I give presentations regularly, and I always lock (with password) my MBP if I need to leave the room for a quick break. However, I often need to leave the secondary display projected on the big screen. Is there a way to keep the secondary display showing even when locking access to the MBP?
View 7 Replieswe are trying to hook up our TV as a secondary monitor (for hulu, netflix, etc) but it defaults as the primary monitor. We would like to keep the imac as the primary monitor, and have the TV as a secondary, but cannot figure out how to do it! The only way we can get the imac back to primary status is if we use mirror mode. Once we take it off mirror mode, the TV becomes the primary monitor again, and there appears to be no way of switching it in OSX display preferences.
I've done similar hookups with my laptop, and the TV defaults as the secondary monitor. Why isn't this happening with our iMac? Any ideas?
I have a Macbook with Snow Leopard and I plugged an auxiliary display on mini-dvi port. The display of the Macbook is my primary display and the other is the secondary. Is there any way to set the auxiliary display to be primary and the Macbook display to secondary?

It won't be worthwhile to replace the monitor and it is not fixable without some expensive work being done on it, therefore I would like to use our TV as an external monitor and retire the macbook to being a mediia computer. I have connected it to the TV, and I see an empty desktop, as far as I can determine it looks like it is treating the TV as a secondary display - that the desktop is extended onto - so I cannot actually interact with the normal desktop. When I try to run things using keyboard shortcuts I hear some sounds of things starting, but I don't see anything on the TV. So what I need to do is to have some way to tell it to treat the secondary display as the primary display.

I recently bought a Kanex iAdapt so I can use my TV as a secondary display. It works but there are a few annoying problems.
1) When I set the display output to any of the available resolutions (480p.720P.1080i) the picture is displayed - however the edges are cut off resulting in about 5 % of the picture being lost. this means that the taskbar on my mac is barely visible.Any ideas on why this is happening and how i can get it fixed?
2)This is more of a general question. A lot of the text that is displayed is blurry around the edges on all settings. Is this always the case for using TV's for secondary monitors?

I have an external monitor attached to my MacBook Pro that I use as my only monitor (I leave the MBP closed). I'm also a heavy Spaces user. I want to start using the MBP's display as a secondary display, but I want to have Spaces treat it differently than it currently does. Instead of having Spaces switch both monitors, I want it to only switch my primary monitor, and leave my secondary monitor constant. This way I can have FireFox in Space 1 and iTunes on the second monitor, then switch to Word in Space 2 and still be able to control iTunes without going back to the first space. Is there any way I can do this?

I have played around with the DISPLAY variable with no success. Every time I launch the app, it appears on the primary display.
I use spaces with a projector as my secondary display for meetings at work. Any time I use the birds eye to view all of my spaces, my secondary display disappears, making it obvious that I'm tinkering around in spaces. Is there anyway to keep the secondary display stationary (IE not blacking out when I use the bird's eye view)? My goal is to keep my secondary display's desktop up at all times. I know you can press +tab to switch between apps, but is there anyway to tweak this in spaces so that the secondary display's desktop remains omnipresent? it does the same thing when you use the birds eye view in expose too. it would really help from being distracting when I use this feature for meetings at work. This way my secondary desktop could just serve as a digital banner that's always up.

Turning it on and off again will fix the problem, but then it'll only be a matter of time until it randomly gets a yellow tint again, usually when the display gets focus.

Now when i open few applications like Adobe Indesign cs3, Illustrator cs3 the application opens in primary display and when i drag the image or picture to the secondary display the menu bars on the top remains in the primary display.
So how can i move/detatch the menu panel? and move it to the secondary display.

For some peculiar reason, my desktop pictures do NOT change / rotate on my secondary display.
I have a MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2007) running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and I have dual displays. My primary display (the MBP screen) DOES change / rotate picture every minute, but I want my secondary display to do the same.
It seems that restarting does fix it, but only temporarily. I think it might have to do with plugging/unplugging the secondary display and sometimes if it's working, I disconnect and reconnect the monitor and then the pictures stop rotating.
All my desktop picture settings are correct in System Preferences. I tried unchecking then rechecking the "Change picture:" checkmark, but that doesn't fix anything.
I also tried clicking on different folders in the left column of the Pref Pane, then clicking back on my chosen desktop pictures folder.
Is there a way to exchanging/switch primary/secondary display in OSX via shortcut instead of manually dragging the menu bar between the "displays layout" in the displays pref under "Arrangement tab" ? I'm very surprised that apple didn't address this simple issue yet.

So I've got the two devices, and I'd like to use the MBP's display as a video output for the 360. What I've also got is a VGA adapter for the 360, so I could connect it to a monitor instead of a TV. So basically, is this achievable, and if it is, what else do I need, in case I need anything else? Sorry for the improper way of writing this message, but all I have is an HTC Desire, and I find it quite difficult to type very well.

Newer displays just go into power saving mode and older VGA displays just are blank. Even tried DVI to VGA adapter on mini DP to DVI adapter with same issue. I'm guessing I have no analog output from the DP port. tried the SMC and PRAM reset with no results.

I use studio monitors (speakers) with my macbook pro 13 (2010) and a samsung 1080p external display. Whenever I plug the display in, it causes a hum in the speakers, and weirdly the pitch of this hum varies depending on the brightness of the contents of my screen. I have borrowed my friends USB audio interface, and I still experience the same problem, except the hum is now cleaner and louder. I would assume this rules out problems with the internal sound card.
In both cases, the hum stops when the sound card/output 'goes to sleep' (ie after there has been no sound output for a few seconds). Also the hum only starts when the computer is outputting to the display. In the few seconds between physically plugging the display in, and the mac sending a signal to it, there is no hum. This is why I'm starting to think this may be a problem with the computer and not the monitor. The monitor is a cheap (£120) monitor - samsung p2270HD, and also has a TV tuner and stuff.
What I need to know is whether this is a problem with the computer, bleeding the signal through to the sound output, or whether it's my kind of crappy monitor. Another thing, might it help if I changed from VGA (analogue) to DVI (digital) video output?

MacPro 8 core Nvidia 8800, RAID card - arrived 2/25. Tried second monitor; monitor is blank (and turned on, and says "digital signal" when unplugging display connector from the machine, so it's recognizing the connection, monitor is fine on old G5). RMA'd for a new 8800, rec'd that on 2/28 - same result, so it's probably not the card. Tried 8800 card in different slots, so probably not a slot. Ram lights flash, HD spins, power light is on, so likely not power supply. Motherboard or RAM is only other thing I can think of, or maybe some kind of incompatibility with the 8800. Also, the fans on both 8800's run at what seems like full power when turning the machine on - is that typical for the 8800? Maybe that's a symptom of the problem; it's a lot louder than I would prefer.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy sound keeps turning off. When I check the settings, the output device switches randomly between Internal and Digital output. I have no idea where the Digitial Output is coming from and this started about a month again. It switches randomly and then I loose all sound for a few seconds. Sometimes it happens once then stops for a few days, other times it switches back and forth for 5 min. No idea!!!

I just purchased a mac mini and I hooked up the vga cord, however there are two black bars on the left and right sides of the output (everything else is scaled fine but it looks like it is showing on a tube screen). View 5 Replies View RelatedI've installed a Mac Mini (unibody) on a friend's boat and have the display output through the HDMI port througha distribution amp to 3 TVs. I have been having resolution difficulties though. When the display is output this way (split three ways) the resolution does not fit the displays, and there is no means to change it to a setting where it will fit the TVs. All TVs are full-HD and 1080p. The screen expands outside of the viewable area.
