I'm a relatively new Mac user so I'm not sure if it's user ignorance or something is wrong with my computer but nothing happens when I insert a cd into the drive. Nothing shows up in iTunes, Finder, or on my desktop. Shouldn't I see an audio CD in iTunes? And if I put a blank DVD into the drive, shouldn't it show up in Finder so I can burn files to it?

Ever since I installed Lion I have had a problem opening attachments to emails which are videos. Most of them I can open with VLC and a few with WMV Player, but none with Quick Time. If they are on my iPad or iPhone I can open them with VLC and send them to others. If they are on my Macbook Air I cannot send them because the email goes without the attachment.

've been using Real Player and the Real Player downloader to download YouTube video clips, and until yesterday all was fine. Yesterday evening however, the downloader decided to stop working and now just sits there doing nothing when I play a YouTube clip. Real Player itself works fine.
I've already trashed and reinstalled Real Player twice but to no avail. The odd thing is every time I've reinstalled it it has remembered the clips I'd been playing before I trashed it.
I experience this problem for 2 days now. The wi fi says it is connected and all the bars are full but id doesn't load a single page!
The internet i've got is vergin so normally is very fast.Downstairs where we have a desktop computer connected to the D-link is working as normal.
When I open the network diagnostics in mac it shows : wi fi is green , wi-fi settings is green, network settings is failed(red), ISP failed(red), Internet failed (red), server failed red.

I've been having problems with my iMac recently, more precisely with my DVD drive. I think it's a software problem, and no mechanical problem. Let me explain:
When I insert a DVD:
- it will sometimes work perfectly. I can read, burn or whatever I feel like…
- it will sometimes not work. I don't know why, but the drive gives a few try (mechanical noises), and than ejects the DVD. If I try a few more times to reinsert it, it will sometimes just keep the DVD and not eject it, without recognizing it. When I try to open the Disk Utility program, it will simply froze. Or it will open after 5 minutes, but the DVD player will not exist and not appear.
I need to restart the computer. Sometimes it will work after the restart. Sometimes not. It's really random, and I haven't found out on what it depends… Sometimes, when I reboot it because of a trapped-unrecognized DVD, the DVD player will not open. "Initialization error [-70012]"…
I've tried Option-Cmd-P-R at the Start, but it didn't help… I feel like there's something wrong with the software.
It's a 2 years old iMac, using Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6.8).
I've tried looking on the net, but a lot of people are experiencing mechanical problems (it simply never works), which I think is not the case here (it does randomly work perfectly).

After several attempts my firewire would not mount on the iMac desktop. After reading the forum, so I reset the PRAM and the SMC.
NOW, after rebooting the iMac after 3 or 5 minutes the external disk connect with a firewire 400 appear on the desktop with a spcial mention from my iMac " Could not repair the external disk !?
Even though the disc is NEW and formated on the same machine two hours early!

The only way can restart my Intel iMac27" desktop is to reach around at the back bottom left of the computer and hold the button down for about 6 seconds, If I don[t I just get the spinning wheel. After I restart manyally I get the gray apple logo and the same spinning wheel - and then it startsup fine. Reinstalled software several times.

Every once in a while my sound just either stops working, or won't come on when I begin to play something. I try moving the volume up & down, turning things on & off, plugging and unplugging headphones, etc, and there seems to be no consistent method to get it back to functioning... I have a firewire 400 camera that i'm using for a project and one firewire 800 slot on my iMac (Late 2009). When I plug the camera in, nothing responds no matter what I do - tried resetting the PRAM and SMC. Compare this to my older iMac (Late 2007) which has both firewire 800 and 400 ports. I plug it in and it pops up using the underlying Quicktime controller api on either the 800 or 400 port no problem. So I figured after trying to install a firewire camera library (libdc1394) which I need for my project which didn't work, that it must be a hardware issue, so I took it to the Apple store. The genius at the store booted the OS (Lion) from a firewire drive via 400 to 800 cable (no external power to the f/w drive was used) and then using the spare 400 slot on the hard drive, he plugged (daisy chaining) in my camera and it loaded! So this suggested 2 things - my OS is corrupt or my card can't read straight from my device but why a hard drive in between would change this is beyond me. I came home and installed OS X on to an external USB hard drive and loaded up from it - so this is a fresh version of Lion, there should be no software issues. Plug the camera in to the I/O board of the iMac but load the OS from the external USB hard drive - nothing happens, the profiler doesn't detect anything at all. On a side note, I installed XP and Ubuntu Linux and they also can't detect it, which further suggests its the device or I/O board when interfacing directly with this camera. I've tried providing the devices with external power, daisy chaining 2 cameras, using a usb hub....nothing works. Just for good measure, I tried to boot Lion off the external USB on my older iMac and again, it worked no problem, which to me really narrows it down to the hardware.
I feel like perhaps the port is a bit dodgy and when the genius daisy chained it, it worked better, but no idea why. Someone said I should get a firewire 400 to usb adaptor
In prep for moving to the "Cloud", I downloaded Lion last night without the knowledge that my 2005 version of Office would no longer be supported. Silly me, now I need to either switch to IWORKS or something else, immediately, so I can get back to work. If I download IWORKS or LIBRE will I be able to open my OFFICE files that are already on my computer?

I was installing windows with Bootcamp.so i started the installation process got past partition and now i am stuck on select cd-rom boot type no key board or mouse will work and i cannot eject the windows cd everytime i restart it goes to this screen..I tried a dell keyboard with usb and that didn't work any other suggestions.i feel like if i eject the cd it will help i just want to get back to Lion and all that awesome stuff on my computer.

I have an iMac G3 keyboard that I'm trying to use with my MacBook, it works PERFECT, except when I press caps lock it just stops working. Also, when I first plug it in the Caps Lock light flashes green for just a split second. Is there any chance of getting hold of some software that would help?

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy DVD Player doesn't start anymore. Along with some other applications(iChat, iCal, Expose, Automator) it all of a sudden is only displayed with the default application icon - the thing with the ruler and the brush and stuff.
The other applications seem to work fine except of the wrong icon thing.
When I try to start my DVD Player a popup comes up that says in bold letters ?? and underneath that ??10.
I insert a DVD in my mac book pro, the dvd player pops up but i cant get the player to play.

I told myself not to do it. Don't update the Safari software to 4.0, you know how they always mess up these things. And yet, per accident I did. Of course Safari 4.0 doesn't work. Every time I open it, it shuts down. iChat also doesn't work anymore, and even the Dashboard shuts down every now and then. In addition, the computer feels incredibly slow. I can't download rapidshare links on iGetter anymore and everything just feels wrong. Countless threads have been opened on this matter with a variety of different problems for different people. Yet I have not read a proper solution. I have seen all kinds of technical solutions being offered but I'm not a computer wiz and I do not know the terms they use. I just want to go back to Safari 3.2 or at least the one before the 4.0 But I read that deleting Safari 4 and reinstalling 3.2 won't work because of a certain webkit that got installed with it, making it impossible to go back.
