May 4, 2012

I had some updates for my Macbook Pro (snow leopard- up to date) and for some reason now I can't open pdfs on the web on either safari or firefox. If I download them it works, but I can't view them on the acutal browser anymore. When I open a website that is the link to the pdf it just pulls up a black page- that's it, you refresh it refreshes the same thing. I reinstalled Adobe reader (I use Preview though) and still nothing. I don't kow *** is going on.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Brand New Macbook Air Won't Open Or Save Pdf's

Apr 21, 2012

Files display pdf icon  but it says it won't open "because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged and may be corrupted" etc. I then installed adobe reader and still get same issue, I've downloaded several pdf's from different sources (old macbook and web, stored files I know are not damaged) I'm running mac osx 10.7.3 my java is SE 6 64/32 version 1.6.0._31-b04-415 if that makes any difference (read java could be a factor) pdf's will open from the web in safari but won't save like normal "save as" menu would, it says  "The document “Test_File.pdf” could not be exported as “Test_File.pdf”."

Applications :: Preview PDF Won't Open

Oct 28, 2009

I have no idea what happened. Overnight, Preview completely stopped working. When I double click a PDF, it'll bounce around a while in the dock and then the icon will stay there, though without the dot below it indicating that it should be running. When I right-click the icon, it says "Application Not Responding" and gives me the option to force quit it. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.1. I tried deleting the file in username/library/preferences and restarting Preview, but that did nothing. Anyone have a clue what went wrong here?

OS X :: Disk Image Won't Open Automatically Since Last Security Update

Nov 17, 2010

I am using OS 10.5.8.

In the past, I could double click on my disk image file (secure.sparseimage) and it would procede to ask for password and then open.

Since the last security update, when I double click on the same file, it opens disk utility. I then have to double click on the secure.sparseimage file in the left pane.

I checked disk utility preferences and it is still set to automatically open both read only and read and write disk images.

Anyone have the same experience and possibly an explanation or solution?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Open Pdf Attachments From Mail

Apr 29, 2012

When I'm in Mail and try to open or save to my computer and then open a pdf in Preview, I get an error message -"The file “Proposal to Seattle City Light - Wolverine Study 6Mar2012.pdf” could not be opened.  It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." This happens with all pdfs in Mail.  However, if I go to email account on the Internet and download the pdf it opens no problem. This is a new problem, though I can't say if it started happening as soon as I upgraded to Lion or if it happened sometime after (definitely not before).

MacBook Air :: PDF On Desktop Won't Open Or Go Into Trash

Apr 16, 2012

An icon appeared on my wife's Macbook Air desktop and she has no idea where it came from, what it is or how to get rid of it. It has a red and white "pdf" icon with the title Acr790289319801612880.tmp. Nothing happens when it's double clicked, or if she tries to open it under "File" then "Open." I changed the extension to .pdf and tried to open it, but no dice. If she drags it into the trash it makes the sound effect of dropping into the can but remains on the desktop and doesn't show up in the trash. How to get rid of it?

OS X :: PDF Attached To Email Automatically Converts To JPG

I'm using OS 10.4.11. When I email PDFs, they are automatically converted to JPGs unless I create an "archive" of them, in which case lots of people can't open them, including Mac and PC users. As a sometime graphic artist, this is a real concern. On my old iMac using OS 9, I never had this problem.

Applications :: Save PDF Attachments From Mail Messages Automatically?

Oct 20, 2009

I find this maddening and have searched high and low for help, so hopefully you've got an answer.

In my I have two accounts, one for personal email and one for work email. I also have a local mailbox titled "Submitted Forms." I receive forms from coworkers as PDFs in my work email account. I have a Mail rule established so that any email coming into my work email account meeting certain criteria (having an attached form, specified by name) is moved to the local mailbox "Submitted Forms." That all works fine. What I am trying to achieve, ideally using an applescript run by the rule, is to have any message that gets moved into that mailbox save its attachment to the desktop (or other destination folder). I have tried over a dozen similar-but-different example applescripts I've found online that claim to do this, but none seem to work. I've also tried tweeking each one with my limited knowledge of applescript to no avail. It really cannot be that hard for the computer to say "hey, there's a new message in that folder, I'll save its PDF to my desktop." Can it?

This is the basics of my goal. Ideally, the applescript/rule/computer would add the Received Date to the attachment name and would know whether it had already saved a given email's attachment(s), so as to reduce overwriting, possibly through read-status or flagging.
