View 11 RepliesI live in a hall at a university and they ban anyone who uses more than 5gb of bandwidth in a day. 48h first time. 14 day for the second time, and then forever.... I was banned for the first time 5 min ago and I realized a badly need a software that alerts me when I get to, let's say, 4gb and then stops the network when I get close to the limit. I wasn't able to find such an application for mac os x

I have read there is something built into OSX that can do this at the command line level (ipfw or something?)
I am looking for a way to limit bandwidth per application under Mac OS X Lion ; either with a dedicated app or Terminal command.
I didnt find any tools with Google or App Store : does that mean "limiting bandwith" is a *bad* idea ?

At the moment i'm sharing a house while waiting for some prety serious repair work to be done on mine. therefor im sharing an ADSL line, but its only 568Kbps (ish) and i dont want to use more than my fair share of the somewhat limited bandwidth. Dose anyone know of an app that i can use on my iMac to set a maximum upload and download speed for my connection.

Does anyone know of any application that will allow me to see details on how my bandwidth is being used? For example, I'd like to be able to track how much data I use when streaming Netflix (via a wired connection to my AirPort Extreme), browsing the web (wirelessly), or making a Skype call.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have to run a C program on terminal as fast as possible. However, there seems to be a cpu usage limit for the terminal, the program supose to run around 15 seconds on a linux machine with similar configuration where cpu usage is at 85-95%. But, it runs one minute on my macbook pro with cpu usage less than 15%. Finally, my question is, how do I utilize all of the 85% idle cpu for this program or at least most of the idle cpu?

ive been looking an application which shows traffic per applications. i have installed istat menus and sometimes the traffic goes up and i dont know which application is downloading/using.
im possibly looking for a freeware/GPL .
I am able to monitor my wireless network no problem using something as simple as iStat pro but, for example, my xbox is connected to the router via ethernet cable so doesn't appear on any of the apps I have for found for monitoring network traffic. Is there an app that i can use to monitor the source i.e. the router itself, to see what speed/bandwidth the ethernet ports are using?

View 15 Replies View RelatedIve been calling comcast over and over telling them that they have been throttling my internet's upload speed to the mid 40kbps range and they tell me no they havent. Finally they have been exposed in the past week, but they claim it is only to bit torrent traffic. This is not the case. I cant video chat for more than a minute or two before my internet gets throttled and the other person cant see me. The same goes for file transfers to a remote server for my graphic design stuff. Does anyone know a work around for this? Maybe changing the outgoing ports for iChat?
View 24 Replies View RelatedIs there a software to monitor the Bandwidth consumption for Mac.
I use Bandwidth Monitor Pro for Windows and its good. But I guess they do not have it Mac.
Activity Monitor does a good job of showing the current speed and the total amount of data downloaded / uploaded, but thats just good for one session.
I am looking for some software that helps me view this information over a period of time.
I get most of my TV viewing done online these days. I watch a lot of hulu, [URL], etc. This has been great so far, but there is a looming problem. Many ISPs are moving toward bandwidth caps. Comcast allows 250GB, and I believe Charter will be rolling them out soon. My ISP (AT&T) doesn't have them yet, but I believe they will soon. Does anybody know of an app that will let me monitor just how much stuff I am downloading/streaming? I am really curious to see how big all this cool online video gets.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running the latest iStat Menus (2.0) on Snow Leopard 10.6.2. All the displayed data shows just fine with the exception of the Network (bandwidth) menu. The graph does not reflect bandwidth being used and the "KB/s" displays a constant "0.0KB/s." I've tried rebooting and I've also tried manually selecting "Airport" in the General Settings in iStat Menus' Preference Pane.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
(iStat Pro, the widget version of this program, displays the bandwidth data though.)
I'm looking for an app for my mac which can test my ADSL download speed automtically at regular intervals through the day and log the results for me to look over later.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically I recon that even with 120mbps internet, streaming from iTunes to Apple TV 3 still suffers from serious lag. So I thought what if I could make sure that iTunes is the only process connecting to the internet while streaming, thus giving it 100% of the available bandwidth.

I've used Handbrake to encode several movies. Because I wanted them as "lossless" as possible they were encoded used H.264 (and are m4v files) and are in the 7-8GB range.
I'm not actually importing the movies but just pointing iTunes to the drive they sit on. For some reason it won't add them to the iTunes library. What gives? Is there a file size limit?
Is there a size limit for importing an Excel File into Numbers? The error message says the file is too large. Has this been changed in i-work 09? The file has multiple sheets that refer to each other, but i can't even open at this point. It is 3.1 MB.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo the latest beta is apparently 64-bit to begin with. I've also noticed that it uses more RAM than the previous (beta) versions, which is quite disappointing. It now uses up even more RAM than Safari!! Has anyone else noticed that?
I also don't like the the new "page loading" status because it doesn't tell much - seems like a copy of Chrome's too. I preferred how it was in the previous beta version.
Right now my processors are pinned at 99 and 100% and a look at Activity Monitor shows 6 processes, relating to my safari boot page.. you know with the small web shot pages... Strange thing is that the temp and fans are not going up... The processes are called Safari Webpage Preview.

I use to have about 20 tabs open all the time, but this is not the case in c2d cpu, I think.
So, when so many things (osx, addons versions, ff versions) changes, I really do not know what else to search for, in order to make my firefox have a normal cpu usage.
I have white macbook c2duo 2GHz.After last iTunes update it still consumes about 60% of CPU whe running. If I say running i mean that it's not playing any music. Library Sharing is off. I was trying to find out something but i had no luck. Only I can say is that the same thing is occuring on my friend "Old" Macbook Pro (intel c2duo) but not on any iMac or Unibody Macbook i have seen.

When I run the programme, however, my machine noticeably slows down.)
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I just got a look at the Logic Studio 2 Package and was a really interested in MainStage. I play a Gibson Les Paul 1957 Standard and an ESP Horizon FR-II. I currently only have one guitar effect pedal and a large Crate amp - those I am planning on upgrading until I saw MainStage. I saw some videos that you can select different model amps and effects to use live and for recording.
What would be the ideal device to get so I could plug my guitar in? Is there a pedal board I could use to program and change effects in MainStage?
