Applications :: Any Way To Remotely Control Vista PC Via MacBook?
Feb 24, 2009
I was wondering if there is any built in or simple way to control my desktop pc (which is running vista 32bit) via my macbook running on OSX 10.5.6? I have heard of LogMeIn but I feel like there should be an easier built in way, I know on Windows you have a program to connect to other computers remotely.
My in-laws bought a Macbook Air and I would like to be able remotely control their Mac. Can I do this inexpensively? I saw the remote desktop - but that looks like it is for net administrators.
I am looking for a program or a way of taking control of a mac. I would be at home and the computer I would be working with would be at my job. I work for a print company and I would work with adobe cs4, quark and suitcase remotely. First of all is this possible and if yes how to do it. The company will pay for the software necessary to accomplish this.
Does smcFanControl would able to control the fan at same rpm before boot up into vista? When I changed the rpm of fan to higher (3,000 rpm) under Mac OS X then boot up into Vista then it would be same rpm (3,000 rpm) what I was set or force back to default (back to 1,200 rpm)?
I recently installed 64-bit Vista in a Boot Camp partition. Then Parallels and everything is perfect except...
When I insert a DVD now, Windows automatically takes control of the drive. The only way for me to view the contents of that drive is to shut down Vista in Parallels and then reinsert the disk. Then OS X sees it and fires it up.
Now Ive plugged in other devices like my external drive, and I get a little pop up which asks which system I want to use the device with. Is there a way to get that for DVDs as well?
I'm running Windows vista ultimate on my Imac and lately the mouse started acting weird on Vista, it's jumping around and moving unpredictable, and also i use windows in spaces, and i can't switch to spaces anymore until i click control + command, please let me know what the problem is, ohh i'm running a USB G9 Logitech mouse.
I know that the Vista score thing is pretty useless, but I am curious what mine is. Is there a way to get a Vista score without having to actually buy and install that rubbish?
I currently have 2 mac. I am using the second mac as a webserver and just want to be able to connect to it remotely so I don't need a monitor. What is the best program to use to remotely connect to my second mac?
how can i remotely control a windows pc from my mac, over the internet?i am looking for software based options.and the same time im looking for the reverse option of connected to my mac from a pc over the internet.
I have installed 'Remote Desktop Connection for Mac' on my MacBook as I am looking into being able to remotely control my Windows PC which is in the same house. I don't have a physical network setup, however I wondered if I could control the PC via the WWW on my Mac?
I am doing a project in iMovie. I have it all finished and ready to go. I'm going to integrate it with iDVD to make it look nice and I would like to burn it onto DVD.
Now, I have no SuperDrive with my MacBook Air. However, I have desktop computer that has Windows on it that the MacBook Air uses as a Remote Disk.
Now, will my MacBook Air be able to burn a DVD remotely? If not, could I just copy the file over to my Window's desktop computer and burn it from there, or will that be a compatibility issue?

I keep getting messages like this. I am under the impression a host has created a carbon framework.
I have about 80GB at home, on my Windows machine. I use an Airport Extreme router. Is there anyway for me to access this library remotely on my MBA so that I don't have to have all the music cluttering up this poor little SSD hard drive?
At my workplace, another person needs to access my MacBook Pro running Leopard for things like printing, launching applications, creating and viewing files etc..Is it possible for him to do that from a PC without me sharing the screen with him? As I already tried, vpn doesn't work. Can he remotely access the mac with another user without interfering with my work?
I just got the 15" henge dock last week [URL]. I hooked it up and working fine. the power, keyboard and mouse are attached. while docked, MBP is in sleep mode, and pressing the keyboard will wake it up.My macbook is connected to remote access via internet, i use logmein. However, while the monitor is turn off, is there anyway to wake the macbookpro and remotely controlled via internet?I think i was able to wake it up but it wont connect, since it looks like you need physically touch the keyboard or mouse to wake up the macbook pro.Â
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), docked with henge dock
Are there any processes, such as updates or App store downloads, that would cause the serial number to be automatically collected? Does the serial number ever get sent to Apple without explicitly entering it? I ask because I am interested in privacy.
I got a notice of an update for SMCFanControl to version 2.1.3.1. I installed it, and when it ran my fans went faster and louder than ever before! Normally surfing the web they were around 2000rpm. After the update SMC reported 7300rpm! I didn't even think they could go that fast.
