View 2 Replieswe are trying to hook up our TV as a secondary monitor (for hulu, netflix, etc) but it defaults as the primary monitor. We would like to keep the imac as the primary monitor, and have the TV as a secondary, but cannot figure out how to do it! The only way we can get the imac back to primary status is if we use mirror mode. Once we take it off mirror mode, the TV becomes the primary monitor again, and there appears to be no way of switching it in OSX display preferences.
I've done similar hookups with my laptop, and the TV defaults as the secondary monitor. Why isn't this happening with our iMac? Any ideas?
I'm sure this should be simple but I can't figure it out.
I have my iMac connected to my TV and am using Plex to watch stuff on the TV.
What I'd like to do is turn my imac screen off without turning off the second monitor output (i.e. tv) as the imac screen is a bit bright/distracting (even on lowest brightness) when watching in the dark.
I've had a 27in i7 for a few weeks now and it's been working great. Just the other day, I set up a second user account on the machine for my wife. After messing with some of the preferences under the new profile, I realised that the mouse wouldn't "right-click" at all in that user account. I go into Preferences>Mouse and check the secondary click box, but this has no effect. When I close Preferences and open again, the box is un-checked. This problem is only in the new user account. My own, original administrator account has no such problem - right-click is working fine.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo, I'm not really expecting this to actually work, but is anyone aware of any way I can use my 20" Mid-2007 iMac as a secondary monitor for my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro without any wires and for free?
I add for free because I heard something about a program called ScreenRecycler or something like that, which costs money and thus I am not interested.
Can I use my Dell Lattitude D630 as a secondary monitor for my iMac? The port on my laptop is a VGA.
Is this possible? if so what kind of cord would I need?
I have a Mid-2007 Mac Mini and I've noticed every couple days, when I log out of the secondary account, it takes a relatively long time to return to the login screen. The blue screen sits there for maybe 30 - 40 seconds, but then when it returns to the main screen the whole machine freezes. The only thing I can move is the mouse, I can't click any of the buttons such as restart, sleep or get back into my account. I always have to do a hard shutdown.
View 1 Replies View Related24" iMac running 10.6.3 and having some issues all of the sudden with my secondary monitor. It detects the display and the monitor comes out of standby, but only shows a black screen. Tried it with another monitor to see if that was the issue but it's not. Seems as if the iMac is sending bad video signal out... Couldn't find anything similar on a quick google search so I thought I'd try here to see if anyone had any similar problems.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife's macbook monitor is destroyed due to happy 2 year old. It won't be worthwhile to replace the monitor and it is not fixable without some expensive work being done on it, therefore I would like to use our TV as an external monitor and retire the macbook to being a mediia computer. I have connected it to the TV, and I see an empty desktop, as far as I can determine it looks like it is treating the TV as a secondary display - that the desktop is extended onto - so I cannot actually interact with the normal desktop. When I try to run things using keyboard shortcuts I hear some sounds of things starting, but I don't see anything on the TV. So what I need to do is to have some way to tell it to treat the secondary display as the primary display.

I sent an email to Steve Jobs about my yellow tint 21.5 iMac issues (three exchanges, all affected, resulting in a refund). I got a call from Dena at Executive Care within 24 hours.
She said they are aware of the problem and do not know how widespread it is. According to Dena, the issue is not resolved and that ordering a new iMac will not result in a fixed display.
She said the engineers are working on it now and they are not sure if it's hardware (most likely) or software related. Further Apple stores cannot do repairs because they haven't determined what the issue is.
I'm trying to using my iMac wireless keyboad for my macbook pro while my iMac is in external display mode but I can't get the keyboad to connect. I've tried disconnecting the wireless keyboard from my iMac but it won't go into target display mode without the keyboad. Can I used my iMac wireless keyboard with my Macbook pro while my iMac is being used as an external display?

I've had a 24" iMac (alu) for about a year. Now I bought a Mac Pro (Love it!). Therefore i wanted to sell the iMac, but:
All the time I've had it, dust has been building up inside the screen. I thought it was inside the glass cover, but I carefully removed that and cleaned it and the surface of the LCD element. That didn't do it...
From what I can see, the dust is inside the LCD element. Building up on the white lit surface behind the LCD crystals. (See the attached image).
This is my first led-backlit display and the first big glossy display I have used. First of all, the display is amazing because of how accurate it is and I love using it. Then to the question:The display is sort of alive, stick with me i'll try to explain it as best as I can, english is not my native language
It kinda makes this very little brightness pumping that old crt tv's and monitors did. Same kind of effect but in a lot smaller effect, but you can sorta notice it's there. I have had none of those display image disappearance/flicker problems at all, display is working very well but I'm wondering if this kind of effect is normal with LED displays and does the glossy display enhance it/let more through? I'm thinking this might add to eye strain in long use but not sure(just like crt's did).
I have an external monitor attached to my MacBook Pro that I use as my only monitor (I leave the MBP closed). I'm also a heavy Spaces user. I want to start using the MBP's display as a secondary display, but I want to have Spaces treat it differently than it currently does. Instead of having Spaces switch both monitors, I want it to only switch my primary monitor, and leave my secondary monitor constant. This way I can have FireFox in Space 1 and iTunes on the second monitor, then switch to Word in Space 2 and still be able to control iTunes without going back to the first space. Is there any way I can do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere must be a simple way to do this - I want launch an application from the command line or a script and have it appear in the secondary display in a dual monitor set up on a Mac Pro system.
