I just bought a new unibody Macbook (YAY), but when i play full screen movies, at the bottom of the screen you can see the light shooting up. Is that worthy of a replacement? Or is that normal on a LED screen? I just purchased it yesterday, so I can just go exchange it if its neccessary.
View 2 RepliesI've got an 27" i7 which has got a significan amount of light bleedthrough from the LED backlight in the upper right side of the screen, about 5 inches from the far right. I don't have access to the display currently, but will take a photo when I get home.
It's not an annoyance when the screen is displaying bright colours, but when the screen is supposed to be black, the amount of bleed is quite visible (this is bleed down into the screen, not through the joins/seams of the unit).

Does anyone else have these issues? I realise that it is impossible to get it perfect, but this could turn into an annoyance for me, and just want to know if anyone else has a similar issue.

I've had my new 13" MBP for about a month now and I am noticing what looks like backlight bleeding spots at the bottom of my screen. It is most noticeable on the bottom left and appear blue-ish on a black screen at maximum brightness. It is getting irritating when I am watching movies at night. I have the 9CBD screen. Others have said they have no problems with this screen model. So is this normal or is it a defect? If it is a defect, what can I do to fix this? My 14 day grace period is over, so I'm assuming an easy exchange at the Apple Store is out of the question?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI did a search and could only find information about the last rendition of mbps, and I see they had problems with bleeding along the bottom part of the screen. I just got my umbp a week ago, but I've been so busy finding a place to live for grad school that I haven't had the chance to use it. I looked at it in the dark yesterday, and I'm super anal. I saw a small amount of backlight bleeding on the bottom left corner of the screen, perhaps half an inch on the left side of the screen, just in one area (not along the entire left side).I wish I could take a picture, but my digital camera is nowhere to be found. Is a small amount of backlight bleeding acceptable, or should I exchange for a new umbp?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got a new 1.6 MBA but it is going back tomorrow. It has screen bleeding showing like mountains on the bottom and top of the screen. In addition, it is HOT (CPU 63-83 C). Way hotter than what I tested at the store (CPU 40-60 C). In addition, it has a tiny flicked (ripped) paint at the back which I am somehow ok with. I just wanted to share this with you and know if any of you facing similar issues? I have never ever seen screen bleeding in MBAs before since the MBA has the "best" screen ever. I hope that I'll get a better replacement.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have an eyelash-sized dark streak on the center, bottom (dock area) of my Powerbook G4 15". At first, I thought it was dirt, or another external blemish, but if I move the cursor over it, it obstructs the view of the blemish (instead of appearing beneath it.) Also, I have a small, almost white, faded dot which appears to grow and expand larger if the Powerbook is running for longer than 4-6 hours.What is frustrating is that neither show up under screen captures. Is my monitor full of external stains and blemishes which I cannot remove, or is there something actually wrong with my display?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI cracked my laptop screen and along some of the crack lines there is a blue, magic marker looking bleeding going on. It has been getting progressively worse. The menu bar on top is fully covered in blue. The blue coloring migrates. My question is, will this destroy the inners of the computer in any way? I am trying to wait for the updated MacBook Pros, but don't want to wait if I am risking frying all my info. I can still use the computer, I just have to move screens around so I can read around the blue blood.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have not seen any posts comparing these two symptoms together, but I am wonding if both exist on the same screens, or if they are infact seperate issues. I returned a 27" iMac i7 because it had both slight yellowing and terrible backlight bleeding. I have seen multiple machines first hand (3 Core 2 Duos week 41s) at different stores (Apple and Best Buy) that had no yellowing and no backlight bleeding. I won't get into how to check for yellowing, you can read about that issue here: [URL]
But to check for backlight bleeding is both easy and impossible not to see if you have it. To check for backlight bleeding, a quick way is to bring up a site like http://www.blackle.com/ or any other black background, and check for an inconsistent white glow on the edges of your screen. I had serious backlight bleeding in the lower corners of my screen, which happens to be where the yellowing was happening. I don't know if they are related, but hopefully we can determine if there is any correlation here.
I did order a second machine, because I know Apple knows how to make a 27" iMac with a perfect screen (as advertised), since I have seen 3 of them in the wild. Hopefully they will be back to the quality that they had is their early production units very soon.
I have a problem with my screen - when there is something black on, I can see a faint mark of a lighter colour. I have tried to take a picture, please excuse the poor quality. There is nothing visible when the screen is off, even under close examination. Is it less visible when lighter things are on the screen, and invisible when the screen is white.
No drops or liquid spills. Will this go away on it's own? Any fixes?
Is it just me or the macbook air has a problem with backlight? it's very very bright compare to my mbp 13.3 but it seems like the left part of the screen receive a lot more light than the bottom right of the screen. I notice that on the mbp pro but its worse on the mba. I have a rev2 1.86 with a 9400. In this review (in spanish) they check the brightness levels on the screen, and there is a difference between center and bottom right corner (340cd/m2 vs 215cd/m2)

