OS X :: Easiest Way To Delete Music Folders On External HD
May 6, 2009
I am currently trying to delete a load of stuff off an external hard drive. I have a folder full of music (laid out like an iTunes Music folder, all the artist folders) on the external, and I only want to delete the music that I already have on my computer. Is there a way to select just those folders that I already have, or will I have to do the tedious job of going through each folder? It's like, 50GB worth of music here.
I've been having trouble burning cds on my mac air (10.7.3) with the latest version of iTunes. After I import the cd from the superdrive and insert a blank cd, iTunes closes and I'm taken to the desktop which has the "untitled disc" on it. I have no idea what to do at this point. One tutorial says to select "burn disc" but then I end up with an empty disc. I don't know what to try next. I have burned cds in the past and it made sense. Something has changed. I'm lost.
i successfully rerouted iTunes so that the program would find my music library on external hard drive. Two days ago, my Apple MacBook computer was updated to the Lion operating system. iTunes was also updated. Now I have to go back into iTunes and give the program new instruction to go find the music files on external hard drive. My folder on external hard drive, called "iTunes Music," contains various music files and also, I notice, a folder called "iTunes." Within that "iTunes" folder, the following folders or files are located: [code] I do not understand any of this. I do not understand WHICH FILE OR FOLDER I should instruct iTunes to go to in order to find the desired music files.Once the desired files are found, they should appear in the iTunes window on screen. This is not happening.
I have tried holding down the Option key while starting iTunes, which yields a window that asks for me to CHOOSE LIBRARY. I choose the iTunes library file ( iTunes Library.itl) that is located on external hard drive. However, NOTHING HAPPENS. iTunes does not do anything. When the program opens, nothing is visible in the iTunes window, where normally songs are listed. No playlists on the lefthand side. NOTHING.
I have a macbook and I am connecting an external hard drive via USB 2.0.
When I want to delete a folder it gives me "error 1407". There is nothing in the folder and it is not protected in any way. It was a folder created by me only a month or so ago. ALL of the folders on my external hard drive are like this. No files are effected with this issue.
I have a couple of FW drives hooked up to my iMac and I just discovered I can't trash anything from them. Actually, ever since upgrading to Lion I've been having all sorts of permission issues, but that's another discussion. In this case I've gone to the info windows for these drives and I have only read premission and I can't seem to change it. I've done all the usual things to do so but it remains stuck on "read only." I'm regularly repairing permissions so I don't see that working, tho I haven't tried trashing anything from these drives in a while so I don't know how long it's been this way.
I had over 250GB of music on a external hard drive. I went to begin adding the music to my new MacBook Air and when I started getting the album covers added I found that over half of my music was gone off my external drive. How can iTunes delete music off of my external drive? Am I able to recover this music?
I imported a large store of outlook email messages into iCloud mail - including many folders and subfolders some time ago. I would now like to delete the lot of them. Deleting a single message or folder works fine. However, when I try to delete a folder with subfolders, even though I reply to the 'are you sure' message by clicking "yes," the folder and subfolders initially disappear yet, immediately upon refresh, all folders and subfolders reappear and I find that the instruction has been completely ignored.
I bought a Seagate Free Agent Go Flex External drive. I transferred all my files from my previous external HD. When I went to access my folders on my external HD, the folders are all locked, with Sharing and Permission section in the Information "Everyone: Read" only! I can't change any of the information or move things! All of them are locked and "read only." I know how to change it, but only manually, individually. I have several hundreds of folders and I don't want to manually change all of them to "Read & Write." Is their a way to let me re-set the folders to "Read & Write" easily??
if you'd be so kind...I've had my iMac for almost a year, but have yet to make the big switch totally. I am getting an external drive today to store music, photos, etc. Simply enough to set them up and have items go directly to it instead of internal drive? I know it is, just want peace of mind
MY big ?...I have lots of music on itunes on my pc...can I take it off the pc and out onto the external to use with my imac? Still have to do two separate partitions, or? Or, easier to get all my music onto ipod, then use Expod to download to the external? Once it is all on the external, how do I call it up, easily? itunes automatically search to play music from it and save new music to the external or do I have set it up or assign things differently?
At the moment most of my music is either stored on my Macbook or on an external hard drive. Is it possible to transfer all my music and videos to an external hard drive and then sync it with Itune so that every time I plug it in I can access them?
I have transferred my itunes music on to my external HD. The music is there and that is fine. I then deleted the old itunes folder from my actual HD. I have now wanted to access the music on the external HD, and have attempted to select the new music file location on the external HD via the itunes/preferences/advanced window, selected the new file path and it will just not show in itunes!
I finally ripped my music into digital format. It is a very large library so I performed the rips in four segments creating four folders of music. The highest level folders are Music1, Music2, Music3, Music4. The next layer folder is the artists name, then album name, then the actual MP3S. How do I merge the folders? If I perform a copy the first artist name is sees that already is exists, the finder wants me to skip the copy or replace the folder that is there. I simply want to add the folder or merge it. Is there a "merge" function in OSX? I tried Carbon Copy but it will not copy or sync fils on the same disk.
i got my mac yesterday and installed office and i already read thru some threads and i guess there is no way to really delete it from your doc. folder huh? also, do we need ichat icons (its stored in my pics) can i delete it or do i need it for some reason and for the ichat logs. how do i get rid of that?
