I have a Mac Pro which has my Itunes Library Stored on. I would like to be able to access this Library via my Mac Book Pro and to be able to add media to the library via both Mac's. Both mac's are connect to my AirPort Extreme and have set up file and screen sharing on both, which works perfect
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using iTunes 9.1 on a Mac. I've set up my library on an external drive - works fine. I've created a shared library on my wife's profile so she can share my music. My iTunes Shared library appears on her iTunes - but I can't drag/drop my music into her library or onto her iPod. How can I transfer my music and playlists to her?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have a external hard drive on my wireless network and when I point two computers to the itunes library on that hard drive at the same time the second computer says the library is locked or I don't have permission to access the file. If I close the library on the first computer I can access the library just fine on the second.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy music and video library, totaling about 1.5 TB, is stored on an external USB hard drive. When I want to listen to something, I copy it over to my MacBook Pro (15" late 2009, 500GB hard drive) using iTunes. My home stereo is connected to an AirPort Express for audio streaming.
I can't really afford a TimeCapsule or an AirPort Extreme Base Station, either of which would seem to offer the most elegant way to remotely access my media library over WiFi (true?). Yesterday I found a Belkin Wireless N+ router at Costco for $69 that includes a USB storage port, and am wondering if it would do the same job for a quarter of the cost. Here are my questions:
1) Could I access my media drive wirelessly from my MBP using the Belkin N+ router? Is there another (better?) solution that I am missing?
2) Can I use iTunes to manage my library on the external hard drive, while also maintaining a smaller collection of audio files locally on the MBP's hard drive?
I'm not the only one in this situation! It seems Drobos and other RAID or NAS solutions are quite costly ... more so than an Airport Extreme.
I have spent the last hour attempting to add some movies to my ITunes library. These files are all in mp4 format.I have never had trouble before today, but whether I try to add them to the library through the menu, or drag and drop, nothing happens.I have the most recent ITunes software and am using a MacBook Pro with Lion.

When I try to play some episodes that previously worked (I havent played them for a year or so) they fail to open in Quicktime X (with perian 1.2 installed)
When I open the files in VLC they play as an mp3 would and I can hear tracks from my library that I recognise...
PS: my music and video libraries are on different physical disks and the videos are not in iTunes.
The one i would use is an episode of Robot Chicken, but I have at least 100 episodes doing this thing, although not all of my collection.
I have a directory of H.264/M4V files on an external HDD that I use in iTunes.I do this - without copying the files themselves - by simply dragging and dropping the contents of the directory into iTunes Movies.
HDD/H.264/(select all) -----drag into-----> iTunes/MoviesÂ
What I'm wondering however is - Can I get iTunes/Movies to AUTOMATICALLY update, when new items are added to this external folder on HDD/H.264? It hasn't been autoupdating thus far.Simply selecting ALL again HDD/H.264/(select all) and drag copying to iTunes/Movies DOES however add the new titles. Of course this has to be done every time I add something new.Â
iTunes freezes up when I select movies in my Library. I just downloaded a few new movies and now I cannot scroll to where they are without a freeze up. I have restarted numerous times, and have not opened any other programs while trying to access my list of movies.

I want to add a category of Home Movies to go along with the movies and TV Shows categories on iTunes. Can this be done? I want it to show up on Apple TV as a option also.

Is there a way to prevent movies you import/make in another program from being automatically added to iTunes?

My brother has told me its simple to switch over itunes library but sure he isnt gonna tell me, he is like that! My iMac desktop is tiger 10.4.11 & i want to transfer my itunes library, including apps/films/tv shows etc to my macbook laptop which is 10.5. I have uploaded most of my pics to mobile me so that they are safe but I have home movies also & want to secure them. I was gonna upgrade the imac tiger to snow leopard as Im probably getting a time capsule as a gift & would need to be 10.5 or higher to use it I believe but i decided against that. I will just use the desktop for general browsing etc & not keep anything of sentimental value on it.

Anyone know if this is known problem? I have loads of my video imported directly into iPhoto (I have compact camera which takes photos and video). When in iMovie I click on 'iphoto Videos' in the 'event library pane' and after a lot of thinking iMovie crashes!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Aperture3 on my MacBookPro 10.6.2.
I imported my iPhoto library to Aperture.
I have hundreds of movies in Aperture from two Canon cameras.
When I open iMovie, it correctly points to Aperture3 and begins to reference the movies in Aperture.
One quarter of the way through this process, iMovie hangs and crashes.
My MBP is running out of space and since I have a external drive that right now I don't use I'd like to move part of my podcasts library in the external HD. I have already copied the podcasts from the iTunes folder in my Mac to the External Drive and I have deleted the local copies. Now, I tried to add them to the library (File > Add to Library) but in this way it copies the file in my local hard drive. How can I keep the files in the external drive but make them accessible from iTunes like they were locally stored?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI love AirPlay. I use it on my iPod Touch the moment I get home to play music to my speakers connected via AirPort Express. I use it on my iPad too when i'm watching a movie..
Even on my MBP when listening to music from iTunes. But Movies in iTunes don't work. The AirPlay icon in a movie playing in iTunes only shows "computer" and doesn't show any other options.
I have been experiencing crashes while playing games and watching a few movies on my MBpro 15" Mid-2010 i5 Gt330m. It will just lock up all of a sudden and then play a continuous sound loop with a black screen. I then have to force shut it down, hold the power key down the first time-nothing....then try a second time to hold it down to shut it off and then it goes off.
Tried the update recommended by TS4088 and its still doing it. I have 10+ panic reports in the last few weeks. Can't play SC2 for more than 5-10 minutes. Took it to the Apple Store today and they ran a check and of course everything comes up fine. I can get it to crash every time by playing sc2 about 5 minutes in, always on minimum settings.

