So I'm stealing someones wireless internet with my macbook and have my itunes open. I turned off "share my library on my local network". However, I see their library on my itunes. Would they know that I am playing their music or even know that I'm using their internet?
View 2 RepliesI have a Mac Pro desktop and a Macbook with (mostly) duplicate music on. But there is some music I only have on one or the other. Most uploaded from CDs and some bought from itunes, Amazon etc. Each has about 20GB each but as I said it's mostly the same. I want to do a complete clean re-install on the Macbook and then not take up its HD space with music, just use Home Sharing via the desktop/airtunes. Apart from literally going alphabetically through both, is there a neat way of comparing, to make sure that when I clean off the Macbook I don't miss something that isn't on the pro?
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy new MacBook pro came in the mail yesterday, so today I decided to import music from my parents MacBook to mine, I turned on home, both computers are authorized, we are both using the same account, both firewalls are off, but I can't connect to the MacBook. I have the search for shared libraries on and theirs is too we're on the same network and all that, but their library won't appear! Anyone know what to do? I have read everything on apple and they haven't helped a little.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have my iTunes library stored on a NAS, UNRAID, and I currently do not have my files copied into the iTunes library. They reside on the UNRAID in a movies and movies folder, so the iTunes library itself is fairly small.
However, this is what I would like to do. Since I have several AppleTV and several other Macs running. I'd like to keep one Mac on 24/7 and have iTunes open all the time pointed to my NAS iTunes.

I have all my music stored on a Vista machine. I share that library with my Macbook Pro. When i open itunes on the macbook it recognizes the library on my vista machine and i enter the password and everything is fine for about 90 seconds. Then it just drops the connection and the shared library disappears. Any ideas? anyone else have this problem? It's not a network problem because i can still access the internet and stuff after this happens.
iTunes skips songs when I try to listen to a shared library from my Mac Pro, on my MacBook Pro.
This always happens when trying to "fast-forward" through a song (it'll skip to the next song).
I'm assuming that this is some kind of networking issue, because if I let the song play long enough, for what I perceive as enough time to transfer the song entirely from one computer to the other, it won't skip to the next song when fast-forwarding.
The two computers are in adjacent rooms, connected wirelessly via an AEBS on 802.11N (g compatibility mode).
Just setting up all my sweet new mac product. I am wanting to access my files that are shared on my pc remotely on my MacBook. Im just not sure what application to use to do so. Basically just want access to all my music and video.

I managed to connect to my win 7 pc, but it is requesting a password that is never accepted by mac os. It never accepted my win7 network password so i could not access files.

I can read all the files but just can't put stuff on it. It says I don't have the rights to that. I have found that when I try to let me external be read & write by everyone in the system preferences on my mac I can not change it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have two users on my mac and am having some issues with sharing files. I created a shared folder and gave the other user read/write permissions. When I log in as that user, the folder can be accessed, but some of the files in that folder cannot be accessed. These are all photos, and for the most part I'm dropping them into the shared folder from iPhoto. Â
I tried it again by using the Public folder with the same result. However, there isn't consistency with the actual files that don't have permission. In other words, the shared folder I created may have a file that does not have permission, but that same file does have permission when I dropped it in the Public folder. So it is totally random as to which files in the shared folder don't have permission to be accessed. Â
I also tried to simply drag the files to the other user. Same result.
I have a new MBP (running Lion) and an older MacBook (running Leopard). I'd like both to run Time Machine to a shared external hard drive which I think I've worked out. My question is whether or not TM will store duplicate versions of the same files (particularly photos, videos, etc.) on the external hard drive, thus using up the EHD capacity more quickly, or will one file be saved and just recognized as being on both computers by TM.

I found my personal web page by going through utilities, but not sure how to get anything on it. I have created a file (website file in Lightroom 4) that I want to share via internet. How do I get it on my personal web site on my Mac and how do I share that file with other computer users. No one has answered the question yet at support. I am told I have to purchase a web hosting service but isn't there a way to share large files via internet with the Imac software installed on my computer? I don't want to purchase a domain!

I recently upgraded my pc to vista. When i was using xp, my macbook (running leopard) picked up my shared folders on my home network just fine, and several other wireless networks... now despite having the shared folders in vista set up and the network configured... leopard is showing nothing....its as if there's no network there.
the internet runs fine (on the network) but it won't access my shared files.. so there are no network problems, its a software issue either with vista or leopard... what am i doing wrong?
I have the most recent iMac and Macbook Pro on my home network. I'm sharing files between machine and both are using WiFi through a Linksys Router. I have video files (avi's) on one machine that I'm playing on the other machine. The files play no problem but their is an intermittent halting. I probably wouldn't call it a stutter exactly. It stops playing and the screen halts at a particular frame, and then after a bit it starts playing again. I'm wondering if this is normal behaviour or if I have something setup incorrectly on my network. Also, I'm wondering what the solution to this is other than copying the files from one machine to the other.