Alu 24" 2.4ghz when they first came out with aluminum, got it at the store. since august 07 My imac had a small yellow tint, i noticed, when i got it and it was not worth anyhting screaming about, i also noticed it had bleeding issues ath the bottom and sides. I wanted to return it or trade but i was convinced out of it.
Now i noticed that from left to right their is a prominent yellow tint streaking it's way across and fading around the half way point.It is irritating and sad to see this display on this mac was ok, at first but it is geting slightly worse.I have apple care, can i trade this/replace it at an applestore, or would they need to fix it?

When shutting down, we get a familiar light blue screen before the computer turns off. I'm getting this flashing at me while operating my MBP. It seems to happen twice, every so often. The screen will turn blue and become empty simultaneously for about a half second - then the screen I'm expecting to see comes back for about half a second - and then the light blue screen comes back again for about a half a second, and then everything goes back to normal.What the heck is this?
I must say, I'm having a little bit of a difficult time with my switch to Apple from Microsoft last November. I've already had to replace the logic board, it appears as if my network card is no longer working (I can only connect via WiFi) - and now I'm having this odd light-blue screen flashing... I just bought a Black, 2007 MacBook for $500 from eBay. In my excitement, I had forgotten to ask the seller of the cosmetic condition, who had negelected to mention it, and now that I have it, I notice some dark spots behind the screen.
I say behind because they appear behind the pixels; if you roll rext over it it is clear that they are not dead pixels, and the spots are under them.
The spots look sort of like somebody painted the back of the screen in Photoshop's dissolve mode - little light grey spots around a darker grey center with dusty dots surrounding it.
If you look at it at the right angle, you can also see white spots (The grey spots will also turn white at this angle)
My question is, can it be fixed, and about how much will it cost?
Upon start up I hear optical drive checked, then get a start up chime but the screen does not light up. I have shut down by holding down power button for 10 seconds also pulled battery and A/C power.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI woke up this morning and my Macbook Pro won't turn on. The sleep mode light is just constantly on but there is nothing on the screen. I've tried shutting down and booting back up. Removing the battery and putting it back on and rebooting. I've tried rebooting without the battery and plugged into the power adapter. I've reset the PRAM. I've took the battery out and held down the power button for 5 seconds. Nothing seems to work.
Also, the last week the battery said "replace soon" and then the other day it said "replace now". I've checked the battery level and it seems to be fine. And wouldn't it just start up from the power cord? I would love for it to just be a battery issue. But it not starting up with the power cord and the sleep mode light being constantly on makes me thing otherwise.
All the screens I have seen have at least a stripe of bleeding on top and some screens have more bleeding on the bottom in addition to that!I just opened my machine today with week5 production and it has a very thin (thinner than others) stripe of bleeding on top and kind of two blobs on the bottom corners.As for the lines (for the curious ones) they are there but this is the best screen I have ever seen since it is way harder to notice them compared to the rest. It is a model 9C90.
Would I return it you might ask, well, I am kind of sick of waiting more for a MBA since this is my second machine since the release of revB so I am kind of 50-50 now on keeping it.BTW, I bought this from Amazon so I was wondering if any of your returned a MBA due to the lines/bleeding issue and got a full refund from them.
I've got a nasty issue with my 13-mo. old MacBook.
I'm pretty sure it's a dead logic board and possibly a dead hard drive, which I really, really, really hope not as I don't have backups of everything on the drive. I just upgraded to Leopard this past week and did a clean install so not all of my stuff is setup yet.
Power adapter and battery are inserted. All 3rd party peripherals and RAM have been removed.
MacBook does not chime at boot. The screen flickers, but stays black. If I hold down the power button then try to let it boot the light on the front right flashes constantly (like when it's sleeping but a faster pace), like a turn signal on a car. I can hear the cd-rom drive whining but everything else is dead silent.
I've done everything here with the exception of calling Apple.[URL]
I've also tried FW Target Disk Mode, but the MacBook drive does not show up.
I've done everything I can think of and I'm out of ideas at this point.
Additionally, there's a cd-rom (Tiger Restore CD) stuck in the drive. Holding down the mouse button during restart does not eject this CD. Where is the force eject button (I see no pinhole)?
I have business documents, emails, etc. that I HAVE TO get off this hard drive. How can I do it? I don't have a 2.5" drive enclosure but if that will solve the situation I will pick one up asap.
I was using my MacBook this evening and navigated to a webpage that wouldn't load (perhaps due to excessive load) when my screen turned off and refused to turn back on. The white "sleep" light remained constant. I shut the screen and the light started to blink after the optical drive made it's noise and then I opened the screen again. The display turned on for a few seconds turning back off and the light on the front reverted to it's constant state.
I repeated pressing keys, the mouse and closing and opening the screen a few times before holding the power button down and forcing it to shut down. It's working fine now. I am wondering what caused this sudden behaviour though and how to best stop it from happening again, if I was working on something that needed to be saved, I'd be buggered. Perhaps it's an issue Apple needs to service, but how do I reproduce the effect then?

