Applications :: HDTV Calibration Software Or Online?
Mar 9, 2009
Here's one that I haven't been able to find yet.
I watch Tekzilla - a podcast at revision3.com and Systm - also by them, and they do a lot of tech shows on HDTV and getting the most out of your HDTV.
Recently one of them (Systm i think) did a show about calibrating your HDTV. They used a THX menu from a Pixar DVD to run through the optimization of their TV for Brightness, Color, Tint, Sharpness, etc.
I"ve been looking for something that I can use from a Website, or a piece of Software that will help me do this with my PC or Mac hooked up through the HDMI on the back of my HDTV.
I have everything connected and working to display my MBP to my Sony Bravia HDTV. I am using the TV as a second display. When I choose full screen for my iTunes movie, it goes black. The iTunes movie plays in reduced screen. Does anyone have a solution how I can play full screen?
I will be starting my own business soon, providing various IT aspects for the SME market (up to 100 employees) anything ranging from technical support, to SEO and basic web design / development, including branding. Just wondering what tools you use for your business and how you are getting on with them, could be apple apps or online tools. Normally, I am a Windows guy for "business" but only because I use MS for servers and so on.
This is what I have so far; Freshbooks for accounting Basecamp for project management Evernote for receipts/ideas/snips of text Drop box for backup / online storage of documents Quicksilver Skype

I'm currently looking into online backup solutons for my macbook. I intend to keep backups of all my photo's and home movies.
I've looked into and trialed the following
Mozy - The upload to the web feature worked fine, but when i tried to restore a few files it took ages. It took nearly 4 hours to download a 700mb file which had uploaded in less than 10 minutes. My broadband is cable and is 10mb so i am able to achieve a download speed of around 1mb's
JungleDisk - I really really wanted to try this as the pricing was great and the service looked fantastic. However, seeing as i'm in the UK and don't have a credit card i am unable to persue this any further. FOr some reason Amazon S3 don't accept visa debit cards.
Dropbox - I love this service, however I fully understand that this is a syncing service and not a backup service. If i was able to only upload documents and not have them automatically download to my other machine's or work machine then that would be great.
Is there a way in mac OS X, either by a third party app, or something, that would let me listen to online radio stations? Either a safari or firefox plugin?
Since today, I cant login with any online messenger out there. I tried the whole lot, about 10 or so. They al can't seem to make a connection with the internet. Internet seems to be working fine though, since transmission, limewire and firefox are all up and running.
I'm currently using eBuddy for the time being, but I'd really like a solution for my problem. I've deleted some preference files, but this didn't change anything.
P.S.: If you were to spot some faults/incorrections in this post, please notify, I'm Dutch and would love to improve my language skills.
I just used the ical calibration tool to sync ical up with my google calendar and it works like a charm. I love how i can just click on dates in Mail and add them to my iCal which then pushes i to google calendar for my wife to see...that way i can sneak tennis or a round of golf in and she can't say she didn't know
At any rate-i would like to know if there's a way to pull her cal stuff to my ical. I can see all of her stuff on my google calendar, but i dont have the "right" to add her account to ical. I assume i could just have her enter in her login info - but i would like to know if that's the best way.
So I am trying to download a video, which is online only and I was wondering if there is any way to do that? I have a slow internet and it would be nice to have it on my computer so I can watch it whenever i want it. Here is the link, for other videos you have to pay so I am guessing they disabled any sort of ways that let people to download them but maybe there is a software that would let me download this videos. Does anyone know of such things?
I have an iMac 17" G5 1.6 intel with 2 Gb of RAM. I can watch videos with no problem unless I try to watch one online such as Youtube or something like a video on Fox news. I have a highspeed cable modem hookup through Cox Cable. I have tried switching between the airPort and direct ethernet hookup but is makes no difference. I don't have this problem with my MacBook Pro.
So, I am applying for a job at Staples (low I know, but I'm starting grad school in the fall so hopefully it will get better), but to search their jobs and access their online application you need to you either Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator....
Not even PCs really use those anymore! Since I have a mac, I do not have access to either of these browsers. I feel like I should boycott applying to Staples just for this.
Is there some sort of free app I can download to make Safari or Firefox be compatible like Explorer? Or do I need to go and borrow a friend's computer?