My iTunes library has apparently filled my entire iMac (according to the computer I have over 97 days' worth of music). I would like to know 1) how to properly save my iTunes library to an external hard drive and 2) how to use iTunes so that it uses the library on the external drive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I log into iPhoto I now get this message:
"There is a problem accessing one or more files in your iPhoto library. Do you want iPhoto to repair permissions for this library for you?" and it gives me the following options "quite" or repair"
Three crashes in a row, one even after rebooting. Different Projects selected and being selected. Crashes immediately after I select a Project in the Library Inspector, either by pressing and releasing the down-arrow key or by clicking with the mouse. Projects are newly imported, but have not shown any problems. Each Project that was the one being selected when Aperture crashed can be viewed in the Browser (confirmed afterwards). Aperture normal otherwise. C. 70K Images in Library. Â
First set of Projects with new camera (Nikon 1 AW 1 — gets my recommendation if you want a submersible camera with better-than-snapshot quality files) — but have not had any problems importing files or viewing Images or videos.Â
Did change the time-stamps on c. 1,500 Images a few minutes before crashes started. (Is there a dongle-doo-hickey-thing-a-jig that will sync the time settings on multiple cameras?)Â
Here is the opening of the latest crash log (from crash reporter window):

View 2 Replies View Relatedhow to save space on my MBA by pointing iTunes to my library on my Macbook Pro (While it is on). I've got sharing set up and I hold option while opening iTunes so that it asks me to choose my iTunes library. I try to point it to Shared > MBP > Username > Music > iTunes > iTunes library and it opens but doesn't show any of my media. Pointing iPhoto to my iPhoto library with a similar method works fine. Is there a file that I need to point it to hidden somewhere else? Apparently my media location on my MBP is iTunes > iTunes Media but it won't take that either.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThere are several improvements to iTunes that would make it more usable on laptops (i.e. recover useful screen real estate.)Â
1) allow me to turn off the giant rotating billboard ads when accessing the iTunes store.Â
2) allow me to size or get rid of icons in the sidebar. 2b) allow me to make the sidebar much narrower than the current limits.Â
3) reduce or allow me to reduce line spacing in sidebar and all windows (i.e. I want to see more playlists (in sidebar) and more songs (in main window) without scrolling).Â
Just now switching to iTunes 11. I have to say the UI is a step backwards. I notice there are folks online that offer iTunes skins (AKA themes[sic]). I cannot find any info on how to create those on a Mac.
The NAS containing my iTunes media crashed. I have been able to recover about two-thirds of the tracks directly from the original disks. Luckily the iTunes library file is still intact, so I know what is still missing.Â
There were about 10000 more tracks to recover :-(Â I am currently ripping them all back in. However, I have the problem that when I click on a track which is missing from the media, iTunes spends an interminable time (about a minute) trying something (the rotating beachball spins) before reporting that it cannot access the IP address of my dead NAS. I now have a new NAS with a different IP address. As far as I know, I have deleted all references to the old NAS (in Finder, using Remove from Connect to Server...). iTunes is using the new NAS for storing its media data.Â
How is it that iTunes keeps referring to the old IP address? What must I do to make it stop doing this?Â
My search skills are seriously lacking here, as I cant find a guide to do what I want.I currently have a windows 7 pc and an iphone 3g plus ipod touch which sync via the windows 7 pc.I have a 27" imac arriving on tuesday and want to transfer the itunes library from the windows machine to the new imac. What is the easiest way to achieve this?
View 11 Replies View RelatedIn iTunes 9 I have been having a crashing issue randomly. I have pinpointed it down to it happening when other users connect to my shared Library. As soon as someone clicks on my shared music library it sys connecting and My iTunes pops up the crash report. I am using a 2GHz MacBook with OS 10.6 Is anyone else having this problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHopefully someone will have the answer as I have searched high and low on this one. I have moved ALL my iTunes content (music, videos etc) to the Shared Music folder on my new WD MyBook World Edition 2 (just in case that's relevant info) and everytime my Mac attempts to load iTunes I have to repeatedly direct it to the library.xml file in the Shared Music folder.Surely there's a proper solution for this? Anyone else out there had this experience and has figured it out.I've noticed that it does this only the first time I open iTunes up, any subsequent bootup within a session is fine, but any restart of my Macbook Pro and I have to repeat this.
