I thought itunes automatically converts the wma files on my macbook to aac or a format that it can play. I have a lot of music on my macbook but these are all wma files so can't add them to itunes library.

Today I tried inserting a CD to import. iTunes accessed the database to retrieve the relevant song information but, once it did, I was no longer given the option to play or import the CD. During the access period, iTunes would briefly change to the artist/album/track, etc. information page for the CD but, once the access was finished, I could not access the CD, which didn't even show up on the side bar as it used to.

I've got a folder containing 11 mp3 audio tracks that for some reason won't import into iTunes. I've tried the following:
- Double-Clicking each mp3 file
- Dragging the mp3 file into the iTunes window and the iTunes Dock icon
- Choosing 'Add to Library' from the file menu

I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8. My friend gave me a USB with some songs on it. These songs work fine on his Windows OS. This is a step-by-step of what I did to try open the .mp3 files.
-I double click the .mp3 files.
-iTunes opens but songs are not imported.
-I drag and drop files into library but nothing happens. No error message.
-I plug in iPod, drag files straight to iPod to bypass iTunes library.
-ERROR "cannot be played on this iPod".
-I'm beginning to suspect viruses or corrupt files.
-I open up .mp3 files in Quicktime. They play fine.
-I try VLC player, RealPlayer and Finder's Quick Look. They all play fine.
Apparently iTunes is the only player (that I have) that will not open these .mp3 files. It's not that I'm desperate to listen to these tunes, but I'm desperate to see if anything is wrong with my iTunes or computer.
In short, I can't import any new files into itunes except for from the itunes store. When I downloaded an mp3 online, and tried to drag and drop it to itunes in order to import, it says "Attempting to copy to the disc Macintosh HD failed: You do not have enough access priveleges for this operation. I am the only admin on the computer, i have gone through music>itunes>Itunes music and made read/write for me on all three under "get info" when trying to import a CD it says "the song couldn't be converted, you don't have write access to your itunes media folder or a folder within it" I spotlighted "itunes media" and found nothing. Next I repaired disk permissions from disk utility, still the same problems.

I also attempted the 'Add To Library' method, but nothing would happen. I'm looking to import these ebooks to my iPad, and having messed around with third party apps in the past, would like to do it through iTunes.

I have just bought my first Mac and finding iTunes limiting. I am running a Windows XP desktop, laptop and OSX 10.5 MacPro laptop. I then have a Western Digital World Book 500GB NAS with a share holding all my music so that it is centralized. I have setup iTunes so that it's default library is the WD NAS Share "Music" and deselected the option to copy to local library. The Mac is my wife's computer so I will not be adding new music through its iTunes, but from my XP Desktop to the drive mapping "MUSIC" (simple cut and paste). My frustration is that I can manually import (using iTunes) the contents from "MUSIC".
But any new songs I add to the share "MUSIC" from outside of iTunes will not be recognized/added in the iTunes library without doing another manual import of the new file/folder. I have seen a post for sync'ing two iTunes libraries, which may or may not be possible to sync'd Mac iTunes with Windows iTunes through shares, but I really prefer not to go this route and currently using iTunes only on the Mac. Is there a script or plug-in for Leopard or iTunes that will monitor for changes on the ntwork share then add the new songs to iTunes's libary automatically? Maybe I am thinking to far outside of the box? By the way I do work in the IT field so I am willing to do some more "duct-taping" to make this work
I have ripped a Audio-DVD with 5.1/24bit/48kHz to FLAC some time ago. Now I want to import them into iTunes. So first I tried Max and XLD and converted them to Apple Lossless format. But iTunes just ignores them when I drag them over the library.
Then I thought, maybe the converters can't handle the extra channels. So I imported the files into Cubase and converted them to AIFF. Then the same procedure as before. This time, iTunes accepted 10 out of 14 tracks. Why the remaining tracks weren't imported stays a secret to me.
Now, since AIFF files aren't compressed, I tried to convert them to Apple Lossless from within iTunes. But this time it hits me with an unknown error -50.

