I was wondering what the best way for me access the hard drive on my time capsule?
I have a PowerBook G4 that i leave at home and travel with my MacBook.
Is there a way for me to access my time capsule HD through my PowerbooK remotely ...from my MacBook while on the road?
Can i do this using "Back to my MAC" or Is there a while to dial in IP address's directly?
So i went into airport utility and enabled access disk via internet, enabled file sharing etc.
i put some movie clips and a couple of songs and files i wanted to access on there when im not at home.
music playback is fine....and editing PSD files off the disk is fine but movie playback is choppy at best...some of them are 20minute TV shows in both AVI and MP4 format tried in both itunes and vlc same scenario
i access the disk via various macs via Command+K enter my IP address.
(btw how do i get the same access to it via a windows based PC?)
is there a way to get a good stream remotely? i tried via ethernet and 802.11n wireless
I have my time capsule setup (green light and all). I can backup to it. I can access it and its folders from my new MBP. I can run the windows (and/or apple) Airport Utility and see and configure the TC within the utility but I cannot access it like a network drive on the XP box. I thought I saw somewhere to enter a workgroup name for PC networks but can't find it now.

Wouldn't it be great, given the small-ish capacity of the MBA's HD, to keep all your files (music, pictures, videos,...) on the Time Capsule and being able to access from anywhere in the world, as long as you have an internet connection ?

So i know if you enable wan sharing you can access your time capsule's drive outside your network by going to finder > GO > and typing in [URL]
But what if i am on a PC using windows which does not have afp, is there any way to access it then?
so I have a time capsule that works flawlessly as a wireless router/storage device and plays very nicely with my macbook. I also have a work PC running XP. I dowloaded Bonjour for the PC so I could print to the printer connected to the TC from the PC. That all works fine, but how can I access the hard drive on the TC from the PC wirelessly? I can't seem to make this work. Anyone know how to do this with an XP machine?

We have a 1TB Apple Time Capsule for documents like invoices, client agreements, etc. Sometimes during video shoots we need certain files like scripts, schedules, inventory lists, etc. How can I view the documents on the Time Capsule via mobile Safari on my iPhone? I don't want to use my MobileMe iDisk b/c we have more than 10GB of files. And it needs to be through the Time Capsule bc we don't want to deal with duplicate files if we had copies on DropBox or iDisk.
Does anyone know of a simple way to set up a VNC server on OS X so that the computer can be accessed through an in-browser Java applet? I found a guide here, but it seems to be rather out of date.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI currently have a external hard drive on my wireless network and when I point two computers to the itunes library on that hard drive at the same time the second computer says the library is locked or I don't have permission to access the file. If I close the library on the first computer I can access the library just fine on the second.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI started my backup over 24 hours ago and after it completed its 130GB backup, it has now continued backing up endlessly incrementing the xxGB of xxGB without end. I stopped the backup and it then began at 140.9MB to backup. Once it reached 149.9MB it continued; displaying 149.9 MB of 149.9 MB. It is currently at 502.4 MB of 502.4 MB. I am using Snow Leopard. Has anyone seen this happen before? Or know how to resolve?