Is anyone else having this problem? At first I thought it was me, but then my friend says he's getting the same thing. What could the reason for this be, and is there any way to fix it?(ps. I have of course checked to make sure the relevant boxes are ticked in preferences)
Gmail Users: Do you access your gmail only online, or do you use Apple Mail? I've been using Apple mail for my Gmail for a few years now (IMAP). However, I didn't realize how messed up it left my Gmail online (Tabs are a mess, mail messages are getting lost). I'm considering going back to online Gmail, but I also liked how Apple mail played nice with the iphone (since there's no Google GMAIL app for the iphone). So, let me know how you access your Gmail!
New Mac user and just switched from several years of PC usage. My question is regarding importing Clip Art into any Office 2008 product. Previously on my PC I had the ability to choose an "online" search option and I could just insert any clip art straight from online into my Office products (PowerPoint, Word, etc). It seems that now, I have to click on the "online" button which directs me to the Microsoft clipart site, then select an image, choose "download", and then import that image into my gallery to use it. Is there not a way to automatically have these items go online to search anymore? If not, any other suggestions apart from having to click so many times to get a usable image? In addition, a further problem with going online and downloading, it does not appear to retain the key words used for future searching even after going through the steps of downloading an image. So if I download a football or something, it just goes in my "favorites" folder with no further info like a keyword of "Football", "Sports", etc. I'm very frustrated as I'm a teacher and often use these clipart images and what was previously so easy with Office for PC, seems to be such a hassle now.
I'm using adium, and its great. But, sometimes when i add a new contact it doesn't seem to send an invitation and neither do i get an invitation when some people add me. I mean everything goes normal when adding a contact. but they never come online, while in real they are.
I have a new mac and mail set up fine from the start. However late last week I was checking around in my comcast.net account and say that all the emails I had deleted on the mac over the last few weeks were still in my inbox online.
A radio station that I listen to on-line has switched from a Flash-based player to a Silverlight-based player. Classic FM (in the UK) even have a handy 'How to listen' guide for Macs which talks about their Flash player, but when I click to launch it I get a message telling me to install Silverlight. Is there any way that I can listen to the station on my Mac without installing Silverlight.
I want an explanation to my quicktime streaming problem every 6 months I wait for the Apple Conference and I do not watch it live, but wait till the next day. I click on the stream on Apple's website and it starts but it hangs up and would play for a second then stop then load again the next second. The screen does not change, its the first thing that comes up with black background and white writing. My Macbook is a month old. My dsl is 4/mbs, I tried to change the connection speed to 384/kbs, shut down instant play and put it on long delay, nothing works. Every other stream works fine, the only thing I face a problem with is Apple Conferences. About two years ago the Apple conference wouldn't hang up and it would stream beautifully and my connection was 1/mbs on a 800 mhz IMac?
I have created a website using my iWeb application, but I cannot figure out how to get it up and running through my host. I have an account with justhost.com, and they claim it is an easy process to get iWeb sites online through them, but I have tried and still can't figure it out.
I have been using Adium for years, previously on my iBook and now on my new MacBook without any problems. Recently, it stopped working. I use my AIM and Jabber screennames on it. When I open it, it shows that I am connected and online. However, it tells me that none of my buddies are online, even though they are. My friends have also told me that I don't appear on their Buddy lists even when my Adium tells me I'm online.
I downloaded the latest version of Adium and this didn't help. It still does it. As far as I know, it's only the AIM that isn't working. I think the Jabber still works, but I am not positive. This also occasionally happens with my AIM app on my iPod Touch when it happens on my Adium. I am assuming this means there is something wrong with my AIM screenname and not necessarily with Adium? Do you think getting a new AIM screenname would help? It's definitely just the AIM that isn't working. Jabber works fine.
So I love the iPhoto "ken burns" slideshows, and I had created a cute one set to the "Linus and Lucy" theme song. However, when I exported it to a .mp4 and uploaded it to YouTube to share on my site, I got the "copyright" warning and the audio is disabled. So anyone know what the copyright limits are as far as slideshows are concerned? What's the point of allowing us to use it if we can't share it? I also noticed that the quality is degraded due to compression... would it be better just to make my own slideshow in iMovie and share that instead (quality-wise)? Or is there a better way to share the slideshow?
I already have my monitor calibrated to more-or-less match online photo labs that I use through Flickr. However, I just bought a HP C7280 and all my pictures seem to come out very low on the magenta/red side. Rather than having to either recalibrate my monitor and edit all the thousands of pictures I have to warm them up, is there any way that I can just calibrate the printer to print a bit 'redder'?