I bought a Mac so I could use the free, but good video editing software in iMovie. When I try to import AVI files from my digital camera on to it, it crashes and shuts down before they import... I need help. Also, even if I try to just play a file in finder, quicktime will crash. It is weird, because the files worked perfectly on my old PC. Help please!!!

Would you like to locate it? A search doesn't find it.
This applys to every track on itunes but music files in the music folder in Finder still play.

None of my mp4 files play on iTunes or QuickTime, both of which are up to date. I have OS X 10.7.5. The mp4 files have all been added to iTunes movies. But when I click 'play', the window is all black / blank although the title of the video is shown in the header, and even the timer . Same with QuickTime.

I have successfully transferred all my music from windows to my new iMac, but I am unable to drag and drop them into iTunes. I was told before purchasing that this would be no problem. I can play all the tracks individually but it uses Quicktime to play them. Am I missing something? How can I get them across to iTunes?

I want them to play or to open, but they dont work on itunes, i downloaded manny files (songs) from different users on solarseek, so its not a problem of corrupted files.
iTunes freezing up a lot, can't add files/play media.Try to update to latest version, then App Store opens very slowly and just stays at blank gray screen. Both require force quit. I have read instructions by Linc in other discussions, and I have already tried the following:
-Logged in as Guest: Seems to work great.
-Logged in my profile in Safe Boot: Still have issues.
BTW, if I update iTunes under the "GUEST" login, will that update also show under my own profile?

I had deleted my files from iTunes media folder, but as luckily I had the same files located in other place I just copied them to the iTunes Media but iTunes rejects to play them (in my iTunes Library). I'm only able to play them if I go through the procedure as followings: Play - "iTunes unable to open this file because the original file not found. Do you want to find it?" (or smith like that) - Find - Open and then it plays, but I have to perform these actions with every file separately and I have quite a lot of them. Oh, and after that first popping-up window the next one appears "Would you like iTunes to find other missing files from the same location as [the file's name]?" But when I click on "Find" it says "iTunes were unable to find other missing files". Why? How do I accomplish the same task but with all my albums at once without necessity to add them one by one? Does there some way exists to tie the tracks from my albums with original files without importing them to my iTunes library?

I download an mp3 file. One of them is for a class I'm taking that has audio files as part of the course. If I double click in Finder on the file, it begins playing in iTunes and when done, iTunes goes on to play something else. While online is a live class, I did this and iTunes picked up a recording of a discussion I had recorded and played it aloud with my live mic to the entire class.
There are a number of things I hate about iTunes, this is but one. In general I use it without trouble. However, if I construct a playlist, when that list is exhausted it in some fashion known only to iitself and the developers chooses somewhere else to continue. It tends to think of itself as a super large iPod and keeps playing until I manually stop it. Since I have many days of audio in the library, this is not particularly sensible. I recently purchased an MP3 album from Amazon, which downloaded fine. Unlike previous times, however, the Amazon Downloader app didn't load the music into my iTunes library. I tried to manually add the album to my iTunes Library, with no luck. I was able to load the album into my iPhone Music app by dragging and dropping on my iPhone device in iTunes (after turning off iTunes Match).. If I double-click on the songs on my hard drive, they will play in iTunes, but do not import.

On my iMovie, i can't get asf, avi, or mov video files to work. It would only show up as a white screen and take 15 minutes to load to imovie. But when i convert my asf to mov with a converteri downloaded, it took like 1 hour for a 30 second video, it worked and only took like 1 minute to load on imovie??? I accidentally deleted all of the imovie projects and events from the imovie application on my laptop. When I try to re-import the imovie files into imovie, it doesn't recognize the files. I have tried to convert them with iSkySoft Video Converter. That converter program does not recognize the files either. I also tried burning the files onto a disc and then pulling them off the disc with the Handbrake program. This doesn't work either. I also tried importing the files into iMovie HD, which I have on my desktop, but to no avail. Are these files alll useless now? I'm at my wits end because I have spent literally months compiling footage for a documentary.
