MacBook Pro :: Dashboard Won't Open From Dock Or Applications Folder?
May 29, 2012
I've poured over these boards in hopes to finding a solution as to why my dashboard won't open. It literally stopped working mid day, one day when I went to return to get a number off of my sticky note in my dashboard. I have tried posting the different lists from my preferences page, however, am unable to get the docments to actually drag to my desktop. I'm not sure if there are any other solutions, but was hoping to find a quick fix as opposed to traveling 2 hours to the nearest genius bar. Any help would be awesome!!
I put "levelwidget" on the dashboard - it is supposed to make a macbook into a Level. Sounded interesting...now I regret! The widget is corrupted and now when I try to open the dashboard it immediately closes and gives me an error message "you can't open the application motion because power pc applications are no longer supported" How do I delete this widget so I can open the dashboard. I've tried to look up the file, but can't seem to find dashboard widget files.
Maybe I'm searching for the wrong thing, but since my dashboard was missing from my dock, I went to applications to look for it. I can't find it. Is it actually called dashboard, or should I be looking for something else.
Long story short I accidentally deleted my dashboard from the applications folder and emptied the trash. I don't have the original restoration disks so I was hoping that someone could host the file for me.
I know this question sounds obvious and there are a million threads on placing folders on the dock but my need is more specific:
I want to add a folder to the dock but when I click on that folder, I simply want it to open in finder. I don't want to click the folder and then view contents in in Grid or List view, I only want the finder to open with that folder's contents. Is this possible?
so i have an application folder and downloads folder on my dock, is there any way i can auto open in finder when i click it? it doesnt have the option when i right click to od that
Because Adobe hasn't the Ballz to release a 64-bit version of Flash Player to all platforms, any application that runs in 64-bit and utilizes Flash will have to use the WebKitPluginHost to cater to Adobe's.32-bitness. This means Dashboard now consumes MUCH more resources than in Leopard. I made a Pandora Webclip back in 2007 and it has been FLAWLESS over the years, until Snow Leopard. My only hangup is, Dashboard only opens in 32-bit mode during the first uptime that I have checked "Open in 32-bit Mode". After a restart, it opens in 64-bit mode, EVEN while the same option is checked.
Just today the dock, dashboard, and dragging files made it look like a graphic glitch, it seems it may be the graphic card. I'm posting a pic to see what you guys think.
I have my documents folder in my dock. But I don't like the view choices that are provided. I want my documents folder to open in finder automatically. I would prefer not to scroll down to find that option and click on it. Is there any way for my docs folder to automatically open in the finder when located in the dock?
Info: OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), 16 GB, 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5
I was deleting a file from my screen, and I accidentally removed my Document Folder so it is off my dock. Now next to the dashed lines to make the dock bigger, I only have my Application folder with the trashcan. I have no idea how my Document folder back on!
Everytime I drag the Applications folder from the left side of the Finder window to the dock, I just see a poof of smoke and nothing gets added to the dock BUT the Applications folder from the left side of the Finder window disappears!!
Am I doing the dragging/dropping wrong or something? I've tried to add it to the right hand side of the dock (the side by the Trash can), and it still does the same thing.
I'm using CandyBar to change the icons, and the Dashboard icon is changed under both System and Applications. In Finder it looks like the one I want to change it to, but when I move it into the Dock it just looks like the default icon. The same thing happens with the Finder icon. Any ideas? Oh and to change the iCal icon, is there any way to change the way the icon looks when you have iCal running? It just looks weird to have it look one way when it's closed and change back to the default when it's open.
After trying to customize my icons with LiteIcon and CandyBar and everything, my dock refuses to show up, at all. When I go to Finder and then to Dock, it has the beach ball.
When I try to go to the Applications folder, it has the beach ball.
I've tried Terminal "killall Dock" but it doesn't appear to be a Dock problem, but rather an Application problem. Maybe even both.
This is my first week using a mac, I don't know what to do. I'm currently repairing disk permissions?
i have, or had, an applications folder next to the trash on my dock but the link seems to have broken. when i click it now it just puts up a big question mark.
i tried making an alias for the applications folder and putting that on the dock in place of the broken one but that, while it works right after i make it, soon breaks also.
what's this about and how do i get the applications folder back and stable?
I've seen a video on youtube awhile back about opening all the dock apps at once. But now I'm having trouble finding it. Does anyone know how to open them all at once?
I'm having a strange problem with my dock and dashboard, whenever I add Items to either they quickly vanish, not allowing me to change them. With the dock, I can't add Flash CS4 to the dock, it will just appear, then disappear. With the dashboard, I can't add any widgets I've downloaded without the dashboard closing to desktop. I've tried reinstalling the widgets, no luck. Has anyone had this problem before, or know how to fix it?
I have no idea what happened. it was working fine last week, and then the other day I tried to open up iMovie and i get "The operation could not be completed / An unexpected error occurred (error code -10810)" This happens every time i try to open anything in my applications folder. the programs on my dock open up fine.
I am on a MacBook Pro and am encountering problems after the last Java upgrade on Lion. My dock will not appear when I rollover - so I have set it to show all of the time. I clicked on my widget icon to use the calculator, and nothing loaded. I was stuck on the screen and had to hard restart.

Is there a way to have a program open at login (I know, I know, select "open at login") but then NOT appear in the dock when it's open? I'd like to have my Garmin software always open but hate the cluttered space of having it open. I can always close it with Cmd+tab. I'm running Leopard 10.5.6.
I use a Voip application called Sipgate, and when I open Sipgate there is a Menubar icon and an icon in the dock. I would like to have this app open all the time but not show up in the dock, only in my menubar.
Is there a good app launcher that stays entirely in the top right system bar area, and does not need to be open in the dock to work? I'm very finicky about what's in my dock, and don't like having background utilities showing up in it.
I bought a macbook Pro 17" this August. This afternoon I found I can't open the applications in the dock. When I click an application icon, it doesn't start up, but instead the Application Window with a list of all my applications jumped out. But if I click the application icon in the Application Window, it will start up.
I am willing to start up the applications directly from the dock. Could anybody help me on it?
Another problem with my laptop is, everytime I left click a link in Safari, the link will open in a new tab of the same window. This problem came the same time as the last one.
