I'm curious as I've owned the rev. a MBA last year and I remember its display was very nice. Very vivid, crisp and clean. Can the same be said about the Rev. B MBA? I've read some places that said the new MBA's screen is not as good as the Rev. A's but it is better than the unibody macbooks. Also I'm very concerned about the line issue, is that really common? Or has apple fixed this issue?
View 17 Replies View RelatedBack in February, I purchased the (at the time) base mode 15" MacBook Pro, which I shouldn't have returned (idiot). I spec whored and went for the Sony VPCF115FM/B, with i7 which has proven to be a catastrophic and horrendous piece of machinery.
It is coming in from its second round of repairs (still will have poor screen, battery life, and dismal 900MHz throttling when on battery). I am looking to get a Mac to replace it, and I've come down to a few options.
1) Get the baseline 13" model with hopefully the new BTS deal.
2) Get the mid line MBP from last generation refurbished for $1529 (2.66, 9600 320GB 4GB).
3. Get the low-end 15" from this gen with the BTS deal (required for me to afford it), and sell the iPod/Printer.
Do I need the power and screen resolution (size doesn't matter to me) or would the cheaper 13" cover me?
When i put a PS1 disc into my macbook it spits it out after a couple of seconds. Why does this happen.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI purchased the 2.26 13" MBP (4GB RAM) yesterday afternoon. When I came home, I set it up and started to notice a couple of streaks (.5" thick) on the right side and half of the bottom of the screen. I have a 9C9E screen and have it tested it on the Earth (centered) wallpaper with full brightness. It tends to go away after 40% brightness.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with my external hard drive. I was using it the other day working with some of the files on it and it shut down my computer a couple times. The second time it did this, after the computer shut down, I would turn it on and then it would go right back off until I removed the hard drive and turned it on and it was fine. Now my computer won't recognize the hard drive at all when i plug it in. The light on the hard drive will come on but it will not show up on my computer.
The hard drive is a WD 1TB Passport and it still works fine with every other computer I plug it into, PCs and macs both.I have a late 2008 13" Aluminum Macbook
When I boot up my MacBook Pro (Unibody 17" 2011 model), it maks the CD noise, chimes the apple chime, then shows a grey/white screen. normally, this would progress to a grey screen with the apple logo on it, followed by the login screen, however in my case, the computer seems to just shut down. the fans keep running, so i know it isn't powering down completely. i can't change the volume/etc. after the computer has done this, so i'm assuming it isn't a display issue (also the display flashes white). does anybody know what this sequence of events is a symptom of? i'd really like to get my computer working again.

Kind of curious how often people upgrade their Macbook pro here. Anyone care to share? (also if its your main machine or not.
I have only had one so far.
To clarify i meant new machine
I have a 2.4GHz MBP, 4GB RAM, 320M, 500GB HDD. This is my main to-go machine, as well as my clamshell with my ACD. I am planning on ordering 2 updates for the machine (Already ordered the first one, actually)
1. 500GB 7200.4 RPM Seagate w/16MB Cache.
2. 8GB OWC RAM upgrade.
I hear both of these are ridiculously easy upgrades to do, and this also allows me to upgrade my PS3 slim's HDD to 500GB!
Do you guys think this is a worthwhile upgrade for someone who writes code in XCode?
Also, does anyone know how to back up my iWeb site so I don't have to remake it when I format?
So I finally made a choice and have decided I'll go ahead and get the 13' MBP to tide me over till I get my iMac and then use it as my portable.
I've been looking into some upgrades I could do though, looking to stay below 200$. I'm fairly sure I could do all of these fairly easily, especially with all the how to guides online, but are there any caveats that perhaps you more seasoned Mac upgradees would know?

I'm thinking about putting this HDD from OWC into it in order to upgrade to 7200 rpm and also triple the storage capacity. (For less than Apple's 500gb 5400 rpm HDD) I would keep the other HDD to switch back into the MBP incase I ever need to send it to Apple -- will there be any problems with this configuration?
And then I'll probably upgrade the RAM to 6gb. But there shouldn't be any problems with that, unless having a 2gb and 4gb stick together will create problems.
I may get a very small SSD to boot from somewhere down the line...But I'll probably cross that road whenever I decide to sell this model and buy a new MBP. I don't want to spend too much on an outgoing processor.
I have an 09' MacBook Pro and have upgraded the OS along the way. Now I bought a new computer and want to restore it and give it to the kids. Can I restore it with the factory disc without losing the upgraded OS? I upgraded with a family pack with my brother so I don't have the upgrade disc, he does. Thoughts?

