View 4 Replies View RelatedThe past couple of days, for no apparent reason, my iCloud mail account starts acting strangely. Everytime Mail tries to connect to a server called "p03-imap.mail.me.com" and pops up the message that my password is rejected for my user name. This started happening without me doing anything to my settings. Strangely enough, on my iPhone and my newly acquired iPad2 this issue does not appear. Has something changed on the me.com servers ?

As I mature further, the information I take in tends to get higher and higher. Passwords, usernames, information, etc etc. I've created a .numbers document with a lot of my usernames and passwords for various websites / any information I need. This file has no lock on it, so if anyone would be able to get into my computer, they would be able to get that file with a little perseverance or a little spotlight search. I've tried going to "get info" on the file and tinkering with different options there with no luck. I've googled it, and the only (somewhat) promising thing that came up was to use Disk Utility and create a disk image. It states that is best for transferring through a flash drive. Since I am updating this almost weekly, I do not think that is the best solution. Is there a program, or a setting which would enable me to set a password on a file(s) or folder(s)?

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust did "Archive & Install" and when I am trying to move my OLD documents to the new locations, I get a Password dialog box, and it will only move/copy/trash them once I enter my password. I have tried resetting "Everyone: No Access" and "<myusername>:read&write" from CMD+I for all relevant files and folders, but it still does this. This is pertinent to stuff such as ~/Documents ~/Pictures etc, (NOT ~/Library by the way).

I have some files in my download folder, in my macbook's hard drive, but the problems comes when I am trying to move files to my folder called ''Documents'' and the system's requesting my personal password. I just realized that I haven't ever brought any computer in for service in 20 years of owning them (I've been lucky, I guess).I want to do everything I can to protect my privacy.I've moved sensitive documents and information off both internal hard drives.I've emptied the trash.I've also cleared the history and cache on all three browsers I use.
I'm not going to go to the trouble to move all video files and pictures off my internal hard drives.It's way too much data.There is definitely stuff I consider private that I don't want others to look at, but I just can't see moving all of it.I'd love to password-protect the folders so nobody can get in them, but apparently that isn't possible (I don't want to go through creating encrypted disk images--again, way too much data). I went in Finder and locked one folder, but it still opens up with no problem, so that didn't help.I presume this is because I'm the only one who uses my computer and I don't require a password on startup.I also presume that such a password wouldn't prevent techs from looking at something if they were so inclined.
I'm not as worried about all of this as I would be if I were bringing the computer in to some independent servicer (instead of the Apple store where I'm bringing it).But I really don't like the idea that the techs will have access to everything on my hard drives while they are servicing my computer.

In the dock, when you click on an app and hold it (or right-click) you can go to options and then assign on which desktop this particular app should open. You can choose on all desktops (which will make the app follow you, no matter to which desktop you are switch), you can choose on the desktop you are now on and you can choose none.But how do you choose several desktops? Is that even possible? Because I don't think so.I am using the Logic arrange window and would like to have the Mixer on a different desktop.

Back in February, I purchased the (at the time) base mode 15" MacBook Pro, which I shouldn't have returned (idiot). I spec whored and went for the Sony VPCF115FM/B, with i7 which has proven to be a catastrophic and horrendous piece of machinery.
It is coming in from its second round of repairs (still will have poor screen, battery life, and dismal 900MHz throttling when on battery). I am looking to get a Mac to replace it, and I've come down to a few options.
1) Get the baseline 13" model with hopefully the new BTS deal.
2) Get the mid line MBP from last generation refurbished for $1529 (2.66, 9600 320GB 4GB).
3. Get the low-end 15" from this gen with the BTS deal (required for me to afford it), and sell the iPod/Printer.
Do I need the power and screen resolution (size doesn't matter to me) or would the cheaper 13" cover me?
I've been getting panics every couple days with my OSX Lion. I do have vmware running always (which I need to). I'm attaching the dump below and wondering if anyone sees anything suspicious. It always shows chrome as the suspect, but I know chrome should not be able to crash my OS.

Had to reinstall 10.6.2 on IMac after erasing disk for an earlier problem with Adobe CS4 installation. The Adobe Tech Support could offer no help with all log files submitted and as a last resort suggested I erase the internal drive and reinstall system and applications. It worked. But: Two problems encountered so far are : Inability to assign F13 key "to look up dictionary" (default being command -control-D) and the F11 and F12 keys no longer control sound volume as they all did before the reinstallation. I am unable to assign the keys in the System Preferences as suggested by Apple.

Turns out, you must manually change every item in your Excel palettes that calls a macro. That's easy, you control click on the palette icon, select 'assign macro', and choose the macro.
But although that command was not greyed-out, when I selected it, nothing would happen. There was no error message.
I found no solutions on the internet, and in the course of the 30 minutes, tried various desperate things involving new taskbars, searching for mysterious excel.xlb files, VBA scripts to build taskbars. In the course of that, I broke a bunch of things on the palette. But I found the solution, and joined this group, just so I could tell the world.
