Dec 11, 2014I am trying to connect a Macbook Pro to my printer wirelessly. I can connect it, but it uses my other Macbook Pro as a server (shared). I cannot connect this printer to the previously mentioned Macbook directly, as I get the message; "an error occurred while trying to add the selected device. Unable to communicate with the printer at this time."
On the printer selection menu, it says the printers are "bonjour printers". The shared printer via my other Macbook shows as shared, and the (same) printer directly off my network does not show shared, so I think it is a sharing problem.All the printer sharing is enabled, so I don't know why it shows that it is not shared.
The printer is a Canon MP530 which works fine. Everything connected fine before I used this printer. I am running Yosemite OS X 10.101 on both Macs, but I don't think that matters because I had the same problem before I upgraded. I have reset the printing system, repaired permissions, everything I can think of, and I still can't directly connect this printer over wi-fi.The driver even upgraded with the new OS X, so it's not the driver.
I can print, but only using my other Mac as a "server", and it has to be on. I shouldn't have to do that.The main question seems to be how do I set sharing permissions when they are already set to share?These are my choices on the "add printer" menu:
-PS-736C74-U1 (Bonjour) (does not work)
-PS-736C74-U1 @ user's MacBook Pro (Bonjour shared) (works!)

OS X Yosemite :: Can't Screen Share Using Messages
Dec 7, 2014I tried using Messages today to share my friend's screen but kept getting this error message:
Please make sure that Screen Sharing (in the Sharing section of System Preferences) is enabled on the computer to which you are attempting to connect. Also make sure your network connection is working properly.
At first we tried using our iCloud accounts but screen sharing just wouldn't initiate. I tried doing a video conference just to test the connection and video worked without a problem. Then we tried using our Gmail accounts and still couldn't get a screen sharing session to initiate.
I had my friend adjust her Screen Sharing preferences in System Preferences (we tried half a dozen combinations) but I am fairly certain that one can use screen sharing in Messages with iCloud accounts without turning on Screen Sharing in System Preferences. Either way, turning on Screen Sharing in System Preferences did not work.
OS X Yosemite :: Image Capture - Scanner Not Showing As Device
Dec 4, 2014New iMac and Yosemite -I can't get my Canon scanner to behave nicely. It's an 8800F. I have installed the latest Canon drivers (today) and MP-Navigator and I can at least scan OK. But I would like to be able to scan directly within applications (as I was able to on my old OSX 10.6 system), ie, by selecting the scanner as a device within the application.
But the scanner does not show as a device in applications, or within Image Capture.

Jan 13, 2010Anyways, I just got this Powermac and just bought 1TB internal harddrive in second harddrive bay and still using the 150GB start up disk. But I have crap load of music and its transferring into the start up disk! So its full already. How can I share or whatever to use the music in 1TB harddrive? I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say.

OS X Yosemite :: Unable To Share Via Email From Preview
Dec 8, 2014I use preview all the time to email pdf documents. Since the update to Yosemite when I click the share icon then click mail all I get is the "clunk" noise I associated with error messages, but nothing else, no dialogue window and no error message. I can't find anything in the Preview preferences about sharing. Anywhere else I should be looking?

Jan 4, 2011This proves much harder than I had anticipated. I spent the entire weekend and monday trying to get it to work on my own but now I have to surrender. I have about 20GB of music on my windows 7 box, which I would like to have shared to my new Mac Mini without having them being copied. I turned on File Sharing on my Windows Machine, and use SMB on the Mac to get to the mp3 files, then I can drag the files into Itunes on Mac.
This works okay but I don't know what the limitation is, Itunes freezes when either the library gets too big, or when a single mp3 file exceeds a certain size; I am suspecting it is the stability of the samba protocol. I also tried the Home Sharing feature within Itunes between the PC and Mac, but then I can't seem to be able to sync to Iphone/Ipod from the mac. It has been an extremely frustrating first time experience with a Mac. Please give me some tips on how I can share my music between a PC and a Mac.
ITunes :: Album Art Won't Transfer When Dragging Music To Device
Mar 21, 2012I recently updated iTunes to v10.6 from 10.0. Since then, any album art that I have manually added in the past no longer shows up on my iPhone or iPod Classic. However, album art that was retrieved via iTunes (purchases, etc) does appear. I first noticed this on my iPhone, which was running iOS 5.0.1 at the time. I updated to iOS 5.1 afterwards, thinking that it might solve the problem but nothing changed.
Some things I should mention; my entire library is ALAC (lossless), and I do not use the sync feature with music. I manually drag albums over that I want and use the "convert to AAC feature", and have always done so. The main reason I upgraded to iTunes 10.6 was to take advantage of converting to AAC 256kbps instead of the previously fixed bit rate of 128kbps. Anyway, I dragged over a lossless album without the option of converting to AAC, but it still didn't transfer the artwork.
In case anyone is wondering, the method I used to download my art was by finding the cover using Google Images, hilighting every track in the album, and pasting it in. Again, I never had this problem until upgrading iTunes to v10.6.
OS X Yosemite :: Screen Sharing Tries To Open AFP Share When Connecting In Vnc
Dec 2, 2014Since the Yosemite upgrade, Screen Sharing App seems to try opening an afp share first when connecting via a vnc:// shortcut... It takes a while before being connected in VNC (2-3 minutes) !
Remote has been configured via a command line found in an other discussion in this board (Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?. Connecting via the RealVNC App is super fast (like 5 sec).configuration was exactly the same in Mavericks and it worked well and fast !

I've tried one method on here HT1203 but it makes a second copy and fills up my hard drive. I do not want to share the whole media library just the music. There must be an easy way to use two iPhones with separate user ids on one Mac so we don't mix up our apps. I would have though that the great Apple would have just sorted this out when you plug in a different device.

Whilst in the store setting up our new mac the people in the shop told us that we could only have 1 icloud account per user, and therefore my wife and i should set up separte user accounts. Great. However, we both want to be able to access all of our photos and our music library. I have been into the sharing folders, but i must be doing somthing wrong, because as my wife turns on iphoto in her user account, she cannot access any of our photos.

My account is the primary user account, and my iTunes library is stored in this account. My wife would like to put music on her iPhone so she can run, but I can't seem to access the music library thru her account. I know the files are all on the hard drive regardless, so I just need to know how I can make iTunes on my wife's account access the library that's there. I've tried the steps I could find on Apple's website, but I can't seem to make it work. Dec 2, 2014I try to upload music from commercially produced cds but my iMac (intel) running Yosemite has stopped working.
It uploaded several discs then had trouble uploading one. When I put the next cd in to upload it made a few strange whirling sounds then ejected the disc. It didn't get mounted the the desktop either.
I tried it first thing in the morning when the machine was freshly started and not hot but nothings working.