I was thinking it could possibly be related to the Last.fm app, but why would it turn my screen off and then cause it to continue to not respond/turn off? Should I be looking in the Console for a log before shutting down tonight, would that reveal something?
Does the new MBA still have the ambient light sensor that adjust the screen brightness to environment?(like the older MBA and the current MBP)
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy 2010 13" Pro seems to have some blue/magenta light leaking from the bottom of the screen. This is only visible with the brightness turned up and against a black background (i.e. when watching a letterbox movie). It's quite different from the "typical" white light leak that I've witnessed on other lcds. Would this be "normal"?
Also - and this may seem like nit-picking - but my caps lock key feels a bit flimsier than the rest of the keys. Again - is this "normal"?
Can a few folks comment on how long it takes for your screen to light up and to hear the optical drive make noise from the time you push the "On" button? I've seen a few videos and some comments here as well that it is nearly instantaneous and then the MBP goes into its boot cycle. I have an X25 SSD which boots me into my desktop in about 19 seconds from the button push BUT there is about a 5-6 second delay from the time I push the "On" button to any activity. Any ideas how to fix this (if it is, indeed, a problem)? Again, some other folks report instant activity.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis morning, I synced my iPod with my MacBook and upon completion and permission to disconnect the device, I pulled out the USB cord. At that point the computer instantly turned itself off, and when I hit the power button, I could hear the system trying to start up, but the screen remained black and the sleep light glowed continuously. I unplugged the charger, took out the battery and put it back in, and tried all the troubleshooting tips under the Apple Support guide with no success. I also discovered that when I closed the laptop while it was "on," it would seem to boot up a little more before returning to the black screen. I left it alone for a few hours, and when I tried again to turn it on, it booted up normally and as I was searching for updates, it shut down again as it had earlier.
Does anyone have anything for me to try? I don't want to have to take it into a shop because I can just barely afford to, but I need this computer! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :-)
