IMac :: How To Open PDF's Automatically

I have an imac running snow leopard. When I click on a pdf file it puts it in my download folder. Then I have to click the Macintosh HD, click on downloads, and then click on the file.

My computer won't automatically download pdf files from the internet anymore.  My instructors post lecture notes in pdf format on our online learning site and they won't download when I click on the link.  Now I have to physically go in and save them to the computer in order to view them.  This just started happening this morning.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Brand New Macbook Air Won't Open Or Save Pdf's
Files display pdf icon  but it says it won't open "because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged and may be corrupted" etc. I then installed adobe reader and still get same issue, I've downloaded several pdf's from different sources (old macbook and web, stored files I know are not damaged) I'm running mac osx 10.7.3 my java is SE 6 64/32 version 1.6.0._31-b04-415 if that makes any difference (read java could be a factor) pdf's will open from the web in safari but won't save like normal "save as" menu would, it says  "The document “Test_File.pdf” could not be exported as “Test_File.pdf”."

OS X Leopard :: PDF's Open Very Slow - How To Fix It
When I navigate through the mounted OS X server and try to open a PDF, it freeze or is extremely slow in opening. No one else on the network has this issue. I tryed both SMB and AFP and still no change. The server works just fine. I am also able to copy the PDF's to the desktop and they open fine. The other weird thing is if I navigate to a directory where the PDF's reside and let it sit for a few seconds, then the thumbnails will populate and at this time I will be able to view the PDF's. It is if the files have to cache before I am able to open them from a mounted server drive.

Applications :: Preview PDF Won't Open
I have no idea what happened. Overnight, Preview completely stopped working. When I double click a PDF, it'll bounce around a while in the dock and then the icon will stay there, though without the dot below it indicating that it should be running. When I right-click the icon, it says "Application Not Responding" and gives me the option to force quit it. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.1. I tried deleting the com.apple.preview... file in username/library/preferences and restarting Preview, but that did nothing. Anyone have a clue what went wrong here?

OS X Leopard :: Preview Won't Open PDF File
I've just received a PDF file. I can open it with Firefox PC (at work), but when I do it at home Preview it gives this message:

To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade
to the latest version of Adobe Reader from [URL]

For further support, go to [URL]

If I use Safari I get the same message.

It's a PDF form that can be filled in directly with all my data as if it were a DOC ot RFT document. Do I have to download Acrobat Reader: is it my only chance?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Open Pdf Attachments From Mail
When I'm in Mail and try to open or save to my computer and then open a pdf in Preview, I get an error message -"The file “Proposal to Seattle City Light - Wolverine Study 6Mar2012.pdf” could not be opened.  It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." This happens with all pdfs in Mail.  However, if I go to email account on the Internet and download the pdf it opens no problem. This is a new problem, though I can't say if it started happening as soon as I upgraded to Lion or if it happened sometime after (definitely not before).

OS X :: Disk Image Won't Open Automatically Since Last Security Update
I am using OS 10.5.8.

In the past, I could double click on my disk image file (secure.sparseimage) and it would procede to ask for password and then open.

Since the last security update, when I double click on the same file, it opens disk utility. I then have to double click on the secure.sparseimage file in the left pane.

I checked disk utility preferences and it is still set to automatically open both read only and read and write disk images.

Anyone have the same experience and possibly an explanation or solution?

MacBook Air :: PDF On Desktop Won't Open Or Go Into Trash
An icon appeared on my wife's Macbook Air desktop and she has no idea where it came from, what it is or how to get rid of it. It has a red and white "pdf" icon with the title Acr790289319801612880.tmp. Nothing happens when it's double clicked, or if she tries to open it under "File" then "Open." I changed the extension to .pdf and tried to open it, but no dice. If she drags it into the trash it makes the sound effect of dropping into the can but remains on the desktop and doesn't show up in the trash. How to get rid of it?

Pages 09 :: After Exporting A Pages Newsletter To PDF The PC's Can't Open Correctly
We completed a really great Pages document using one of the newsletter templates, and then attempted to export it as a PDF to share. However, so far on our two PC's it either does not open with all the formatting in place or we get a message that "Adobe reader cannot open the file because it is either not a supported file type or the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and was not correctly decoded)."

I have looked through other postings and found that if I try File > Print > PDF-X may work, but when I do that, it shows the 'working' box but then says "Couldn't create PDF/X-3 document."

I then thought to export (and then save as) a Word doc but that messed the formatting up completely as well.
