Could you please tell me if it is possible to disable junk filtering for specific accounts in Mail.app? I have two Gmail accounts and several other email accounts and Google recommends disabling your client's spam filter when you use their service.
View 7 RepliesI am using Mail 4.5. I used to have a Junk button next to the Delete button. I would select a long list of messages and click the Junk button. I was making adjustments in my Preferences (to stop certain filters), and must have done something to make that button disappear. Also, it seems to have stopped filtering junk. My Junk Mail preferences still show: Enable junk mail filtering, When junk mail arrives, move it to the junk mailbox, and all the rest of the boxes are checked.

I've got external spam filter, and I've turned off junk filtering in apple mail.
But every so often, Mail categorizes messages as junk. It might be new since 10.9.4.

I've read some threads but none truly answer my question. I have learnt I need to create a rule in CLOUD as mail is sent to all devices from there and if I create the rule in MAIL on my desktop it does not solve the issue as it will still get sent to other devices, correct?
I want to create a rule for junk. Ever changing junk email addresses, content etc. Sometime mail recognies it and sometimes not. How can I set up a rule, filter, etc to delete these permamnently . Its hard when the sender address is ever changing, or the content is never the same. IE one day it is from weatherx@
next time w3ath3rx@, next vveatherx@..it is so annoying. Or the content like I saw this morning every single word had a 20 in front of it...

I have a Mac OS X 10.6.1 I have been having trouble with my MAC Junk mailbox. For a while it worked very well and I was able to review junk mail. All of a sudden, I am receiving no junk entries in my junk mail box. Preferences: Enable junk mail filtering, When junk arrives, move it to the junk mailbox, sender of message is in my my address book, sender of message is in my previous recipients, filter junk mail before applying my rules. What must I do to SEE received junk mail back in my junk mailbox?

I want mail to filter junk (including previous emails) and automatically place it in the junk folder. Currently, all it is doing is marking mail as junk within the inbox, and no junk emails are showing up in the junk folder. I tried unchecking and rechecking filtering for junk, resetting (in preferences), and re-downloading all emails. I have the box marked for move it to junk box, but the emails only show up as spam w/i the inbox.

Is there any way to get unread messages that have been auto-moved into the Junk folder to be counted in the Dock icon unread count? I keep Mail hidden and like to see just from the Dock when I get mail, and sometimes "junk" mail can be real mail from a new sender, a company, etc. I've tried the neat little menu extra Manila Mail, but it doesn't work there either (I'm guessing it just gets the unread count from the same place that Mail's Dock icon does).
View 5 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden, mail.app no longer applies the Junk mail rules. Although the messages are identified as junk, they are no longer moved to the Junk folder on my iMAP server.
I'm running Leopard 10.5.2 My settings are in the attached screenshot.
I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro. Mail is configured exactly the same on both. Specifically:
1) Under Preferences->Junk->Exempt: the "Sender of message is in my Address Book" is checked.
2) There are no Rules other than the default.
Junk filtering works well on the MacBook Pro (a newer install that has been "learning" for a month or two. The iMac on the other hand insists on moving messages from known senders to the Junk folder. By known sender, I mean addresses that are in my address book. The iMac is 2 years old so I'm assuming it has "learned" much more about junk mail than the MacBook. I'd be willing to reset the junk history on the iMac. Both systems are running up-to-date Leopard.
I have several email accounts that come to my mac. When junk appears I hit the junk button. Does it take awhile to train the junk or is there a way to set up mail so that it automatically goes to junk and does not appear at all in my inbox?

how can i filter out specific email advertisements from certain companies. i have my spam filters engaged but there are several email addresses for companies that come through. i'd like to filter out these specific addresses, but can't find an option to do so.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an external drive that is permanently hooked-up to my iMac via Firewire. I use this drive only to perform a bootable disk image of my hard drive at regular intervals using the CCC scheduler. The backups are performed only once a week. I would like that this backup drive not be mounted when I or anyone else logs in to the computer. It annoys me to hear the drive turning and vibrating until it spins down and seeing it's icon on the desktop. Is there any way to prevent automount of this particular drive? I know I can dismount it manually using Diskutil, but I want everything to be automated. Any clue as to whether CCC will mount it when needed if it is unmounted?

The reason is my university uses Blackboard / Vista and every time I log in it asks me if I want to allow it to run. I refuse to do so, and it doesn't have an option to never allow it to run for this site.

I want to mark an item in junk mail as non-junk. I can't click the non-junk button because it isn't there. In other words, the button at the top of the junk mail list stays as "Junk". Trying Messages>Mark doesn't work either: there is no choice for "not junk", the only choice is "Junk". How can I fix this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm experiencing a really weird issue since upgrading to SL. I have a gmail account (working fine) and several POP accounts including YMAIL. This is what is happening, every few days or so. The POP accounts are refreshing the exiting mail in the inbox and marking them as unread (for no apparent reason) Not all but the vast majority of existing messages.

For example, when a user launches a FileMaker database, they're propted (via a Finder-style popup window) to enter their username/password for that database. And there's the checkbox option to "Remember this password in my keychain". The same thing happens when mounting Share Points via AFP on one of my Xserves — the user is prompted for their login credentials and given the option to remember the login info in their keychain.
It's our company's policy that users DO NOT use keychain to store passwords for these to services, but thus far, aside from physically checking the individual user accounts on the various machines (which is pretty much impossible), there's no way to enforce this policy. So, I'm hoping to find a way to disable the ability for passwords for these services to be stored in the user's keychain.
As a Mac newbie, I have noticed an increase in the amount of spam that I get compared to my Windows environment, in which I had used several purchased anti-spam solutions, the latest being a part of the ZoneAlarm Security Suite (which uses an embedded version of MailFrontier, which has excellent performance).
The documentation says that Mail's built-in spam filtering "will take a while to learn" from my actions. However, I have been using it for about three weeks now and a lot of spam still gets through.
This week my Mail sound started going off for all types, incessantly, including receipt of the much Junk filtered out of the Inbox into Junk. Formerly I received alert sounds only for new Inbox mail. I have unchecked the "Play sounds for other actions" in Mail Preferences which does no good.

I've only really used Mail in a very basic way - for reading email from three email accounts, one work, two Gmail. I've never attempted to organize things in any way. However, I want to clean things up a bit now. I'm getting a lot of work emails - I'm a journalist - and I want to organise them based on which article they relate to. I presumed the easiest way to do this would be to create a folder (a 'Mailbox' I take it, Mailbox > New Mailbox) and drag the relevant emails to the corresponding folder. However, when I do this the emails no longer appear in my overall Inbox, so when I search the Inbox, they don't appear. I've had a quick look around the Preferences, but can't see a simply option for changing this. Am I going about this the right way organising using Mailboxes? Or is there a better way perhaps?

I dont particularly get on with Apple Mail. I find it crashes fairly frequently and really struggles when I am out and about using the mobile dongle.

I do use MobileMe and i know I'll be able to sync my mails that way, but due to the cost of internet connectivity in South Africa, I'd prefer not to be sharing my emails over the internet.
Is there a way that I can wirelessly sync my mails using my Airport?
Something automatic that would initiate the sync when both machines are detected on the network would be 1st prize.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm having trouble getting 2 exchange accounts working using osx`s Mail app. When I install one account, it works fine. When i install 2, they both stop working.
They will both send but not recieve mail. Both accounts are on the same Exchange 2007 server.
I find it strange that Mail under iOS 4 works better than under OSX (10.6.4)
