for the last week or so my MBA has been showing a ~3 inch bar running vertically along the middle-left of the display. Until today, the area looked just like blurry pixels (some things like graphics would still appear, so I don't believe the problem is with the pixels themselves). Now the area has become a gray bar of pixels.
View 3 RepliesOver the last week, my 7 year old Powerbook G4 began showing faint pixels in the background which is more obvious if you are scrolling over menus also when a menu is highlighted. Unfortunately this seems to be affecting DVD playback because it will show blinking green vertical lines inside Front Row. This image within OS X 10.5.8 will show what I mean: [URL]. Does this means the graphics card is failing?

So my problem with my Macbook Pro's pixels is many of them look blurry and are multiple colors almost like a rainbow. They also only show up on white backgrounds, not black. Some of them are in clusters and others are spread out. One of the clusters is very annoying and looks like a big blurry dot on my screen. I am hoping to take it in to the apple store and see what they can do about it because it seems like it is getting worse. I am assuming these are all dead pixels but I am not certain.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo after waiting 4 weeks my High-res Glossy MBP FINALLY arrived...I was so happy. Got home switched it on and WOW it really is a beautiful machine...After using it for about 30 mins however i noticed a small dot to the lower right half of the screen... I looked closer and realized it was either a dead or stuck pixel( I dont exactly know the difference). I did a few test on it, and its ONLY visible when a light color is on the screen (White, Gray etc) However when the screen is DARK blue, Dark green or black it cant be seen at all...
It kind of looks like a TINY speck of water or liquid the size of 1 pixel stuck under the glass... I noticed that it does get lighter and darker when i adjust the brightness of the screen. Can anybody give me some tips? Anything i can do to fix it? Is it in fact a dead or a stuck pixel? I tried the JSscreen fix which is basically a online tool that opens up a flashing screen...Ive had it on for about 30 mins...but no luck
My mid-2014 15" Macbook Pro randomly "loses" its retina display at the top menu (becomes pixel-y), where the battery, sound, and wifi logos are (on the top right side of the screen). A restart fixes the issue, but I want to know if this is an issue that can be fixed?

i noticed a faint vertical line of pixels on the far left of my screen. they weren't black or colored, just faint/dim. i tried switching my desktop background, and the line was still there. i restarted my computer, and the line was still there. i shut down the computer, thinking that i would find the line there in the morning and have to take it to the apple store.
when i turned the computer on the next morning, there was no line. however, later that evening i noticed a reappearance of the line. i restarted the computer and left for a while. when i came back later, i woke the computer from sleep mode, and the line was gone.
there was no line on the computer this morning, although after a couple hours of use, i noticed that two lines had developed on the edge of where i had application windows open -- in this case, both yahoo messenger for mac. curiously, this didn't happen with other windows (finder, safari, etc).
I brought my iMac out of sleep today and noticed that there is a vertical line of broken flashing pixels going down the entire screen. The line is 1pixel thick and stretches from the bottom to the top of the screen.
Is there any way to fix this?
I have this problem 2 days now , When i busy just doing stuff on my mac in a while this is what happens a lot of strange weird looking things come in my screen Here is a example of what i mean -> Here and Here What are all those weird things on my screen? View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I have a 2009 iMac.Earlier this year, I upgraded to Lion. A little while after this upgrade I started running in to an issue that is now making my computer unusable. When working on graphic or labor intensive activities I am receiving Red Green and Blue pixels around my screen (see picture below) Shortly after this happens, my screen freezes and becomes unresponsive with these pixels still up OR it will completely glitch out, blinking and causing the whole screen to go crazy. Things I have tried so far, rebooting my system from scratch, replacing video card (not cheap )

I recently got the Core i5 iMac. Basically, while I'm working doing everyday things like browsing, coding, iMovie etc...my screen just freezes and there are squares of white noise pixels scattered everywhere. I can see the mouse cursor as I move but the image is so distorted that I dont know what Im clicking. Restarting the machine fixes the problem.

2 years ago I had bought this iMac 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and its on version 10.5.3. It came with tiger and when I installed leopard I started getting all these red pixels. I have no idea if its a software problem or hardware problem.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac Pro 1,1. Tonight the display starting looking like the screen shot attached. Then it wouldn't come up at all. Black screen, with a few bands of green pixels.
My first thought is that the Graphics Card is going bad. Odd thing is, though, that I captured this via screen capture from another Mac. Could it still be a bad GPU if it looks this way remotely? I'm not sure how these early Mac Pros work. I have Mac minis that, when the display is off (or headless), the GPU is not used to render the GUI via screen sharing. So, I tried disconnecting the display from the Mac Pro, and I get the same screen shot.
I can boot the Mac Pro into Safe Mode, but that is it.