A couple of months ago I was at the head office and connected to the in house Wifi. When I did, a bunch of shared drives or folders showed in my finder under "Shared". I figured no biggie, when I got away from the head office they'd go away. But they didn't. And I can't figure out how to get rid of them.See attached photo.

I have a NAS hard wired to a wireless router. The Mac sees all the folders and files just fine and can read/write.I have a Vista Home Premium PC hard wired to the same wireless router. The Users Folder is shared with full privileges as are the individual users folders. The firewall is off. It runs no "security software".
The Mac can see the Vista PC and also see the Users individual account folders but when I open them I can't see any of the files.I really don't know what direction to go. The Vista PC networked fine with an older Toshiba laptop that the Mac replaced.
after recent upgrades my iphone 3GS cannot play music shared by iTunes on my Mac. Both are connected to the same wifi network. Don't know (forgot to test) if this is 10.6 or 5.1 fault.When trying to connect to shared library I see only half of the grey circle and then stopped and in the result there is nothing in library.

My former laptop has met with a terrible, horrific demise and unfortunately is no longer even operable. It contained several thousand songs, most of which I burned down from my old CD collection over the years. The rest I had purchased. I am now sharing a MB Pro with my S/O and want to transfer what is on my phone to his library. Â
I was successful in transferring the purchased items to his iTunes, but not the other songs. I also want to transfer a ringtone I have created in his personal library to my phone, but can't determine how to do that. Nothing I do seems to work and I've been researching the inter webs for days...Â
My other question is this: if I only check "sync tones" when conducting a sync and leave all of the other sync options unchecked, will it erase all of the songs on my phone, or just my current ringtones? I don't care about the old ringtones, they are easy enough to recreate, but obviously I would be devastated to lose what little I have left of my personal music collection!Â

How about fixing this one apple, when viewing/listening to a dvd/cd from a shared itunes library via front row, the artwork (CD covers/DVD Box Art) is blank. This worked in the leopard betas' but never has worked since release. I thought Apple was all about the experience, I guess they don't care about Front Row and shared libraries.
View 7 Replies View RelatedLast night when I went into Itunes there was a basicly a hd in my shared folder with a couple hundred tunes and movies on it that I had never seen before. I actually clicked on a couple and they worked, I watch a bit of a movie. so I know I wasn't seeing things !
My scenerio is I live and work in a hotel. The HD in the shared folder had a name "colb's mp4". Since I could, I checked the hotel registry and saw the registered name in the room across from me was Colby......
How did he do this and how can I prevent this from happening again? My room has a hard wired connection and as far as I can tell he has a wirless connection??
Here is my problem: I want to access my iTunes library from a shared drive.
Here is my equipment:
1. Imac running iTunes 10.6
2. 1 week old Macbook Air running iTunes 10.6
3. 1 Timecapsule that is 1 day old, bought with the express purpose of putting my extensive iTunes library on it, and was assure I would be able to stream it.
4. An Airport express hooked to my stereo.
The concept was that the Air doesn't really have the capability to hold all my music, but I want to use it as a "remote" to select songs through iTunes and play them on my stereo. I did NOT want to leave my iMac on at all times and do homes haring that way.Therefore, I followed intructions fonund else where and moved my iTunes library from my iMac to the newly installed shared drive on the Time Capsule.I went into iTunes on the Air selected preferences, advanced, and changed the location of the Air's iTunes library to that of the one on the Time Capsule. It sees all the music. I close preferences.
I just finished exporting a movie from FCPX as a .mov. From there, I shared it with iTunes. I've tried sharing it with iTunes 3 times and each time when it finishes, the movie won't play. It's just a black screen with no audio. The timeline moves but no video. I've done this many times before and all of my other videos play fine. This video is about an hour and a half and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. All of my other videos I've shared with iTunes, that play fine, are shorter. The longest is 25 minutes.

I need to share the iTunes library (and iphoto eventually) so I dont have to double-up everything.
I have tried dragging the Itunes Music into the shared folder... and creating aliases as described in various places on the web and in magazines, but this simply does not work. No tracks appear in my wife's itunes. There is not even 'shared library' icon on the left hand side.
Shared drive on Mac has incorrect Apple ID and I cannot get into iTunes using either password.

My wife and I share an iMac with 2 user accounts. If I install some programs while logged into my account, will she have access to them also?
I'd want her to have access to all programs and she is set up as a administrator on the iMac.
