May 22, 2010I'm looking for an online backup service at around $5 a month, where I can backup my Aperture library (50+ GB).So far I've tried these - and I don't like them...Mozy: It's all good, until restore. Then it sucks.Backblaze: Exclusion-based backup. Really cumbersome to exclude all folders on my Mac when I only need Aperture library to be backed up...iDrive: Bandwidth throttling doesn't work, they call it "auto-pause" and even while set to 25%, it still uploads with all my ADSL connection can do - making surfing terrible.
Keepit: No bandwidth throttle at all. Crashplan: Too much "in the background" - no menubar icon or anything else to keep an eye on. The app doesn't feel Mac native at all, I guess it's in java (I can live with it, but it makes me feel like they only do a Mac version so they can say "Mac's supported"). Carbonite: I've heard it's pretty bad, so I haven't tested it yet.So far Crashplan is my preferred choice but it's not one I'm happy with. I'll have to see how it does with a 50gb backup/restore process first though,

Mar 24, 2009Been trying different online backup programs, but hit a glitch when installing programs.SafeCopy gives me an - Install Failed - The Installer could not write the receipt for "safecopyPostflight".I also get a could not write Receipt Error, when I try to install Carbonite.I called Tech Support for both companies, they had others that had same problems, but other than wipe the drive and start with a fresh OS X install, offered no solution.

Jan 20, 2010I saw this article that one can fax with a mobile phone via bluetooth in 10.4:[URL]Pretty cool, except I have 10.5 and the directions don't work in 10.5. (There's no "advanced" selection when you option-click "More Printers".) I do see that 10.5 has a utility to add a bluetooth fax, which I went through, but couldn't get to work. (At no point did it ask to connect with my bluetooth phone.)

Sep 25, 2010I am new to the imac and notice there is no data/fax modem. I do scan documents and fax to recipients at times and have done seamlessly with my pc. Now it is time to move on and get on track with the imac. I have already had to replace my samsung scx 4100 multifunction, a loyal and robust item, mac dont support it. I have a scx 4500 coming soon. Surely in this day and age there must be some way of sending a fax from a computer that cost nearly ?2000. I have seen usb fax dongles for sale on ebay and other normal 56k external usb modems.....but what is the cost effective way forward

May 14, 2012I have Lion and the old fax program I was using (PageSender), which will not upgrade for use with Lion. I am going back to using the built-in fax option that Mac has in the Printer functions. Is there a way to create and use a custom fa cover sheet? Or am I relegated to jus the simple text the printer window opens with? And, ues, I do need to have a fax - no everyone, especially the older folks that are clients for our business, are using email, or even using computers. That means to service all of my clients, I must fax.

Jan 16, 2009I'm currently looking into online backup solutons for my macbook. I intend to keep backups of all my photo's and home movies.
I've looked into and trialed the following
Mozy - The upload to the web feature worked fine, but when i tried to restore a few files it took ages. It took nearly 4 hours to download a 700mb file which had uploaded in less than 10 minutes. My broadband is cable and is 10mb so i am able to achieve a download speed of around 1mb's
JungleDisk - I really really wanted to try this as the pricing was great and the service looked fantastic. However, seeing as i'm in the UK and don't have a credit card i am unable to persue this any further. FOr some reason Amazon S3 don't accept visa debit cards.
Dropbox - I love this service, however I fully understand that this is a syncing service and not a backup service. If i was able to only upload documents and not have them automatically download to my other machine's or work machine then that would be great.

Apr 13, 2010Since today, I cant login with any online messenger out there. I tried the whole lot, about 10 or so. They al can't seem to make a connection with the internet.
Internet seems to be working fine though, since transmission, limewire and firefox are all up and running.
I'm currently using eBuddy for the time being, but I'd really like a solution for my problem. I've deleted some preference files, but this didn't change anything.
P.S.: If you were to spot some faults/incorrections in this post, please notify, I'm Dutch and would love to improve my language skills.

Sep 3, 2010Now I know that a lot of people have had this problem in the past but I'm hoping that maybe someone will have a solution now that actually fixes this problem.When I attempt to sign in I get the error message "Sign in to Microsoft Messenger failed because the service is not responding. The service is not available or you may not be connected to the internet."
I've tried deleting every trace of msn and reinstalling it, Which did not work. I've also tried upgrading to msn 8 beta (Which incidentally crashes when I try to open it) and downgrading to 6.0.3. Neither of these fixed the problem. I've tried resetting my router, which had no effect. I've tried disabling proxies but it turns out I don't have any so that's not the problem. I've looked at the firewall but msn is not blocked.
Other clients such as amsn and adium are not experiencing the same problem. Msn is working fine on my macbook and other windows machines in my household. It is just my Imac that seems to be having the problem.I have scoured the internet and nothing I have found has been of any use.

I have a slow internet and it would be nice to have it on my computer so I can watch it whenever i want it. I watch Tekzilla - a podcast at revision3.com and Systm - also by them, and they do a lot of tech shows on HDTV and getting the most out of your HDTV.
Recently one of them (Systm i think) did a show about calibrating your HDTV. They used a THX menu from a Pixar DVD to run through the optimization of their TV for Brightness, Color, Tint, Sharpness, etc.
I"ve been looking for something that I can use from a Website, or a piece of Software that will help me do this with my PC or Mac hooked up through the HDMI on the back of my HDTV.

Mar 16, 2009I have an iMac 17" G5 1.6 intel with 2 Gb of RAM. I can watch videos with no problem unless I try to watch one online such as Youtube or something like a video on Fox news. I have a highspeed cable modem hookup through Cox Cable. I have tried switching between the airPort and direct ethernet hookup but is makes no difference. I don't have this problem with my MacBook Pro.

May 22, 2009So, I am applying for a job at Staples (low I know, but I'm starting grad school in the fall so hopefully it will get better), but to search their jobs and access their online application you need to you either Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator....
Not even PCs really use those anymore! Since I have a mac, I do not have access to either of these browsers. I feel like I should boycott applying to Staples just for this.
Is there some sort of free app I can download to make Safari or Firefox be compatible like Explorer? Or do I need to go and borrow a friend's computer?

Jan 26, 2010New Mac user and just switched from several years of PC usage. My question is regarding importing Clip Art into any Office 2008 product. Previously on my PC I had the ability to choose an "online" search option and I could just insert any clip art straight from online into my Office products (PowerPoint, Word, etc). It seems that now, I have to click on the "online" button which directs me to the Microsoft clipart site, then select an image, choose "download", and then import that image into my gallery to use it. Is there not a way to automatically have these items go online to search anymore? If not, any other suggestions apart from having to click so many times to get a usable image? In addition, a further problem with going online and downloading, it does not appear to retain the key words used for future searching even after going through the steps of downloading an image. So if I download a football or something, it just goes in my "favorites" folder with no further info like a keyword of "Football", "Sports", etc. I'm very frustrated as I'm a teacher and often use these clipart images and what was previously so easy with Office for PC, seems to be such a hassle now.