I have the above listed graphics card in my 2008 mac pro 8core with 6GB of ram. I am wondering a few things
A. I have dual monitors and one of them does not look as nice and the same colors as the opposite. They booth are on the same settings and same color profile. So i am wondering if the monitor is bad or the graphics card possibly?
B. If i wanted to upgrade and not spend a ton of cash what would you recommend. My screen are capable HDMI and i have 2 so please keep that in mind.
Dock on my Lion sometimes freezes up and acts all weirdo. It stops magnifying + hotcorners won't work. You can still click icons tho. The only way I fixed it was by restarting my mac, which is not cool at all.

So, I have a 2009 MBP 2.66 Duo Core, 4MB ram, 320GB HDD, GeForce 9600M GT 256. I play mostly WoW, LoL, Civ, some FPS, Diablo 3- now that it's out, and a handful of others... I was planning on upgrading my HDD to 1TB and possibly doing a raid configuration for speed, as well as upgrading to 8MB ram. I realize the graphics card is going to be my biggest downfall- and to my understanding, not upgradable. I guess my question is, Is the memory and HDD upgrades viable even though I probably won't be able to do anything with my graphics?

Are there any good chemical drawing software out there? I am a student who is currently studying chemistry courses in the university. For those who are familiar, I am looking for some good software which can draw nice chemical structures also to include some of the mechanisms.

View 5 Replies View RelatedFor work & personal use I currently do everything from my Macbook Pro (w/ the Lion OS). In the near future I will be upgrading to an iPhone so I am considering plunging deeper into the Apple Ecosytem and moving over to iCloud.I mostly do all my email/calendar adjustments from my desktop using Mail & iCal. However, if I am not near my computer and at a different desktop I would prefer logging into icloud online to view everything (both work and personal). Is this possible or will I only be able to view my personal icloud info?

I want to upgrade my aluminum macbook's 5400 RPM hard drive to a 7200 RPM hard drive.
My question is: Will upgrading the hard drive void the warranty on the new macbook?
I've been pouring over the various threads on this forum and around the internet and I thought that I would share what I feel is the most useful info out there regarding the 5400 vs 7200, size, heat and noise issues.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just ordered a third new internal hard drive for my 17" Unibody MBP. The first 500gb drive I tried, Seagate Momentus 7200.4, died after just over one month of service so I replaced it with the slower Hitachi version and it started sounding like an old coffee grinder after less than two months. I don't recall hard drives having this many problems in the past and it is frustrating to say the least. The folks at Newegg do not support the products they sell after 30-days so I am going to have to duke it out with the manufacturers of both drives. Meanwhile, I am curious what kinds of luck other people are having with hard drive upgrades in their MBP's.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI've been looking for a router that'll let me share a HD via network and wow.... pretty much everything D-Link has some weird proprietary something or rather. Linksys has a few but the only one I can find that's also dual band is the wrt610n.
My Macbook Pro is out of the country for a while so I'll primarily be using my desktop PC for a while, and I have a girlfriend who uses her windows PC with a a/b/g/n wifi card.
So what do you think guys? Will APE work for me, or should I be looking into something else?
Can I partition the drive so I can use a portion for time machine backup while I use the rest for storage via fat32?
I've been looking at the Mac Mini server for my next computer purchase, but I've had a few things confuse about the set up. I've seen at least one thread where someone got their Mini server to use RAID 1 settings on the dual internal drive set up.
What I want to know is will a RAID 1 configuration play nice with Boot Camp?
Is it even possible to use boot camp on a RAID 1 configuration?and if it is possible, would the RAID 1 duplicate the Bootcamp Partition too?
These are three important questions because I like the idea of the RAID 1 security and because I'll be pairing it with a Blu-ray drive I'd most likely have to install Windows via Boot Camp to watch them.
The title says it all - getting a 2.4Ghz 13" MBP, 4GB Ram (rarely if ever need more), and thinking of a little boost somewhere over the 500GB 5400RPM drive. $300 for a 128GB SSD is pretty high, especially considering I'll probably max that out far too quickly. Is there any bigger bang for the buck performance upgrade over the Momentus XT?
The Rev C is very tempting, but I would be interested in upgrading the RAM and SSD down the road. Is that an option, and if so, would it be relatively easy?

I gave my HDTV away to a friend in need so for now, I'd like to use my new iMac as a pseudo-TV. The mini DisplayPort on the 27 inchers allows for both audio and video to flow both IN and out of the iMac, so what do I need in order to get this working? What kind of software will I need to use?
I'm connecting the cable box through its HDMI port and on the other end I have attached the (quite pricey) HDMI-to-miniDP adapter. Do I still need some kind of tuner? My cable box is brand new and also has FireWire, USB, and Ethernet ports.
