May 8, 2012Just received the "Please turn machine off by holding power button" error... now my machine won't turn on. It makes the chime, loads the status bar about 10% then turns off. Tried starting in safe mode: no luck. Held Shift+cmd+V and it loaded most of the text, as expected, but then turned off again without completion. I did try verifying and repairing disk permissions on a disk a few hours prior... which failed. But I was merely browsing on Safari when the initial error appeared.Â

Intel Mac :: Cannot Connect To MS Exchange Server Using Outlook 2012
Jun 3, 2012I am running a network using a Time Machine as my DHCP server and Verizon wireless router. I use Microsoft Exchange for email, etc. For hours at a time, my Intel iMac (OS 10.7.4) will not connect to my Exchange Server using Outlook 2012, and I can not connect to the Exchange server using my browsers-Google Chrome or Safari (Outlook web access). I get errors that the server is not available. If I use another computer on my network, like my MacBook, it connects both through Outlook or Web Access in a browser window.
I have the same problem on my iMac whether I connect via ethernet or wireless. Firewall is disabled, using no proxies, etc... The problem may persist for a few hours or a day at a time and will spontaneously resolve-I have tried changing DHCP settings, etc... The problem occurs for all user accounts, and does not seem to differ if multiple users are logged or just one. The Exchange server address is the only web address I seem to have this problem with.

Jun 30, 2012I have searched and googled in different forums and found this issue but never found a good resolution or explanation. many of the posts were related to 2009 or around that time. since yesterday I started to hear a noise like clicking or something (it's a hard disk noise that we all know and have heard) from my hard disk. I have no clue where it comes from. my mac is absolutly idle and no huge process or I/O is going on. its happing once in 10 minutes maybe. Well, I want to start observing it on when exactly it happens! but to me it should not happen!

MacBook Pro :: Intel HD 4000 Doesn't Recognize RAM In Mid 2012
Jul 1, 2012My shiny new Macbook Pro has already had a logicboard (Mac-ish for motherboard) replaced due to this. Games (tested Battlefield Bad Company 2 and GTA IV) crash within a few minutes with the screen freezing and showing random colors as the sound starts stuttering and the only solution is to do a hard restart - see image below. GTA IV tells me that it only recognizes 60 MB VRAM so I guess that the problem is with the graphic card not being able to use the computers onbard RAM (8 GB Corsair Vengeance). The RAM doesn't fail any tests and the computer works like a charm in OSX for days on end, even with heavy Lightroom/Photoshop use. Drivers are up to date.

Jun 14, 2009I want to install a new, larger HD in my macbook and then make it my primary computer. Currently, I have most of my info on my aging G5 iMac which is slowly starting to fall apart (i.e. optical drive/keyboard no longer work, making strange noises, etc.). I know that, once I put a new, larger HD in my macbook, I will have to format it and install Leopard. Is there a way to then transfer all of my info from the iMac to the new HD in the macbook after I put Leopard on it? I currently have a Time Machine'd backup external HD hooked up to my iMac.

Dec 4, 2009my parents have an iMac (not sure of the exact model except its maybe 2 or 3 months old). Anyways, it's kind of in between the living room and the kitchen and is used often (among other things) to play music in those two areas using iTunes.
I was wondering if the Apple Remote Control would work well... the only catch being that the remote is IR and that the position of the computer means that a lot of times, the remote would be facing the side and backs of the computer. I doubt the remote would work but I also heard that the remote's IR is very robust.... is it strong enough to be able to used from these angles (im assuming by bouncing the signal off walls or something?).

It's got 384 MB of RAM and a 700Mhz Processor, along with what I believe is a 50Gb Hard Drive (I haven't found a way to check for sure). It's running Mac OS X 10.2.8. So here's my question. Is there a way to totally flush the hard drive (or reformat it) to get rid of any sensitive data, but then be able to install or keep the OS files and get it running again?

2. I currently own a 2009 Macbook pro 17 which is great but im going from a home based job to one which means a lot travelling - car, plane, public transport. Thus im selling this to get a more compact and travel friendly mac. I mostly use it for internet, mailing, file viewing, some online games, itunes and a few programs like Power Point and Photo shop. I cant decide whether to get a new air or a new 13 inch screen pro. A cd/dvd drive isnt important at all really. Any ideas or advice.

Jun 14, 2012Had a storm with a power flux and mac went down. Started it back the next day. Ran a first aid on the hard drive system first (all icons on desk top worked fine, showed all software installed, all documents, etc.) Everything checked out.
I have an Iomega external hard drive attached to use as back up. When I ran the first aid on that the system froze. I turned the computer off, waited and then rebooted. Everything came on again, but this time, my screen saver was the original one, not the one I use, all the added icons from the desk top bar were missing, back to the original ones loaded at time of purchase, all my documents are missing, as in everything except for my pictures on the hard drive, all the info stored on my desk top, everything GONE. NO sign of where anything went. The system seems to work fine as far as that goes, but there is none of the materials from the past 5 years of use. Can't even find my emails from Apple, nothing. That's all gone as well. Called up Apple support but because the warranty is no longer in effect, will have to pay for service. Am ready to do that if this fails.
