Because Adobe hasn't the Ballz to release a 64-bit version of Flash Player to all platforms, any application that runs in 64-bit and utilizes Flash will have to use the WebKitPluginHost to cater to Adobe's.32-bitness. This means Dashboard now consumes MUCH more resources than in Leopard. I made a Pandora Webclip back in 2007 and it has been FLAWLESS over the years, until Snow Leopard. My only hangup is, Dashboard only opens in 32-bit mode during the first uptime that I have checked "Open in 32-bit Mode". After a restart, it opens in 64-bit mode, EVEN while the same option is checked.
I put "levelwidget" on the dashboard - it is supposed to make a macbook into a Level. Sounded interesting...now I regret! The widget is corrupted and now when I try to open the dashboard it immediately closes and gives me an error message "you can't open the application motion because power pc applications are no longer supported" How do I delete this widget so I can open the dashboard. I've tried to look up the file, but can't seem to find dashboard widget files.
I was messing around with Audio Hijack and it was working just fine. But now it seems iTunes always starts in 32-bit mode (even without audio hijack running). Also it seems to take quite a while to open the app. If I log in as root (or via a Terminal) I can open iTunes just fine, 64-bit and it opens instantly. Also when I log out OS X hangs a while on the screen you get when he's logging you out (the blue-ish screen).
I've poured over these boards in hopes to finding a solution as to why my dashboard won't open. It literally stopped working mid day, one day when I went to return to get a number off of my sticky note in my dashboard. I have tried posting the different lists from my preferences page, however, am unable to get the docments to actually drag to my desktop. I'm not sure if there are any other solutions, but was hoping to find a quick fix as opposed to traveling 2 hours to the nearest genius bar. Any help would be awesome!!
Is it normal when you open up dashboard and some widgets are displaced? My weather widget is not in same place as where I put it and it overlaps some other widgets. I know I can just move it back but is this normal?
So why exactly does this "Open in Dashboard" feature still exist in Safari? I haven't gotten it to ever work properly any time I tried to use it. Is there still any actual use for this or did Apple just forget about it?
My dashboard widgets froze -- open on screen. I had to close each widget. Now I now longer have one-click pop up of my selected widgets.I get a beep when I click the dashboard icon. I have to click the plus sign and open individual widgets.
I'm not sure which forum this belongs in, but given that its really a vmware question, I'm thinking that applications is the best fit.
Anyways, if I decide to take the plunge and get windows 7, it will be for the express purpose of running within vmware. I have zero interest in running it in bootcamp (I use fedora and boot into that) so basically which version of win7 would provide the best performance. The 32bit or 64bit flavor
how to open mission control using magic trackpad. I tried swapping three fingers up, but it did not work. Three fingers only highlights, it does not open any application.
I have had my mighty mouse for a couple months and it has worked great on my macbook. Just recently the middle button won't open up the dashboard and the two side buttons go through spaces instead of exposing all windows. In system proferences under mouse and spaces both are set for the middle button to open the dashboard and the side buttons to expose all windows but they don't do that. It could be an easy fix but I don't know what else to try?
From the screenshots of 10.7 it looks like Launchpad is replacing Dashboard, there is no icon in the dock. Although I don't use dashboard a lot it is very useful for the calculator and conversion widget.
I'm looking for something similar to the windows vista sidebar ( the 'widgets' on the right hand side of the desktop. The mac ones are all pretty much different sizes and it dosn't give that ' neat look'.
Maybe I'm searching for the wrong thing, but since my dashboard was missing from my dock, I went to applications to look for it. I can't find it. Is it actually called dashboard, or should I be looking for something else.
I have lost the dashboard app. Having upgraded my os on my brand new iMac I was having issues with my dashboard, and have -apparently- trashed my dashboard.app file. The dashboard is still working, but I don't seem to be able do find the app anymore.
Anyone uses Convert on the Dashboard? The Currency convert has been not-working on my computer for a while. I'm not sure if any others noticed the problem. Basically, it doesn't convert to the right number... It even gives me different values when I put in the same currency on both sides of the equal sign.
i am having trouble running a dashboard widget on my desktop. i have the program deeper and i have it working all set but here is where the problem lies.
when i place it on the desktop it puts it on top of everything. thats annoying as hell. how can i put it on the bottom layer of my desktop?
for example if i was in photoshop, its on the top layer, i need to put it on the bottom.
For about 2 weeks, my dashboard hasn't been working properly. I've had Snow Leopard on my machine for about 2 months, so it's not directly related to the fact that I put that on my machine, but I'm not really sure what is going on. Most of the widgets are semi-unresponsive, the weather widget still gives me the weather etc., but none of the little "i" buttons work, and several of the other buttons on certain widgets don't work, making many of the widgets practically unusable. It's almost as if the widgets aren't recognizing the mouse. I've tried deleting dashboard preferences, and then last night I reinstalled snow leopard, none of which made any difference. I also tried using pacifist to re-install dashboard, still nothing. I really don't want to have to do a clean install just for the dashboard, I'm using a 1.83 ghz intel macbook (2006)
Long story short I accidentally deleted my dashboard from the applications folder and emptied the trash. I don't have the original restoration disks so I was hoping that someone could host the file for me.
I'm a former windows user and I'm still learning about OS X. I hate installing programs that leave behind all kinds of files though, especially when they slow your system down like in windows. I'm wondering, when you download, install, and then uninstall widgets, do files get left behind afterwards?
I have the Open Firmware Password enabled, which prevents my machine from booting into Safe Mode when I hold the shift key at startup (as expected). As a result, if I want to use Safe Mode I have to boot up from my install DVD, disable the password and then reboot. Very time consuming! I just read about a way to boot into Safe Mode:
(at [URL="http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455"]Apple Support[/URL)] by entering the following terminal command: sudo nvram boot-args="-x"
I'm a little hesitant to test it out in case I run into some sort of Open Firmware/Safe Mode conflict.
I recently had to replace my old mackbook with a mackbook pro. I need to recover some data from the old macbook but target mode isn't working. It keeps freezing at the apple start up (grey) screen.
When I open MacBook Pro (in sleep mode) I see rainbow on black screen. I have to keep the power button. I have this problem only when I open (after closing) my MBP. It started after an upgrade HHD to SSD (OCZ Agility 4). SMC reset did not help. I have MBP 13 late 2011 i5 2,4. Mac OS X 10.7.4.
How's it going everyone, I'm fairly new to Mac and I'm not very technical at all. I just purchased an i7 15" and I'm confused when it comes to 64bit vs 32bit. Does the computer automatically switch between the two or is there something you have to specifically do to run one or the other? For instance, I downloaded Handbrake last night, it asked if I wanted 64bit or 32bit? I have no clue? I bought a powerful machine, I want to make sure I utilize it.
I am running Creative Suite CS5 and noticed all plugins will not work, as CS5 works natively in 64 bit. I have tried opening in 32 bit and the beachball of slow goes on indefinitely and will not open in 32? I can still use plugins in CS4 then export product into CS5, but a bit of a long winded route...anyone else?