I have played around with the DISPLAY variable with no success. Every time I launch the app, it appears on the primary display.
Allright, I have a 24" iMac. 3.06 Core Duo 2 4GB RAM etc etc.
Just now, as I was innocently talking to a friend using iChat, the top of my screen flickered once or twice and then went dark. I am typing on it now, so it is not unreadable, it just looks like the back lighting has gone off on the top half. The middle is relatively light (bleedover from bottom back light?). I have tried playing with the hinge to no avail. After I reset the computer, cleared pram-nothing. Zippo. I got the top to stay lit for about a half second after reset, but it then flicked off again. Do I need to load up my iMac and drag my ass to the Apple Store (it really is quite a task to drive there)? Here is a horrible cell phone picture (and no, the screen IS dark, that's not a shadow.):
I have the mini display port plugged in and a vga cable from the imac to my external monitor. I should just be able to turn the monitor on and it work but the imac doesn't detect it and it just comes up as a black screen.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI use spaces with a projector as my secondary display for meetings at work. Any time I use the birds eye to view all of my spaces, my secondary display disappears, making it obvious that I'm tinkering around in spaces. Is there anyway to keep the secondary display stationary (IE not blacking out when I use the bird's eye view)? My goal is to keep my secondary display's desktop up at all times. I know you can press +tab to switch between apps, but is there anyway to tweak this in spaces so that the secondary display's desktop remains omnipresent? it does the same thing when you use the birds eye view in expose too. it would really help from being distracting when I use this feature for meetings at work. This way my secondary desktop could just serve as a digital banner that's always up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, for some reason when I have a secondary display connected to my Mac Pro, it will sometimes randomly get a yellow tint. Turning it on and off again will fix the problem, but then it'll only be a matter of time until it randomly gets a yellow tint again, usually when the display gets focus.
View 5 Replies View Related am using Mac G5 (Mac OS X 10.4) and i have connected dual monitors to it. Now when i open few applications like Adobe Indesign cs3, Illustrator cs3 the application opens in primary display and when i drag the image or picture to the secondary display the menu bars on the top remains in the primary display.
So how can i move/detatch the menu panel? and move it to the secondary display.
I give presentations regularly, and I always lock (with password) my MBP if I need to leave the room for a quick break. However, I often need to leave the secondary display projected on the big screen. Is there a way to keep the secondary display showing even when locking access to the MBP?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just got a new samsung lcd tv.
It is pretty good as a secondary display But is it possible to watch hulu using safari on the secondary isplay full screen. (hulu)And use my MacBook Pro to do other things at the same time? This is giving me trouble. Also anybody have any luck using pip with a samsung lcd tv?
For some peculiar reason, my desktop pictures do NOT change / rotate on my secondary display.
I have a MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2007) running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and I have dual displays. My primary display (the MBP screen) DOES change / rotate picture every minute, but I want my secondary display to do the same.
It seems that restarting does fix it, but only temporarily. I think it might have to do with plugging/unplugging the secondary display and sometimes if it's working, I disconnect and reconnect the monitor and then the pictures stop rotating.
All my desktop picture settings are correct in System Preferences. I tried unchecking then rechecking the "Change picture:" checkmark, but that doesn't fix anything.
I also tried clicking on different folders in the left column of the Pref Pane, then clicking back on my chosen desktop pictures folder.
Is there a way to exchanging/switch primary/secondary display in OSX via shortcut instead of manually dragging the menu bar between the "displays layout" in the displays pref under "Arrangement tab" ? I'm very surprised that apple didn't address this simple issue yet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNeed advice from those people buying an additional display to use with iMac 27.
Would you buy a smaller 24 inch iPS panel like Dell U2410 ($475 incl tax and shipping) or a 27 inch LED/TN panel (around $350 - 450) with the same size? I can also buy HP 2710M TN panle for $300
I'm not doing anything related to the Photo stuffs but Coding/Programming. So the Text should be crisp and clear ,easy to read .
Budget around $500, Please recommend any good 27 display that can meet my requirements, if you think I should go with the same size with my 27 iMac.
The title says it all really... Quite a simple problem that I can't find any answer to!
I've hooked up my 30" Apple Cinema Display to the new iMac 27" and the highest resolution I'm getting as an option is 1280x800... The iMac correctly detects the ACD as a Cinema HD display but limits my resolution. Why oh why?!
i am having a weird problem with my brand new imac.. I bought it custom made last friday with ATI Radeon HD 4850. Now here is my issue.. Every time i boot up it takes a while for the screen to turn on. I hear the start up sound and HDD working and all that but screen stays off for another 5+ sec. before finally going grey before apple logo comes up. Now I thought this isn't an issue since i did order it with ATI card instead of standard Nvidia. Figured different cards react differently. However, later on after playing a game for few hours and doing a restart it would do the same thing, but the screen would never turn on. Just stay black forever until i shut it down and wait a minute or two then power it back on. So to clear this up. What happens is, i push power button, start up sound happens, then black.... like it is off, not even the back light. This only happens every few days, not every restart.. I reset SMC, PRAM, ran hardware test, spoke with apple on phone, went to genius bar, and after all that and being passed around now the apple engineers are looking into my problem and i am expecting a call back from them. So i guess my question is, is there anyone else with this setup (ATI Radion) that has this issue?