I'm looking for something similar to the windows vista sidebar ( the 'widgets' on the right hand side of the desktop. The mac ones are all pretty much different sizes and it dosn't give that ' neat look'.
I want to see the screen of a Tiger machine on my Leopard machine - the Tiger machine is not on a local network but is on the internet. I have Apple remote Desktop 3.2, maybe leopards ichat will do it?
I have a MacBook pro (pre-2008 update), and recently had to reinstall smc fan control after trying out another fan control app i thought might be better. After finding out that smc was the way to go, i reinstalled it. After reinstalling smc, it was never working properly like it was before i uninstalled it. When I make a favorite and then set that favorite on the menubar, the fans kick up to the speed i set it to for about 3 seconds then they return to the normal 2000 rpms. nothing I do can fix this. i have tried reinstalling, reinstalling different versions etc.
ways to use osx and its applications, besides keyboard and mouse.
I know about speech recognition. Recently I found about opera browser gesture-based internet surfing.
Maybe there are other programs that use isight in order to take commands from our face expressions. Of course, from hardware side, there is also trackball, tablet surfaces etc
I find that, more often than not, my MBP (late 08) gets incredibly hot and overheated). So I heard about this program smcFanControl and have been using it since, and it really does a good job keeping my computer cool.I have the left/right fans running at 6000 RPM (the max), is is SAFE for my fans to be running that fast? Will it significantly lower the longevity of the fans/computer at all?
I am trying to create a manual which includes some screen snaps which fit on A4 paper, but TextEdit persistently has fat margins and won't print the images that are wider than width allowed by the margins.
The screen grabs appear on screen but when I print the document the wider images do not print although they leave a gap in the text equal to their height.
I have:
Adjusted the preferences:
for window width which is in No of Characters (how wide is a character when you are using rtf?)
checked Wrap to window which shows a page view but the margins don't change
I have created an entire new page in Page Setup with fixed margins and selected it but nothing changes
Mac Help says the margins can be altered by dragging the page margin markers in the ruler, but they will not drag outside what seems to be the default margins, This wouldn't help with top and bottom margins anyway.
I have tried using Acrobat PDF as the printer but again I get no further options and nothing changes.
I am at my wits end. TextEdit is almost temptingly useful except for the weird UI.
A while back I installed Fan Control on my MacBook Pro 2,4 GHz. Since then I have processed to at least two clean install of Leopard. From what I have read, the application is located in the MBP firmware. So I have a couple of questions for you: - How do I uninstall Fan control? - Well should I be stuck with it then, I am not sure I really understand how to use it:
I am reading: Fan control: Base speed: 1500RPM Lower Threshold: 50C Upper Threshold: 80C
Current values: Left fan: 1593 RPM Right fan: 1600 RPM Temperature: 47,5C
Are these settings OK? What types of configurations would be dangerous for my machine?
I have plugged a Windows XP notebook into my home stereo, installed iTunes on it and have it streaming music from my other Windows XP box upstairs. Everything works perfectly. What I'd like is a suggestion on a make/model remote control (you know, like the tv remote you use every day) that will allow me to do simple operations in iTunes like Next Song, Back, etc.
I have the Apple Mac Mini remote control but it, by default, will not talk to my Windows hardware because there is no Infrared Port (as far as I know). It's not the easiest thing to google. I would assume I could find a Remote Control package that includes the Remote, an Infrared Receiver (that plugs in via USB), and some baseline software for under $30 somewhere.
It needs to be a USB port because I do not have an RS232 jack on my laptop (Dell Mini9). On a side note, I have to say, this setup I created is THE BEST way to stream iTunes music down to my stereo. I have tried numerous products for the past 10 years ranging from Tivo to Logitech's Squeezebox2 and nothing compares to simply 2 computers sharing iTunes. I got the Dell Mini9 for $302 to my door!
Does anyone know of a way to remote control a mac from a web page (with a Java applet or something) that is actually on your computer. I know LogMeIn can be used, but then all of the data goes through the LogMeIn server, and I would like a server that I can run on my mac, independently from any other server.
I have a macbook and an apple remote and an iPod touch. Is there any way that I can control pdf slideshow (through preview) from an iPod touch app / mac apps that controls the remote? My iRed Lite does not work with snow leopard anymore =(
I tried googling and couldn't find anything useful...
