I have some material on my Mac which I want to crop (I don't need the whole video). iMovie and Premiere Pro don't seem to open the whole folder, and Googling only gives me results with AVI/MPEG etc.

Is there a way I can crop my movies before importing it into iMovie. I have a long video on my recorder and I only need like 30 seconds of it, I don't want to have to import the whole movie (it's HD, so it'll take a while). Is there a quicker way to do this? If iMovie can't, just out of curiosity, can more advanced programs like Premiere Pro or FCE/FCP do this?

Everything I've found in the forums suggests ways I can change printing options, but since I'll be sending the photo out digitally, I'd like to know how to save the image in this size.
I don't have Photoshop (except for PS Express), and when i use iPhoto's "Custom Size" option to set it to 2x2, it looks to me like it's still in a rectangular shape. When I save it as a "Square" it turns into a square, but a square that fills the page. Are there any other options that I have?
I used quicktime X to screen record a skype video chat and im trying to crop it so that theres just the skype window and not my desktop. I used imovie and did this but the video quality is terrible when i export it (shadows are like flcikers of grays). Im wondering if theres a way to do this to keep te exact video quality ( when importing to imovie i clicked keep original quality but still turned out terrible after i exported it) or to simply crop the video i need out of the movie.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI currently use fairmount to strip off the encrypto,but after that it takes FOR EVER to have it spin up the dvd all the way it needs to in order to rip the dvd.I am using either dvd2onex or mac the ripper, but since fairmount is taking so long when i start to rip the video _ts folder to the hrddrive, it causes my movies to stutter, and even bounce around when i go to make a handbrake backup!what other apps will allow you to rip the video_ts folders from your own dvd's?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to backup a few of my rare DVDs that I have. I used RipIt to rip the DVD and now I have a folder with VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS in it. What freeware can I use to burn these to a DVDR so that it plays in any DVD player? I tried DVDRemaster too and I'm having the same issue. The file size is small enough to fit on a single layer DVDR.

I copied the files onto a USB and tried to open/import them onto my new Intel Core 2 Duo, 3.06 GHz iMac. However my new iMac with iMovie '09 won't recognise the files when I try to import them. They stay greyed, not allowing me to import them.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a project file that was created using iMovie 5 HD. In this project file were a large number of unused clips and also the final film, edited with transitions, backing music, end credits, etc.
However when I import this project file into iMovie 8 I cannot find the final edited film anywhere, just all the clips that were both used and unused within the project file.
How can I get the final film back without spending about a week re-editing everything?
I will have to spend $60 ($30 for me and $30 for my 93-year-old dad) just to crop off the beginning and end of the MP4 videos that we load onto our PCs from our new Kodak cameras. (The cameras were only $65 each, which was the only reason I could afford them.)Bought the cameras for myself and my dad this spring, but most of our videos are of wildlife and pets. That means waiting before and after the animal does something interesting, and that means cropping the beginning and end. With our old Kodak cameras (videos were .mov format) we could do that with basic QuickTime, but not anymore.Apparently gotta go Pro just to make basic cuts.
Actually, I don't expect Apple to give away everything free, and wouldn't mind paying something for basic editing options.But Pro isn't basic, and it isn't cheap, especially considering I'd have to pay for it twice.IMO, Apple should offer a cheaper version that just does the basics.

So i've recently gotten in the uploading to YouTube craze with my Flip Mino HD but i'm not too happy at the way i've been doing this and am hoping there is an easier way.
As of late i've been importing what i film into iMovie. In iMovie i'll edit the video to my liking. In iMovie i'll "export" to the media browser so it'll show up in GarageBand. Then i'll open GarageBand and edit my film further, dealing with sound; adding music. After that i'll export it as a .MOV to my desktop. Then i'll open iMovie again and import that .MOV file and from there in iMovie will have it upload to YouTube in its original HD format.
I would like to shorten & save a song and then use it on FB or as a stand alone.

So, I have all of my imovie projects backed up on my external harddrive, as well as the imovie program. I accidentally deleted all of the imovie projects and events from the imovie application on my laptop. When I try to re-import the imovie files into imovie, it doesn't recognize the files. I have tried to convert them with iSkySoft Video Converter. That converter program does not recognize the files either. I also tried burning the files onto a disc and then pulling them off the disc with the Handbrake program. This doesn't work either. I also tried importing the files into iMovie HD, which I have on my desktop, but to no avail. Are these files alll useless now? I'm at my wits end because I have spent literally months compiling footage for a documentary.

I typically use handbrake to rip my DVDs, but as far as I know, I can only create AVI's and MKV's from Handbrake (correct me if I'm wrong). I also really like having the VIDEO_TS file intact on my computer, so that I can still access the DVD's menus, special features, etc. Sometimes I am able to just copy the VIDEO_TS file directly off the DVD to my desktop, but sometimes it says that I "do not have the permissions" to do so.... or something along those lines. I understand that most DVDs are protected so you can't just copy them, but it seems that my computer allows me to copy the VIDEO_TS sometimes and not others. And this is with the SAME DVD.

I have managed to burn the .avi straight onto the DVD, but this means that I cannot view it in DVDPlayer.app because it needs a VIDEO_TS folder. I have been trying to backup a few .avi files I have onto DVDs and after reading over the forums I have aquired ffmpegx and Toast 8. I place the avi file into ffmpex, encode it with the dvdffmpeg format. But once i burn it with toast, it takes the original wide screen avi file and stretches it to full screen.
I tried re-encoding with the DVD 16:9 setting selected with ffmpeg and it seems to look better in a preview, but when I try and burn the Video_TS folder in Toast it gives me the CSS Encryption disk error, which I do not understand because I'm not copying a copyrighted dvd.
