I was messing around with Audio Hijack and it was working just fine. But now it seems iTunes always starts in 32-bit mode (even without audio hijack running). Also it seems to take quite a while to open the app. If I log in as root (or via a Terminal) I can open iTunes just fine, 64-bit and it opens instantly. Also when I log out OS X hangs a while on the screen you get when he's logging you out (the blue-ish screen).
View 2 RepliesBecause Adobe hasn't the Ballz to release a 64-bit version of Flash Player to all platforms, any application that runs in 64-bit and utilizes Flash will have to use the WebKitPluginHost to cater to Adobe's.32-bitness. This means Dashboard now consumes MUCH more resources than in Leopard. I made a Pandora Webclip back in 2007 and it has been FLAWLESS over the years, until Snow Leopard. My only hangup is, Dashboard only opens in 32-bit mode during the first uptime that I have checked "Open in 32-bit Mode". After a restart, it opens in 64-bit mode, EVEN while the same option is checked.

I pressed the shift ket at the BONG and released at the spinning gear screen. Is this normal? Does OS X perform disc read/write, verification, cache handling, etc. that causes the lengthy boot.
My imac keeps starting up in safe mode how can i stop this?

Restarted macbook in safe mode (i just pressed shift upon startup and logged in) to correct the resolution for my display settings that were affected earlier today when connecting to an overhead projector. The resolution is back to normal, but now everything is delayed. Moving between windows, opening word, opening an email, is all slow and delayed. This computer has never been this slow.

The thing is, it only happens about half the time - otherwise it's booting up normally. I wiped my drive and reinstalled Lion, ran fsck and used disk utility several times, but it's still happening.

It's a 2.16 intel Core 2 duo with the ATI Radeon X1600 128MB video and I'm running OSX 10.7.3. It started happening on Snow leopard so I thought maybe upgrading to Lion would fix it but it has continued exactly the same. I've had an issue for a while now where the computer would just freeze all of a sudden. It happened after a few days at times while sometimes it happen right after a reboot.
Here are the things I've tried.
1. I upgraded to lion
2. I replaced the ram
3. Look at the crash log but found nothing
4. Ram mem check utility but it found nothing
I can boot the computer in safe mode by holding the shift key and it works perfect with no freezing but I loose audio support becuase I think it's not loading the audio drivers. Question is: Can I select what drivers I want on boot when starting in regular mode not safe mode in order to try to disable drivers until I find the issue? Is there anyplace else that I can find which driver caused the computer to freeze after a freeze/crash? If I can ID the driver is there a way to update/replace the driver if it doesn't come up in "software update"? I'm thinking it's the video driver becuase I would occationally get some weird things happening on the screen that I attributed to an older display.

My 2014 21" iMac powers itself down after about 10 seconds while trying to startup in safe boot mode. I'm not even sure why it is trying to start in safe boot mode. I shut it down after a power outage while plugged into an APS UPS. I'm guessing that since I interrupted the auto shutdown it is restarting in safe boot mode. Either way, I get a grey screen with a big apple and a progress bar. The progress bar gets to about a tenth full and the power just shuts off.
I've tried starting up while holding the alt key to select the Macintosh HD. The same thing happens.

I have an iBook G4 that runs on OS X. Today, my software update box popped up, and I downloaded the new version of itunes. It worked. Then the other update didn't finish. I'm not sure if that's connected. Now, my itunes won't open. When I first tried, nothing would happen. So I restarted the computer, but it wouldn't full restart (stuck on the box with an apple, acting like it was starting up but never did). So I did an archive install with my discs. That worked. But now when I try to open itunes, a box pops up and says that "you cannot use this application with this version of OS X." What?? I feel tricked and panicky. What can I do?

I have a Mid 2007 MacBook (Core 2 Duo, 2.20 GHz, 2GB, OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard) and I am having a problem with iTunes. I have a fresh install and was going to sell the computer to a client when I realized that iTunes had a serious problem. Whenever I go to launch iTunes, I click on the dock icon. It bounces multiple times on the first attempt, but the program never launches by showing "iTunes" in the top menu. The little light never comes on beneath the icon either. Also note that on each attempt afterwards the icon only bounces once and then stops.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo the last couple of days iTunes has been hell for me. Couple of days ago, when I opened iTunes like any other time, I was presented with an error message saying my itunes library was damaged. Anyway, long story short, I've started over and created a new one and imported all my songs, podcasts, videos etc in. That all worked well, but I was still missing my precious play counts and ratings, though I was able to import my playlists. So what I did was import one of the itunes database files from the "previous itunes libraries" option. What happened then was that it removed all the files that I purchased after the date in which the database file was created. Annoying as I can't remember every song I've purchased.
The 2 main problems at the moment is that the files I purchased are already in my iTunes media folder, I found that out by just searching some songs I remember, but the matter of remembering each one is impossible. I contemplated the idea of "Add to library" but I think all that does is import everything again into the library rather than find any ones that aren't already in it. Is there anyway to get iTunes to automatically find the files that aren't already my library and just add those? Second problem is I have is the dreaded '!' next to many of my songs, again I am sure that I have these files in my media folder (I've checked), iTunes has just (for some reason) not found those files. Again, is there a way for iTunes to automatically find those files? As opposed to me finding and clicking on everyone of those '!'s and locating the files manually?
i don't know how to tell it to stop starting up whenever i restart OS X.

