ITunes :: How To Delete Music Off A Device Using MacBook?
Apr 1, 2012
How can I remove music from my iPod and iPhone using a MacBook and iTunes. When I highlight the songs on the device listed on iTunes on my MacBook and then delete them, they don't go away.
My new Jeep came with a stereo with a built in hard drive and USB port. Unfortunately music cannot be played directly from the USB port and music be copied directly to the hard drive.
As such I am wondering if it's possible to copy of selection of music from iTunes to an attached USB device/drive on a Mac. I'm thinking that I am going to have to go through Finder and copy it that way but I'm not sure.
I recently updated iTunes to v10.6 from 10.0. Since then, any album art that I have manually added in the past no longer shows up on my iPhone or iPod Classic. However, album art that was retrieved via iTunes (purchases, etc) does appear. I first noticed this on my iPhone, which was running iOS 5.0.1 at the time. I updated to iOS 5.1 afterwards, thinking that it might solve the problem but nothing changed.
Some things I should mention; my entire library is ALAC (lossless), and I do not use the sync feature with music. I manually drag albums over that I want and use the "convert to AAC feature", and have always done so. The main reason I upgraded to iTunes 10.6 was to take advantage of converting to AAC 256kbps instead of the previously fixed bit rate of 128kbps. Anyway, I dragged over a lossless album without the option of converting to AAC, but it still didn't transfer the artwork. In case anyone is wondering, the method I used to download my art was by finding the cover using Google Images, hilighting every track in the album, and pasting it in. Again, I never had this problem until upgrading iTunes to v10.6.
I don't watch music videos, at all. I grew out of that when MTV grew out of its value. I want to delete all the music videos that I've ever been forced to accept when I buy music from iTunes. They are many, and I'd prefer to just sort by type and neatly find all the videos.....but I can't.
Storage is cheap, but I just can't let gigs of it be used to store things I don't care about.
I have 8 gigs of audio on my iphone. I have the could and don't need this music on my phone.I have 4 gigs in music and 4 gigs in purchased. I went to Itunes and highlighted songs, hit delete, nothing happend.
I transferred a whole heap of music onto iTunes on my Mac from my old PC, and then made a playlist and synced with my iPhone. As I listened, I deleted almost half these songs (there were 170 songs at first) directly from my iPhone by swiping across and pressing delete. My problem now is, I now have more music I want to add to my phone from iTunes, but I don't want the 85 odd songs that I deleted to be synced back onto the phone.
Is there any way I can make the two devices match up so that the songs on my Mac and not on my iPhone will delete from iTunes? I could always go through manually, but that will be tedious and not something I really want to do.
I have been downloading a lot of my old CD's and have found I have a lot of duplicate songs from a variety of my album sets...how can I delete them so I only have one of each one?
I bought itunes match and I want to delete music from the Purchased tab in the Itunes store that is there in the icloud. I backed up the music I want. I turned on itunes match and downloaded the music and then deleted it all and selected the option to delete from icloud. After running itunes match again it says there is no music in icloud so I thought all the songs were gone from icloud. I go back into the Purchased tab in the itunes store and all the music I ever bought is still there. Is there a way I can get rid of all the music in the Purchased tab? I thought by getting itunes match and deleting from the icloud it would get rid of the music from the Purchased tab. Please advise who to get rid of the music from the Purchased tab in the itunes store.
I am doing this on my macbook with Lion installed and latest version of itunes. I have deleted and recreated the library at least 3 times as well trying to vanquish that music from the Purchased tab.
So I have imported all my music from my HD to itunes without unchecking the import to media folder. I would like to delete it from my media on the imac whilst still retaining it on itunes. Advise so far given is delete completely from itunes therefore the media folder being deleted and then import again without importing to media folder. Is there a way to delete the contents of the music folder?
I had over 250GB of music on a external hard drive. I went to begin adding the music to my new MacBook Air and when I started getting the album covers added I found that over half of my music was gone off my external drive. How can iTunes delete music off of my external drive? Am I able to recover this music?
I have music files in both media folder and on another drive, not copied to media folder. I know I can highlight and delete individual and multiple files in iTunes. Time consuming. What i'd really like to do is tell iTunes I want it to only see the files in my media folder.I want undo what I did when I told it to bring these other files into the library.
When I used to delete a song from my iTunes library it would ask me if I wanted to also remove it completely from my computer. Now it no longer does and I cannot find a option to get that back. Can someone tell me where I can get iTunes to do this again?
If I install Microsoft office on my mac air 2gb 64mb, will it slow my system down? I also have a macbook pro that i dont take out the house with Microsoft office already installed. Am I best to install Pages on the mac air or will it cause compatibility issues when working on files between the two devices?

i have an ipad, iphone, 13" macbook pro and mac mini all which run fine. i bought new family macbook pro today but cant get my phone 4s to sync its data ie pics, music, contacts etc?
...now I don't have the same functionality with iTunes. Basically, I can't use iTunes at all anymore as the interface for my music and videos. Once the external drive is mounted, I can navigate through it and play individual songs, but I can't use iTunes to do that. All my previous Playlists show up down the left side of iTunes, but there isn't any music in them.
I downloaded 2 songs yesterday, made a Playlist out of them, and because the path in the Advanced tab of the iTunes Preferences is correct, it automatically added the songs to the external hard drive. I synced my iPod and it was completely erased except for the 2 new songs. Is there a way to use iTunes to navigate my music like I used to when I stored the information on the internal hard drive but keep the information on the external drive? I have a Mac running Snow Leopard and the latest version of iTunes.
At the moment most of my music is either stored on my Macbook or on an external hard drive. Is it possible to transfer all my music and videos to an external hard drive and then sync it with Itune so that every time I plug it in I can access them?
I was looking to access the file sharing functionality of one of my apps (AV Player HD) in iTunes 12 and wasn't able to find out where or how to do this in the new version.
After a bit of searching on the internet I gathered I needed to select my device (iPad in this case) from the devices drop down, then on the left hand sidebar under the menu heading 'On My Device' I should see "Apps" listed there along with Music and Movies etc. I have:
Music MoviesTv Shows Books Audio Tones
and then some music playlists..That's it. So my questions are:
1. where is 'Apps'?
2. how am I supposed to access file sharing on AV Player HD if I can't see this menu item?

I have transferred my itunes music on to my external HD. The music is there and that is fine. I then deleted the old itunes folder from my actual HD. I have now wanted to access the music on the external HD, and have attempted to select the new music file location on the external HD via the itunes/preferences/advanced window, selected the new file path and it will just not show in itunes!
I have some old music that I bought under an old iTunes account and it asks me for my password to play the music. That account is no longer active, how do I list the music under my new account so I can play it?
I am currently trying to delete a load of stuff off an external hard drive. I have a folder full of music (laid out like an iTunes Music folder, all the artist folders) on the external, and I only want to delete the music that I already have on my computer. Is there a way to select just those folders that I already have, or will I have to do the tedious job of going through each folder? It's like, 50GB worth of music here.
