Applications :: DVD Player Doesn't Retain Zoom Presets?
Jul 18, 2009
I can't seem to get DVD Player to retain and use saved zoom settings for all disks. I have a Standard Def TV and don't like large bars at the top and bottom of the screen, so I use "Standard Display - Widescreen Mode" so I tried to Save the opreset and clicking the "Use for All Disks" check box. When I insert another disk, the zoom reverts to "Normal" (unzoomed) mode. I've tried deleting the DVD Player plist file, but that has no effect. I also tried unchecking the "Video Zoom" box under DVD Player Prefs (Previously viewed tab/Always use Disk settings), but that doesn't let the preset be used for all disks. Basically, the Save Preset option seems useless unless you view the same disk again.
I've had my G5 and my Dell 24" now since May and just stumbled onto this over the weekend.
Normally wide screen movies play default with the top and bottom blacked out following industry resolution standards. When you play a full screen movie the sides are blacked out.
I JUST found out that you can adjust the Video Zoom in either format to fill the screen.
You also have sound EQ options in the same menu.
Simply double click your upper left screen to show the DVD player menu go to Window and scroll down to
Video Zoom Video Color Audio Equaliser
You can also lock the aspect ratio
Now I can finally watch my wide screen movies widescreen/ full screen and it's awesome!
The EQ is also helpful if you want to bring out the dialogue boosting the voice frequencies.
I just "upgraded" to Lion and have noticed some annoying quirks. I can no longer zoom in Movies on DVD Player and am stuck watching movies in widescreen. Is there any way to reinstall an older version of DVD Player? Are there any alternate programs to watch DVD's (not converted, full versions) which allow zoom?
Info: MacBook Pro (17-inch 2.4 GHz), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I just upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. When I had the old Tiger software installed, I was able to zoom in and out on my screen by holding down the Control key while scrolling with my mouse.
But since I installed Leopard (not Snow Leopard, since I am using a G5 Tower PowerPC), this key combination no longer works.
This former screen zoom feature is important to me because I am a graphic designer with a neurological condition (tremors in my hands) that makes selecting fine points in graphic applications difficult unless I zoom in.
Note: using the normal graphics apps magnifying glass feature does not help me, because the select points still stay small, but using the old screen zoom method made the points larger and easier for me to select.
I tried setting a shortcut for "All Applications" -> "Zoom" so that I can have a keyboard shorcut for the green button/maximize button at the top (you can probably tell I just switched over from Windows). I set it to control+Z (^Z) and in FireFox when I look at the Window menu at the top I see "Zoom ^Z" like it should work, but it doesn't. When I click control+Z the Window menu at top sort of flashes/highlights real quick but the zoom function is not called. When I manually go to Window-->Zoom, it works.
've been using Real Player and the Real Player downloader to download YouTube video clips, and until yesterday all was fine. Yesterday evening however, the downloader decided to stop working and now just sits there doing nothing when I play a YouTube clip. Real Player itself works fine.
I've already trashed and reinstalled Real Player twice but to no avail. The odd thing is every time I've reinstalled it it has remembered the clips I'd been playing before I trashed it.
I bought a retina macbook pro (the uptated version of august). it is the mid 13inch version. unfortunately my trackpad does't zoom anymore in the safari... is it an option that toggled off or is it a problem that i am having???
Info: MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
When I visit websites, I constantly have to hit the zoom in button in the Safari menu bar. If I don't do this, there are words that overlap on the page. Is there a way I could make Safari remember my zoom options? I have 18 point selected under the Advanced section of Safari System Preferences. I also use Chrome and Chrome seems to remember my view options.

Just added 11 tracks to iTunes and was sorting them via the info Tab, name of track artwork etc, when adding artwork to the tracks some tracks refuse to retain the picture. Seven out of the 11 tracks refuse to retain the artwork to be exact. I have never had this happen before so a bit confused at the moment
i can not zoom in and zoom out in the finder's windows with the folders as in snow leopard i was able to make the folders bigger with the zoom pinch in and out but i was unable to do with it in mac lion
As a DJ, I rely heavily on iTunes' file-viewing options "Date Added" and "Date Modified" in order to gauge how old files in my collection are. However, each time I move files from my computer to my external, 'date added' and 'modified' reset. Clearly 'moving' files to an external is really copying them to an external, but maybe there is a way to copy library content while retaining or freezing the iTunes library's DATA connected to the content....? Is there a way to get iTunes to realize that the identical files previously on my computer are on the external with respect to 'date added?'
When copying a table from say a webpage or even a RTF file, Pages does not retain its table formatting. Instead it separates the rows and columns and puts them on separate lines.