I used to monitor the disk space on an old external HD with iStat, but I can't even do that with my Time Capsule.
I've got a time capsule setup and I'm trying to keep my iTunes library on the time capsule drive to keep my MacBook hard drive free. I keep pointing the file path in settings to the library file on the time capsule but it will randomly fall back to the default location on my hard drive with no warning. Is there anyway I can make sure it STAYS pointed to the time capsule? It's a pain to have all my songs come up with "!" and have to go and fix the path in settings again and watch it "update" everything and reorder the files and then work fine again.
The time capsule is hosting my internet network so the second I step into my house I connect to that network so I would think iTunes never has to search for it and not find it for some reason. However, I would also like to have iTunes setup to see my library on time capsule when I'm out in the wild and talking to it over the internet. I haven't set up time capsule yet to be seen over the internet but I plan to do that tonight, I'm just wondering if I'll have to change the iTunes path every couple days back to my remote drive instead of it's default path.
I am planning on purchasing a mac mini solely for the purpose of playing music - it will be hooked up to a hi-fi amplifier and speakers. All of the music that will be on the computer will be in lossless format, which is very large. I will need a lot (320+ GB?) of storage.
I'm wondering if I can cut costs by buying an old 80 GB mini and augmenting its hard drive with a time capsule. I was planning on buying a time capsule anyway, so I could save something like $300. My questions are: would I be able to stream music from the time capsule to the mac mini? Would I be able to import music from itunes directly onto the time capsule? If I hook the mini up to the time capsule via USB, can it serve as a hard-drive, even if my internet is down? Is it going to be much more worth my time to buck up and buy a new 320 GB mini?
I have a 500GB time capsule that I sue to host my iTunes music and library. I pointed iTunes to the TC folder where the music is. Then I did control+click on the iTunes icon and pointed iTunes to the library which is also located at the TC. As long as I don't restart the computer it works fine, I can open and close iTunes and it finds the library ok. But every time I restart the computer I have to tell iTunes where the library is. Is there any way to configure iTunes so it does not "forget" the library's location?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have several 1-2yr old MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and up-to-date patches etc. They are on the same network as a Windows Active Directory Domain, managed by Small Business Server 2003. There are approx 50 PC clients and these two macs.
The macs are not 'joined' to the domain and simply exist as nodes on the subnet. They get their IP from the domain controller and their DNS points to the DNS server/Domain Controller. The users have AD credentials that they use to connect to and use domain shared drives and resources. There is no problem getting list of computers however...
I am experiencing LONG delays (10-30 seconds) when trying to browse active directory shared resources.
If the user clicks on a domain PC that has shared resources, the list of resources take forever to appear. Once it does appear, access to the resources is fast. If another program is opened and the user browses the network for resources, despite the fact that they already have a connection to the domain resource, there is another LONG delay before the resources are displayed again.
The problem is not wrong credentials as they are not being challenged to re-authenticate... it just seems to hang until something times out and then it tries whatever method ultimately gets the mac to talk to the NTFS domain shares.
I have a new MacBook Pro and instead of restoring it from a previous Time Machine backup, I was hoping I could access part of the backup and copy some contents on to the new MacBook Pro. Can it be done?
For example, my Time Machine backup has 80gb of music in it, can I access that from my new MacBook Pro and copy the music?

But I have been doing manual backups, transferring files myself to Time Capsule and to an USB drive. It's mostly document, media files. If I backup using Time Machine, can I access those files individually? Or is it just going to be one big chunk of a file? Are there any trustworthy syncing programs between my computer and an external hard drive or in my case Time Capsule?

When I go to open, I receive the following message "The folder (whatever the name is) can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents." I understand that the system I want to transfer to is different, but is there -- shouldn't there be an override asking for the password.
Since I am the administrator to both systems, I would hope I could see the documents that I created.

I have an external 500gb drive plugged into my brand new Time Capsule. The 500gb drive basically stores my entire library of music and my iTunes points to this external drive.
Is it possible to have time machine backup all information on the 500gb drive to the time capsule, so encase the external drive takes a dump, I don't loose my entire music library? Maybe time machine is already doing this, I am not sure.
I will be getting my new Macbook Pro in the near future and am very interested in using Time Machine to wireless back up my data to an external hard drive. I know I can use Time Capsule to do this, but also hear a mention of just getting an Airport Extreme and my own ext. hd. My question is that I have Verizon FIOS Internet and my modem also functions as a wireless router. How would the Time Capsule/Airport Extreme work with this? Is it possible? I do not believe that the Verizon router supports wireless N, and I would like to take advantage of the faster speeds. If I were to connect a Airport Extreme to the wireless router, would I then have 2 routers to choose from and just use the Airport Extreme to use the wireless N? I'm very confused as to how I could make this work.

When it comes to Apple routers I am looking at 2 options - either the base station with an external USB drive or get a 1TB capsule with the buildt in drive and worries regarding reliability.
What I like about the Time Capsule is that it is neat to have all in one, takes up less space and only has 1 plug to attach, while Iike the idea that I can just connect a bigger drive later on the base station solution.
1. Will the connected USB drive function just like the internal drive in the Time Capsule for Time Machine use?
2. Will everything be transparent to Snow Leopard?
3. In case of both units with an attached USB drive - can I control who actually can see the drive and access it?

I recently purchased a Time Capsule to use as a wireless hard drive. I connect to the internet both through wifi and ethernet to a educational network that does not allow extra routers, etc, to be added to the network, therefore I can not use the time capsule for this wifi.
I therefore want to connect to my early 2009 MBP17unibody to both the academic internet network for http/pop3/ftp/etc while simultaneously connecting to external hard drive to store data/itunes-library/etc.
I expect this has been asked before but I can't find any threads where it has. If anyone knows it would be highly helpful. I'd prefer to connect to both wirelessly but I could potentially put up with connecting to either or both with ethernet.
