?

Applications :: Email Address - How To Get Rid Of First / Last Name

Nov 2, 2010

I want to take a list of email addresses from my address book on the mac and use them for another application. When I try, the mac automatically puts the person's first and last name in the address field, in addition to their email address. Is there a way to get rid of the first/last name so only the addresses come up?

I feel stupid for even asking this because it seems like something I'd normally be able to figure out but I've searched a bit with no results. Oddly enough, this only seems to have become an issue since the 10.6.4 update. In Mail, I can't seem to set the default email address to be used when composing a new email.

Applications :: PIM For Mac That Integrates Calendar / Address Book / Email / To Dos?

Oct 14, 2009

Like Outlook, but not Outlook And not Entourage. I tried it and it's sooooo slow and does not have nearly the feature set of Outlook. I know outlook is coming to Mac with the next Office release, but I can't wait that long. Perhaps it's just being a lifelong Windows user and being tethered to Outlook for the past 10 years or so. I have been using the native Mac tools (Mail, iCal, Address Book) since I got my MBP about three months ago and I'm getting frustrated. They are all perfectly good independent apps and they do integrate nicely, but they just aren't as powerful as what I want. Especially in the to-dos category - way too wimpy for me! Moreover, I am really tired of having to flip between apps and have 3+ windows open for something I am used to being able to see in a single window. In a perfect world, I'd like it to have iPhone sync as well, but if I can at least get something better on my desktop, that would be better than nothing.

I must point out I'm an absolute new switcher from XP. Delighted with the Macbook Air but bewidered by the software. Really, I cannot believe it's not possible to have multiple email accounts.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Email Address Requires Host Name In Address Field

May 5, 2012

I'm trying to setup mail on Lion Sever (7.3). The only way I can get it to accept incoming mail is to specify the whole FQDN of the server in the address. For example the domain name is example.com and I have a user set up called john. Sending mail to john@server.example.com works.

But sending mail to john@example.com (which is what I want) returns an error:
554 554 5.7.1 <john@example.com>: Relay access denied (state 13).

For internal DNS, I have:
example.com - primary zonemail.expample.com - alias server.example.comserver.example.com - 192.168.1.2 [URL] - alias server.example.com MX record [URL]

I see references here to problems in mail on 7.3 but not this specific problem.

Applications :: Mail App Messing Up Reply Address For Simple Email Addresses

Mar 25, 2010

When an email comes to me with the following looking "From" field:

From: <person@company.co.uk>

That's with greater than and less than character at the start and end of it. It messes up the reply address.

When I reply to one of these emails Mail.app sets the "To:" field to be:

"person@company.co.uk> <person@company.co.uk" <person@company.co.uk>

When it should just be:

To: person@company.co.uk

Anybody get this behaviour?

Incidentally, you can search for these kinds of simple emails in Mail.app by searching in "All Mailboxes"/"From" for:

> <

That's greater than, space, less than.

Through the years I've clicked this, over and over: "If you prefer not to receive commercial email from Apple, or if you've changed your email address, please click here." I'm trying to detect a pattern. I suspect that every time our family buys a new apple product we are hit with advertisements. I recently bought a new iPod Touch. I wonder if this is why the offer from apple to leave me alone fails, over and over.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Two Separate Time Machine Backups / Use To Create Two Separate Profiles On One New Computer

Mar 31, 2012

I have an iMac 27 (end of year 2009) I5.It has 1 TB internal and I want to replace it with a 2 TB internal. I have time machine backups on an external hard drive that has been connected via Firewire. I have another iMac (my son's)Imac 24 Intel Core 2 Duo that has it's own separate Time machine backup to it's own separate firewire connected external drive. Both machines are completely up to date with the latest version of Lion and all other necessary software updates. When the internal hardrive is replaced - I want to use my latest time machine backup to create one profile on the imac and then use my son's latest time machine back up for a second profile. The end goal being to have everything from my current set up ie: apps, documents, itunes, etc existing in one profile and everything in my son's current set up existing in the other profile. We can both be administrators for the time being as well.I should note even though we both have some of the same apps, we both also have other apps that the other does not.

My profile will be using about 900 gigs of total space. My son's profile will be using about 250 gigs of total space. This is temporary until the new iMac is released. Then I will want to transfer my profile to that leaving my son's intact on the iMac 27 I5.I realize that during the temporary period that Time Machine will be making backups of this entire two profile setup, which I am now understanding as I write this will create a new issue for me when I want to transfer only my profile to the new computer as well. But one bridge to cross at a time, I guess.I need to do this because we must bring his current computer to my father - as his iMac G5 is inoperable. We have been doing this round robin hand me down in our family since IMac DV special edition :-)
