View 4 RepliesI am working on a Mac Powerbook with OS 10.5.8. I thought I was confused, but when I use MS Word I could not locate certain functions. I discovered that when I open a new document the TOOL functions (between FONT and TABLE) located on the top of the screen disappears. As soon as I hit the button to open the new document it leaves the screen. It is there before I open the new document. I am not talking about the TOOLBOX. I have no problems with that. TOOLS includes things such as spelling check, creating envelopes etc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use the Dvorak keyboard layout on my MacBook Pro, but like to use the Dvorak-Qwery Command option, which means that Cmd+* uses the Qwerty layout (When I try to use Dvorak for Cmd, I always end up pressing Cmd+Q when I don't mean to).
This works great in every app I've tried so far, except for one: Microsoft Word (and possibly the other Office apps as well). Initially, I dismissed it as a problem with Word 2004, and figured it would be fixed in 2008. I was mistaken - kind of.
I need a word processor for Snow Leopard that will read and write to the .doc and .rtf formats. I had NeoOffice but it is basically far from ready for prime time. It will not format picture inserts properly and dropped two out of three pages of my document when I saved it. Yes, I did have the Snow Leopard upgrade for it.

I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.7 i am working on Word 2008 for Mac, version 12.0.1 (080305).
My problem, i created one text box in a document, somehow 2 more appeared. I made the mistake of thinking that to delete the extra text boxes, i simply highlight them and delete them. Silly stupid me, nothing that simple exists and i have wasted an hour trying to figure it out. The help button does squat, barely gives you any info on a text box much less trying to delete it. Does anyone know how to delete a text box in a word document?
i'm looking at moving over to the Mac in a couple days and i just need to know the best free Word Processor that can open .doc files. 99% of my docs made in Word are of the 97-2003 variety and not 2007's .docx.
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy university wants us all to use RTF files. As I am sure you all know text edit sucks. But it automatically opens all my RTFs.I have to manually get word to open them which is a pain in the ass.How can I fix this so that all RTF's are automatically opened by WORD?I am still on the old version of word because I have to use ENDNOTE - which has no support for Word 2011 right now. I have a copy of 2011 sitting on my desk and I am itching to use it, but I will loose 200+ citations if I do.
View 2 Replies View RelatedPerhaps this has been answered before but nothing turned up in my search. I'm a Mac convert switching from MS XP, where I was using Word 2007. Over time, I compiled several special dictionaries. If I switch to Office 2008 for Mac will I be able to transfer these from Word 2007?
I understand that Word for Mac does not ahve VBA support, therefore no macros like in Word 2007. Does office 2008 (Word) have some sort of macro capability.
I have a MacBook. Last week I bought Microsoft Office for Mac. I would like to open documents sent in Word to be opened in Word. But my mac converts them to Pages.

I have some Word Perfect (I think) files extenion .wps that I wanted to open but can't get NeoOffice or the default text editor on my mac to open them. Anyone know of work arounds? Unfortunately too the trial on the Office suit has expired so can't even get the trial version of Word to convert!
View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running Word for Mac 2008 on an iMac Intel with Snow Leopard. I do a lot of document writing, often switching back and forth between documents. I find it a pain to have to go to "Window," find a document, opn it, then go back to "Window" to where I was originally.
I've bene playing around with Scrivener and I really like how it lines up documents on the left and then you can import them into a split screen. Does Word 2011 have anything like this?
I had a word perfect doc sent to me today that I need to open and have access to, but because it is wpd, I cannot do so. I do not have a MBP so running boot camp is not an option. Does anyone know an application or how to convert a word perfect document in such a way so that it is not gibberish?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am in search for a lightweight, TextEdit-like app that has the handy floating text insert feature. Freeware would be the greatest, but i dont mind paying a modest shareware fee. I have and use Appleworks still, which has the handy feature by Option-Clicking anywhere you want the floating text, but am looking for something a little more future proof.
I downloaded Bean and iText Express, but I could not find that sweet feature in those apps.
I wish Apple would develop (buy or steal) a good word processor. How about just reengineering Pages to LOOK like MS Word? The familiarity would be a big selling point. I bought iwork... and Pages just baffles me how strange it is.

Are there any other Apps that can edit an MS Word .doc Document ??
Apparently my friend has pages 08 on her MB and it doesn't offer an option to save in Word 97 format.

In the FONT book I have lots of great fonts under "ALL FONTS". When I open Word I can only access about 60% of them...in FONT Book, when I try and drag them from ALL FONTS to COMPUTER (which are the fonts that Word uses), I get the duplicate font response which, when I try and RESOLVE, I disable fonts.
How can I access fonts in ALL FONTS (listed in FONT book) when using WORD?
is there anyway to find where the original picture (from file) came from after you've forgotten where you got it in the first place?
This is when you use Insert Picture From File.
I have created a document that has a few check boxes in Word 2010 on a PC. On the PC, if you click on the empty check box, it will become 'checked' which is what I want. When I use the same document on Word 2011 on the Mac, it doesn't seem to have the same functionality.

SOLUTION:
Go to Preferences -> Spelling & Grammar.
Then click the checkbox.
Im trying to recover a Word document that is password protected. Is there any freeware that will do this? I don't care what the solution is, I just want it to be free. Is there anything that can be done?

View 10 Replies View Relatedwhen i create a PDF file of my *.docx in Word 2008, I get a 'strange' PDF. This happens wether I use the "Save as PDF..." from the print dialog, or save the file as a PDF from Word's own "Save as..." dialogue.
Opening the PDF in either Preview or Adobe Acrobat works just fine, and the PDF looks just like I want it to be, but whenever I mark some text, a whole range of text is marked.
Thus it is impossible to mark just a single line/word/character and the produced PDFs are useless in my line of work, since I need people to mark text in them and post comments.
Interesting facts:
1) When I "Save as PostScript..." from Word 2008, then open the *.ps file in Preview and save as PDF from there, everything is fine.
2) Printing to PDF via print dialogue -> "Save as PDF..." produces perfect PDFs in any other Program (such as TextMate), also with selectable text.
Word 2008 is driving me crazy. I'm writing a thesis, very basic, no strange graphics or whatever, but the damn thing crashes a lot of times. I have the latest updates and have done a few uninstall/install cycles + usual mac stuff (delete preferences, repair permissions) but to no avail. How does it work for you ? When I used the 2004 version it run much smoother. I could switch back, but while Office 2004 came from "unknown" sources I have a legal purchased copy of Office 2008 which I'd like to use.
