Are There Any Good Docking Stations For A Macbook Pro 13''
Jul 2, 2012
I'd like one that I can plug external speakers into as well as the printer and other devices so I don't have to unplug them from the actual Macbook each time I take it with me.I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro 13"
Its time for me to upgrade my macbook pro(2007 model). I really want to get another mac, as they are pretty, sturdy, run windows if needed and have good battery. Problem is theres no bloomin dock! At work I have a dell latitude that I can carry around, and just sits into a dock to connect to my peripherals when I am at my desk. Most folks say its just a few wires, and only takes 30 seconds, but not really. I would have:
3 External Disks. Speakers. Ergonomic keyboard(not mac wireless). Ergonomic mouse(not mighty mouse). USB interfacing guitar pedal. Card reader. Monitor.
That's a short list and could be longer if I add ipods etc. My point is, or rather, my question is why don't apple do docking stations? They used to do them? Loads of other companies do them.
I have a few MBPs, the 15 inch model. At my desk, there is a tangle of cords: Two scanners, keyboard, mouse, audio to speakers, and wired Ethernet. Today this is connected via a USB hub, plus audio and Ethernet. To make things worse, the Apple USB to Ethernet dongle doesn't like to work through my cheapo USB hub, nor do the scanners (HP flatbed and Fujitsu autofeed), so I can't use it to reduce the number of cables. By the way, that USB hub is able to handle scanners and keyboard just fine when on a Windows laptop. Ideally, I would like the reduce the number of cables needed at the desk to three: power (magsafe), video (thunderbolt), and all the rest via a single USB cable. Switching to the Apple Thunderbolt display is a non-option for various reasons.
So what I'm looking for is a USB hub with built-in Ethernet and built-in audio, and which works with a Mac. It has to have at least 4 ports (a few more spares would be better) and has to have USB 2.0 speed to make Ethernet sensible. On the web, there are lots of stories of USB hubs that DON'T work MBPs (the one on my desk is an example). To make matters even more interesting, I haven't found a USB hub with built-in Ethernet *and* audio yet, so I might have to use an inexpensive USB audio dongle. So are there any examples of USB hubs with > 4 ports, Ethernet and audio that someone has seen actually work with Macs? If those don't exist, are there any examples without audio?
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.1), iTunes 10.5 (as of today)
I would like to do some house keeping of icons on the docking station. There are some icons that I use them less often and I would like to pick it up from the Applications Folder on the right side. I want to remove icons that used for less often and add new icons for frequent use. Can someone point me to the place where has worked instructions doing the following.
1. I notice there are two parts of icons: one on the right and others on the left. What is the defination of these icons?
2.How can I create the new icon of application and add icons to the docking station for frequent use?
I Recently purchased a Mac Pro and I am considering interfacing it to a Weather Station. Almost every Weather Station touts PC compatibility and about 1/3 interface Mac's. But after reading the reviews on them... I am under the impression that many users have run aground and encountered problems attempting to interface them to a Mac or PC. Anyone here have first hand experience interfacing a modern Weather Station to a Mac via one of the USB ports?
I noticed Kennsington's wireless USB docking station on sale at Frys Site earlier this morning. The description mentions the docking station is Mac compatible. I've searched these forums and the net and haven't found any threads on people using this with a Mac in the past, it seems wayyy too good to be true. I was hoping somebody a little more tech savvy than myself might be able to weigh in on this. I attached the link to the USB docking station below and I also own a mid-late 2008 MBP. [URL].
I mean, it really "hangs" as in NOT RESPONDING. And don't go into the "your running it on Win7 on the backside of your MacBook Pro". It typically hangs for 2-5 minutes then "connects" to the station.
In the UK, the Airport Extreme base sation is a 2-3 week wait on the Apple store and big stores like John Lewis have no stock. On Appleinsider, there's a story about and Australian offer and a mention that potential buyers should wait. Is there any other news that suggests I should wait to get a new base station?
I use the new Airport Extreme Base Station with my Cable Modem, and recently bought a second machine (Windows Based). Now this other machine doesn't have any wireless capabilities and is too far to use an ethernet, so I decided to use an old Airport Extreme Base Station (The cone shaped one). The NEW Base station doesn't have any WDS option, the only remote thing I can see is 'Allow Network To Be Extended' The OLD one does have the WDS option and requires the NEW router's MAC Address etc... If only I still had my Airport Express, or a longer ethernet cable!
I have a wireless network set up using an airport express. Both my iMac and MacBook connect to it wirelessly. I want to use a second airport express and put it in my livingroom so I can connect my stereo speakers and use AirTunes. If I configure the second express to join the current network, will I be able to use internet and airtunes at the same time from the same computer? In other words, can I use the two airport express base stations in just one network with both internet sharing and airtunes?
I want to be able to use wireless internet and stream music to my stereo at the same time, but I only have a single internet connection behind my stereo and it's connected to the Pay TV. My options seem to be getting a new line installed behind the stereo so I can insert this into the same Airport Express base station I use for my music, or buying a second Airport Express base station and connecting it to one of the other internet connections in the room, then connecting to both Airport Express base stations at the same time.
This morning I opened iTunes and all I got was a little sound box that let me play a preselected piece from my library, but I can no longer see my library. All my choices under the file drop down menu are grayed out. "Library" is active, but the only choices are "organize," "export" "import." I can't even get the sidebar that lets me open my iTunes radio stations. I just upgraded to version 10 to see if that was the problem, but to no avail.
I recently upgraded my Airport Extreme form the old "UFO looking" Airport to a the new Airport Extreme N and am having trouble extending the network using the older airport as a remote in WDS. I have followed both of the following articles without any success.[URL:...] I followed the 2nd doco (ap2124) up to point 6 and I followed the 1st doco (ap2045) from the start and applied the changes, but my older (ufo looking) airport extreme don't seem to connect to the newer Airport Extreme N. I contacted Apple support and after checking with the product specialist, they advised me that I couldn't mix the 2 devices and I would have to buy the Airport Express N and extend my network using the Express. my question is, has anyone extended their network by using 2 different Airport base stations?
I'm considering getting an Airport Extreme Base Station off either eBay or CL used to save on cost. I cannot find any info on different versions that have been made in the last year or two. So I know if I'd be getting a latest version? I really know nothing about the Airport Extreme Base Station. But thought it might be best at this point because we only have Macs in the house. That might change in the next year or so though. I probably will add a PC to the mix eventually. I used to know PCs well and routing and networking for them back in the early Windose 2000 era. I've been out of touch though for the past 7 -8yrs or so though.
I am upgrading my MBP first gen unibody to an SSD drive. I just read that we should not clone an existing HDD to a SSD. The author did not give a reason why. So, my question is: will cloning my current HDD to a new SSD (using Super Duper) adversely affect the SSD performance? My initial plan for upgrading before reading this article was to clone my HDD to a new SSD in an enclosure (using Super Duper), then install the SSD. I thought this would save me a lot of effort restoring everything from scratch.
I am starting to wonder if Apple will ever 'fix' or upgrade the screen(s) in Rev B to the same level as rev A or if this screen is something we have to accept when we buy a MBA?
Cant make up my mind whether to buy the Rev B or not due to the screen. a last gen MBP glossy has a better screen as far as I have seen.
Installed a few software up dates in Parallels/Windows XP and saw the processor hit 176 degrees. Can anyone recommend a decent fan/cooling mat that will fit the AIR? I have one for my MacBook Pro that's unfortunately a little too large.
I want to calibrate my battery -- is there a recommended app for just chewing away to make the process faster? Do people just play movies over and over again?