Had some library troubles with iTunes 9, and decided to do a clean install of not only the program, but of Snow Leopard itself. I was waiting on an iTunes update to come out before I decided to re-load my library in, since I didn't want to risk repeat problems (I've always been one of those bleeding edge-ers, and this is the 1st time I've ever had a problem/held back...guess I learned my lesson). 9.0.1 is out and seems to address the problems I'd been having, but I caught the "start fresh" bug and I want to start over with iTunes. No playlists, play counts, etc need to be saved.
I do have a full backup of my previous system and I'm wondering what the best way to get all of my music back into iTunes is.
- Do I use the Finder to simply drag the contents of my old "iTunes Music" folder into the new "iTunes Media" folder?
- Do I drag the whole folder and drop it onto the iTunes window? (I'm worried this method won't put iPhone apps, ringtones, audiobooks and podcasts in the right place).
- Do I use the import function?
Prior to making the backup, I did upgrade to/select iTunes Media Organization
Basically, when I manually (and using keyboard) press pause when playing back a track, each time I press play again the track starts from the beginning. It has never done this before, ever. I need to find a way to fix it in order to work.

I have a Macbook Pro running OS X Yosemite Ver 10.10.1. Whenever I plug in my Apple headphone it in, the iTunes automatically starts and I would like to disable the same. I am talking on FaceTime using my head phone, (I am guessing some small movements of headphone triggering this) the iTunes starts automatically and the songs start to play during the FaceTime call.
Does any one know how to disable the iTunes from not starting up automatically, whenever a Headphone is inserted into Mac. I can start iTunes whenever I want like any other application. But I just don’t want any automatic starting of iTunes, when I plug the headphone!

I recently upgraded my system HDD to an SSD with a new install of OSX 10.6.4 and mimicked the settings I had on my previous set up to replicate it. however, when for example I was using iTunes to play music the screen saver would come on and a short time later the system would pause iTunes and goes into Sleep mode.
my previous install never did that so I'm not sure if its because of the SSD and it not being mechanical it doesnt recognize it accessing or seeking 'per se' because regardless of unchecking "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" it still does it. here is an image of energy saver settings; btw I had the system plugged into and still went into sleep mode when iTunes was playing and even other media formats such as Video in iTunes or VLC.
My Windows XP partition is getting claustrophobic and it's about time I upgraded from an 8 year old OS.
Anyway, what's the easiest way to do this? I assume it'll have to be a clean install to go from XP to 7 and 32bit to 64bit.
I have a fair number of programs and several gigabytes of Steam games which is why I haven't done it yet.
How's it going everyone, I'm fairly new to Mac and I'm not very technical at all. I just purchased an i7 15" and I'm confused when it comes to 64bit vs 32bit. Does the computer automatically switch between the two or is there something you have to specifically do to run one or the other? For instance, I downloaded Handbrake last night, it asked if I wanted 64bit or 32bit? I have no clue? I bought a powerful machine, I want to make sure I utilize it.

I am running Creative Suite CS5 and noticed all plugins will not work, as CS5 works natively in 64 bit. I have tried opening in 32 bit and the beachball of slow goes on indefinitely and will not open in 32? I am running an early 2008 Mac Pro: 4GB ram (only 3 running in XP) Dual Intel Quad-Core Xeon 2.8 GHz ATI Radeon HD 2600 256MB So over the last couple months, I've been getting some extremely bad and annoying freezing problems when playing Left 4 Dead on 32bit Windows XP Home Edition. The last sound played repeats over and over again with the screen freezing; this has lasted anywhere from 5 seconds - 40 seconds. My frame rate doesn't seem to be making a huge difference, its consistent at 45-60 fps when its on pretty simple settings:

At first I thought it might be my Graphics card over heating but tonight I tried it with the case open and a very powerful fan blowing air directly onto the card and the problem continued. PS. this hasn't happened with any other games but it doesn't run Crysis very well but thats obvious because well...its Crysis and even with it I have higher settings on. I've also cleared the computer of any spec of dust, just so you know.
This article gave me a little bit more understand and also made me feel better that either booting in 32bit or 64bit kernel will not make a huge difference due to hardware limitation.

I've successfully installed windows professional 32bit onto my mac computer with bootcamp. When I insert my OS10.5 Leopard cd's into the computer windows will not detect the CD's. These are original CD's after trying to get it to work for a few mins I came up with an idea. I downloaded the 2.1 mac drivers from apple @ [URL]. I then burned the drivers onto a cd and then rebooted into windows. After copying the drivers from the cd to my harddrive, I tried to install the drivers that I had downloaded but nothing happens. I can see in the taskmanager that the BCUpdateXP.exe runs for a few seconds then does nothing. The mac is an iMac 8.1, intel core 2 duo, 2.66ghz, 2gb ram. The leopard cd's work when running the mac under Mac OSx 10.5.8 which would mean the cd's should be fine.

Im about to recieve my MPro w/8800, and plan to have a dedicated HD for Windows in bootcamp. Windows will be used exclusively for gaming (real-time-strategy games mostly, if this matters).
I am keen on going into Vista, trading a bit of XP performance/stability towards full/hassel-free compatibility with Directx10 and future games, but have no clue whether it makes sense or not to go with the 64 bit version.
I understand this version allows to use much more RAM (which i will have installed on the MPro), AND more than a single core used.
What i dont have a clue about is wether the 64bit version is compatible with all (or grand majority) of games, whether they do actually take advantages of the 64 bit possibility (which im not sure at all, as i believe you have to program it to do so), etc.