See it for yourself, try copying one of the tables on this page into Pages [URL]
The only way I can get the table into Pages is to paste into NeoOffice (which retains the correct formating), save the file with the .doc extension then open in Pages.
Since upgrading to Mavericks, I cannot import DV vision through my Sony FX-1E. I have tried various connections - DV to Firewire 400 + 800 with no success. I now have to get the vision ingested at another facility and exported to a hard drive in order to edit. Is there a way I can get vision into FCP?
I've been using quite happily TightVNC on windows to connect my MP. Now I'm using MBP, so is there any decent VNC client for OsX where you can define zoom by % or slider. Preferably free or cheap. Apple's "Screen sharing" offers only scaling on or off, which are for me either too small or too big.
Just picked up my first ever mac (MBP 15" 2.8) yesterday and having fun setting it all up. Is it normal that when i switch to full screen mode in iPhoto the pinch the zoom function is fairly slow and there's loads of lag when dragging around the photo with 2 fingers? Hopefully I'm missing something cause i wasn't expecting any lag anywhere on this thing!
Is there a way through a third-party app that I can have display presets? I have three 17" Apple Displays and a 52" Sharp LCD. When I'm sitting at my desk I'd like to have my monitors setup one way but when I'm sitting in front of the 52" LCD I'd like things to be setup different. For instance, when at my desk, the middle monitor of the three Apple displays get my dock and Apple bar. I have spaces enabled and certain apps reside on certain monitors and spaces.
When I move in front of the 52" LCD, I'd like to kick in a preset that moves things around without having to manually do it each time in the System Settings. One idea I had was to create another user. Not bad on the surface but it's kind of hassle not having the same routing to my other user's documents folder. Plus my software starts getting wonky.
I'm a relatively new Mac user so I'm not sure if it's user ignorance or something is wrong with my computer but nothing happens when I insert a cd into the drive. Nothing shows up in iTunes, Finder, or on my desktop. Shouldn't I see an audio CD in iTunes? And if I put a blank DVD into the drive, shouldn't it show up in Finder so I can burn files to it?Â
I am getting ready to buy a new mbp. I currently have a mbp that I purchased 2 years ago. I did not create a backup to the factory setup when I first purchased the mbp. Would love some advice from more experienced members of the form on the following:
- is there still a way to restore my mbp to the factory presets?
- what programs do you recommend to wipe the sensitive data from your mbp before selling it on ebay? And how significant are the risks of selling your mpb on ebay after using the software?
- what should I do when I initially purchase my new mbp in anticipation of 2012 when I will likely want to purchase a new mbp and sell the old one? (ie, to make it easier to erase all of my data and restore it back to the factory presets)
if this has already been covered adequately, I apologize for re-posting, but I couldn't seem to find what I was looking for in my search.
I'm having a problem with iMovie 09. When I export a movie, the video will "zoom" which I don't want to have happen. Here's two pics of what's going on.
Is there a way to zoom out the viewing window of mac applications? I know for sure in safari I can zoom out, but it reverts to the original size as soon as I close out the window. I would really like to do this in safari and mail.
my DVD Player doesn't start anymore. Along with some other applications(iChat, iCal, Expose, Automator) it all of a sudden is only displayed with the default application icon - the thing with the ruler and the brush and stuff.
The other applications seem to work fine except of the wrong icon thing.
When I try to start my DVD Player a popup comes up that says in bold letters ?? and underneath that ??10.
Ever since I installed Lion I have had a problem opening attachments to emails which are videos. Most of them I can open with VLC and a few with WMV Player, but none with Quick Time. If they are on my iPad or iPhone I can open them with VLC and send them to others. If they are on my Macbook Air I cannot send them because the email goes without the attachment.
I've been having problems with my iMac recently, more precisely with my DVD drive. I think it's a software problem, and no mechanical problem. Let me explain:Â
When I insert a DVD:
- it will sometimes work perfectly. I can read, burn or whatever I feel like…
- it will sometimes not work. I don't know why, but the drive gives a few try (mechanical noises), and than ejects the DVD. If I try a few more times to reinsert it, it will sometimes just keep the DVD and not eject it, without recognizing it. When I try to open the Disk Utility program, it will simply froze. Or it will open after 5 minutes, but the DVD player will not exist and not appear.Â
I need to restart the computer. Sometimes it will work after the restart. Sometimes not. It's really random, and I haven't found out on what it depends… Sometimes, when I reboot it because of a trapped-unrecognized DVD, the DVD player will not open. "Initialization error [-70012]"…Â
I've tried Option-Cmd-P-R at the Start, but it didn't help… I feel like there's something wrong with the software.Â
It's a 2 years old iMac, using Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6.8).Â
I've tried looking on the net, but a lot of people are experiencing mechanical problems (it simply never works), which I think is not the case here (it does randomly work perfectly).