This is a MacBook Pro pre-unibody The graphic card is an ATI Radeon X1600 I ran the TechTool Deluxe tool to test the video RAM (and everything else), but it didn't detect anything wrong I have never seen this when the laptop is connected to an external monitor This doesn't happen that often; say 1 times out of 10, usually after the laptop comes out from sleep. The issue stays for a few minutes and then goes away until next time, so I am unlikely to have the problem when I go to Apple Store for service.
So I have this collection of pixels near the bottom of my screen but they're only visible over a dark grey area, like when you're in the login screen (I have an early 2013 MBPr 15 btw)
It's probably a problem with the screen itself and not the GPU (or maybe the connection between them?) since if I take a screenshot it's not visible and I've connected it to an external monitor and it doesn't have it.

I've had this for a few weeks now and I've tried those youtube videos (I just to have some image retention after leaving something to run for a long time) which have decreased the amount of pixels. They all dissapeared for a few hours and now they're back.
I'm on my third LED Cinema Display (for various issues) but I've noticed all of them have DOZENS of very tiny specs of color that are only apparent on a black screen. Furthermore, they seem smaller than an actual pixel (have to be up very close) and they are only apparent at certain angles (and even sometime change color) as opposed to dead/stuck pixels. These always pass my initial dead pixel check over a full black or white screen but I find them once I get in real close.

It's not a "big" problem but is clearly noticeable in my transition from my 23" cinema display. This is particularly evident with small fonts or italics. A weeks ago, the display started go weird: - strange shapes started appearing on the desktop - a fluorescent green (like vertical strips of 5 or 6 pixels in a group), sometimes as a shadow of a previous open window, sometimes just random squares or lines. The blocks of green go if i run my mouse over them with the button pressed down. -a fluorescent green light sometimes shines around the programme tiles in the dock. -shadows behind open windows very accentuated and fluorescent green - sometimes text on web pages and documents look garbled - again this goes if i run my mouse over them, and either go or comes back in a different place. Some times i can go a few hours without experiences these problems, other times the issue is there on start up. I ran the quick hardware check, and no problems were reported, a week later i ran the extensive check, and again the system seemed fine.

Both have screen issues as follows: iMac A - dead & stuck pixels, feint grey horizontal bar running along bottom portion of screen, bottom left corner has noticeable backlight bleed. iMac B - dead & stuck pixels, yellow tinge in bottom portion of screen. So here are my questions. Which iMac should I keep and submit for repair? (does it matter and why or why not?) How does the actual repair get done? For example, if I submit iMac B for repair, could I end up with a grey bar or backlight prob like in iMac A?
Are there multiple layers to the display when they fix specific issues? For example, let's say the dead pixels are on one layer while the yellow tinge is on a different layer, or are both issues on the same layer? I ask because if there are two or more separate layers, there is more of a chance to mess up so I may want to submit the iMac that has the least amount of issues.
Lastly and most importantly, has anyone submitted their iMac for screen repair for these issues and got it back 100% repaired? (no dead/stuck pixels, yellowing, grey bar, backlght bleed) These are #4 and #5 in terms of the number of replacements I've gotten now and I'm sick of it so I may opt to go for repair on either of these existing machines instead of going for replacement #6. But do you think a 6th replacement would be better than going for repair on either of these? Or not?
When do dead pixels show themselves? If I have a new PowerBook and it has no dead pixels, is there a possibility it will in the future?
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I took my new Imac 24 out of the box last week, instantly i noticed about 3 or 4 dead pixels, they aren't too bad but it's only of those things you don't expect with a new computer and it can be quite distracting once you know they are there.... if i were to contact the place of purchase in regards to this do you feel i would be over-reacting to have it replaced or repaired or should i just suck it up?

The Staff in my local store are so, so helpful and are always there to help, but this will be my 4th pixel related return. It's a mighty fine machine but I'm beginning to feel like "that guy" who always takes his macs back!

Definitely a bummer as I had to go through 2 MBPs when buying this computer just to get one without any dead pixels. I don't know why or when these pixels died. I have AppleCare and I am wondering if Apple will do anything about this. Is there a threshold for repairs (e.g., only 10+ pixels is repairable)? Has anyone ever got a repair/replacement for dead pixels? Is there anything I can myself to fix this problem?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI took the plunge and bought a new 15" mbp. Came home and booted it up to find two maybe three dead pixels in the middle of the screen. One is red and two are gray. I tried using a site to get dead pixels out but didn't work. I scheduled an appointment with the genius tomorrow to see if he can help me out.

This is a screenshot straight from Photobooth, showing the image from my iSight when the black cleaning cloth is held up to it. No, those marks are not dirt (on the outside anyway). Other that this, my iMac is fine with the exception of a single dead pixel (I thought this was a thing of the past, but oh well) and I'm not 100% about whether or not I have the yellow screen issue, so I'll ignore it for now.

It drives me absolutely CRAZY...probably because I paid $900 for this display. I can't remember ever having a problem pixel on another display...all of them cheaper. So I'm curious about the iMac owners. Is a dead/stuck pixel here and there an expected thing for iMac owners?