My iTunes folder is in /Louis/Music/iTunes, but for some reason iTunes keeps creating a separate folder /Macintosh HD/Music and dumping a few songs by a few different artists there. I've tried 'consolidating' the library twice, deleting the songs from iTunes and re-adding them. I have the 'keep iTunes music folder organized' option as well as the 'copy files into iTunes folder' options checked. Nothing works. What is wrong? It makes absolutely no sense why it would create it's own random folder and dump the songs there.
With the ability to keep movies/tv shows in the folder where all the iTunes media is stored, what's the purpose of the individual music and movies folders in OS X? I'm trying to organize my media and would like to find out what the best way to do this is (right now I just have all my files in my iTunes media directory).
i downloaded a virus scanner for mac and found 18 trojans. so i deleted them and now all of my bookmarks and all of my music and folders in itunes have been deleted.
When I go into my iTunes folder (on windows ) all of my music folders are empty. There is an artist folder and an album folder for all my music but each one appears empty.
When I right click on the main iTunes folder it tells me that I have 26gB of stuff so it must be there somewhere (and I haven't set them to be hidden files). When I am using iTunes and go onto 'Get Info' for a song, it tells me that it is in the iTunes folder. Also, when I search for a specific song title in Windows, the file is shown.
Was wondering if anyone else was having this problem or knows of how to rectify it.
So I've been tinkering around with Automator lately and have been having some moderate success and fun coming up with different little workflows. I have now completely stumped myself on this one. I feel like it should be relatively simple but I just can't get it to work. Here's what I am looking to do. Within the iTunes Music folder I have all my artists listed alphabetically (I have iTunes set to keep my music organized). As part of my new backup plan I would like Automator create new folders based on the letters of the alphabet and then copy the artists over that belong to each letter so that the end result on my external drive looks like this
A -Alexisonfire -Audioslave B -Band of Horses -Beastie Boys and so on.
I've been able to do certain things in little pieces but they have all require manual intervention, i.e. filter finder items to items that start with "a" and copy to folder "a" but I have to manually enter the filter criteria and destination criteria. Is there anyway to do this without manually creating the folders and manually selecting the filter criteria and destination folder? I did find an applescript that will create the folders for me, can I add this to the workflow?
I have somehow managed to end up with iTunes splitting music between folders ( was not me honest ! ).
I have two Music folders within the same path.....A lot of my CD's now mysteriously have music split between two folders e.g. a single CD has Tracks 1,2,3 in one Music folder and track 4,5,6,7 is split in the other Music folder.....the same Album name exists in both locations but tracks are split between. iTunes / Preferences / Advanced - "Media Folder Location" = /Volumes/Safe/160GB iTunes Folder/iTunes/Music/One level below this iTunes Media Folder Location structure there is another Music folder = /Volumes/Safe/160GB iTunes Folder/iTunes/Music/Music *** I can only play songs using iTunes that point to this Red music folder location ***
I have the following checked ( enabled ) : "Keep iTunes Media folder organised""Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to Library"
I have ran from "File" / "Library" / "Organize Library" Menu the : "Consolidate files" "Reorganise files in the music folder" can't be run as it's greyed out
how do I merge back CD Tracks that have been split across these folders ?
I have used my ipod to copy some files and folders from my Windows PC over to my mac. However, now when I go into my iPod and I want to delete it off the HD of my iPod, it asks for my password, the details say something about "com.apple.desktop", or something along those lines. I put in my password, it accepts the password. However, the folders and files on my ipod are not deleted after asking for my password. I try to delete again, and it does the same process all over again. Each time, not deleting these files and folders.
I cannot delete empty folders from my Trash ( mac 10.5) I read all the threads in Macforum. Tried every possible code in Terminal, external programs that were advised. I found using ls -alO that one of my folder is hidden that's about it. But I have 5 folders in the Trash ( Zero KB), not deletable!
I have done too much to itunes. I have both wav files from recorded records and burned cds. To make my life easy and to fit all this music on my ipod. I want to start over on MBP and convert Wav files to mp3.
How do you creat a new itunes library and convert the wav to mp3?
Like the title says is it possible to back up only a certain folder in time machine? I'm a producer and dj and instead of manually backing my files up every few months I'd like it to happen automatically but I don't care for any of the other programs or anything on my computer.
I want to move my pictures, movies, music and documents folders to another internal drive. I read in this post that it should be a simple manoeuvre to move the pictures folder to another location and replace the pictures folder in the old home folder with an alias pointing to the pictures folder in the new location. I thought perhaps I can follow that procedure also for the other folders.
I have a lot of TV series that I have ripped into ipad compatible format. I want to be able to put them into a folder like a playlist for movies so I don't have to scroll forever to find them. If I need to use genre how do I tag the movies so they get sorted?
