IMac :: Stuck Pixels After Snow Leopard Upgrade?
Jan 13, 2010
First off, I have a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 1GB of memory. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard from Tiger. I was able to complete the upgrade with relative ease, but my screen now has a complete vertical line of dead pixels running down the right side of my screen. I don't understand how installing Snow Leopard would cause dead pixels!?

I just confirmed it myself. I had a myriad of colorful "blobs" all over my iSight. I only noticed them really when I put my hand over the iSight so the image was BLACK. But, like the patch notes said, this update fixes them! They are ALL GONE. So for people complaining about stuck/dead pixels etc with your iSight, update to 10.6.3! I'm guessing the update maps them out, somehow. Very cool stuff.

My ock is on auto-hide and when it hides, it leaves a few pixels. Some times there are a lot of them, sometimes there are only a few. See attached picture. I don't know what's causing them, but it's bugging me.

So after waiting 4 weeks my High-res Glossy MBP FINALLY arrived...I was so happy. Got home switched it on and WOW it really is a beautiful machine...After using it for about 30 mins however i noticed a small dot to the lower right half of the screen... I looked closer and realized it was either a dead or stuck pixel( I dont exactly know the difference). I did a few test on it, and its ONLY visible when a light color is on the screen (White, Gray etc) However when the screen is DARK blue, Dark green or black it cant be seen at all...
It kind of looks like a TINY speck of water or liquid the size of 1 pixel stuck under the glass... I noticed that it does get lighter and darker when i adjust the brightness of the screen. Can anybody give me some tips? Anything i can do to fix it? Is it in fact a dead or a stuck pixel? I tried the JSscreen fix which is basically a online tool that opens up a flashing screen...Ive had it on for about 30 mins...but no luck

I have a few stuck pixels on my screen which i know is inevitable, but I've heard these can be fixed with flashing programs. I came across this and was wondering if anyone has had any success or has any insight on this.
[URL] is the link to the pixel flasher thing. I already tried the pressure technique found here [URL]...an-LCD-Monitor but it didn't work, unless I didn't do it right. I didn't want to press too hard.

I bought an 21.5" iMac a while back, and today I noticed it has 3 dead or stuck pixels, I know there is a difference between the two but either way I cannot get it to come back to life.. and basically I'm a bit pissed now =/.. I would go to the apple store but the problem is there is not one here locally.. However there is a Apple guy at my local Futureshop.. could he handle this type of thing? (I didn't buy it at futureshop btw).. I want a replacement if its possible, switched from a PC and payed quite a bit more for this lower end iMac.. I basically downgraded, and I can't stand that it has 3 dead/stuck pixels..

After installing SL yesterday on my iMac, after a few hours, my right/down arrows began "activating" and repeating. At first I thought it was only happening in Finder, but it just came out of sleep while in Safari and was repeating the Submarine echo like crazy. I've restarted and also unplugged the keyboard thinking maybe it just some random error, but nothing. The only "cure" seems to be actually tapping the down/right arrow keys while the glitch is happening.
UPDATE: I'm in the middle of re-installing snow leopard and I used a hot corner to turn the monitor off and about 10 seconds in, the repeating key began again and monitor popped back on. wtf?!

I'm trying to upgrade my iMac 9.1 from leopard to snow leopard. The machine covers the needs (intel processor, more than 1 Gb of ram , more than 5 Gb free) but when I click in "Install MacOS" the message "MacOS X snow Leopard can't be installed in this computer" appears.

So i have an Imac from around 2006, id IMac 7,1 with no upgrades, just the basic. Its currently on 10.5.8 software (Leopard), but i do have the dvd disc for snow leopard (10.6). Is it possible to upgrade the software on the mac, as i heard it wasnt from a friend. Also if i can use the disc to upgrade, what would happen to all the programmes (e.g word, photoshop) and pictures, videos etc. or would it be totally fine?

if any of you have any stuck or dead pixels on your machines? I have a blue one and it's sh*tting me up the wall. I tried everything, the website that just flashses all the different colours, the damp cloth and then tapping it trick... turning it of and on and applying pressure, all of them to no avail. Anyone else have any pixel issues? Also when looking at my MBA from the side when the screen is closed there is quite a big gap between the keyboard (bottom half) and screen (top half) it's closed and tight towards the thin end, but towards the bigger end the gap gets quite large, about 4-5mm...should i put a book on it or something to try and flatten it out?

I don't know about you, but Snow Leopard's aurora is so much cooler. I used a program called "Desktop 2 Login" to change the default wallpaper for the login screen to a different wallpaper. Using this same program I changed it back to L's Aurora. (Still in 10.5). When I upgraded to snow leopard, the login wallpaper did not change. It is still stuck on L's aurora. I have used about every method besides Terminal, and it won't change.

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.
However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.
My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?
Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?
I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.

I'm currently using a MBP 13 inch and am running Leopard on it.
I just bought a copy of snow leopard today but i don't know if I should do a direct upgrade from leopard to snow leopard, or wipe my MBP and do a fresh install so i have snow leopard on a clean slate.
Have any of you tried the second option before? Or do any of you have advice on which path I should take?

My MBP(#1) is stuck in grey screen. I've tried 4 or 5 of the steps suggested to get the computer to boot up. I used Target Disk Mode to copy hard disk files to my other MBP(#2), then inserted the Mac OSX install disk, then turned off the MBP(#1) and restarted with the C key held down. Instead of getting the OSX installation, it remained grey and gave me repeating 3-beeping sounds. What does this mean?

I am curious about the system requirement of Snow Leopard. Since the performance and speed are better on SL, I think Snow Leopard will consume a little bit more resource of our macs., although I know Snow Leopard is just only the refinement of the software.
So, my question is that WILL YOU UPGRADE YOUR RAM OF YOUR MAC?
