Dec 3, 2010i have a new mid-2010 i5 iMac with a radeon 5750 processor, and would like to run linux on it, however, ubuntu 10.10 isn't working, i get through the whole install, and restart, and it won't boot. i've installed rEFIt, and it shows up as installed on the drive, but won't boot to anything but black with a flashing white line on the top left. known compatible working version?

All of the online reviews are for the 512 MB one. I'm not looking for super high performance or what not, but playability and graphics to look decent. Like for example, will Crysis be playable?

Jun 3, 2010first time poster; I've recently acquired a iMac(8,1) and I was hoping to use it to edit video footage. I'm debating whether I should purchase Final Cut Studio. I was told it wouldn't really be worth it unless the graphics card was Dedicated as opposed to Integrated.
I'm not sure if the computers powerful enough to run studio - or perhaps just Final Cut Pro. The Graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT. Is this graphics card sufficient to run Final Cut studio?

Nov 14, 2008I purchased my Mac a few weeks ago, wanting to both upgrade my computer.......and play Diablo 3. I do always want the best out of my systems and the person who sold me the mac told me it would be fairly easy to upgrade the card...well he was wrong. He also told me a few days later not to worry about upgrading since the system is already great.
I went to a local Mac store and asked about the upgrade and found out it would be close to or above a grand for the part from Apple and the labor.
Heres the breakdown:
$875 - Card
$130 - Labor
$15 - Shipping (from apple)
Are there any other ways to find this part online cheaper and just hopefully pay for the labor?
I just really dont want to pay a grand just to upgrade my damn video card, and I know within the new year Apple will release a much better fast computer and I'll be mad. I really wish it wasn't such a hard upgrade.

Aug 7, 2010I have read a few posts of new i7 users posting various stats on their machine. I am specificaly interested in the gpu performence (without OC). I am a traditional tower pc guy, but i have slowly but surely been able to convince myself of the relative merits of going loaded imac i7 over low end MP (the least of which is the horrible value and waiting 500+ days for no real improvments other than having the base now include a few bto upgrades to save you a few hundred bucks...but dont get me started).
Anyway, back on message, NAS solves my concerns about extra HD's, the cpu is certanly fast enough, mem not an issue...so my only concern is gpu.
Just looking at it from a price perspective, i am not sure how comfortable i am that a $130 graphics card will keep me fat and happy for 3 years (tech refresh assumption). I don't need a $600 cards, but when i have typicaly built pc's, the last few years, a $300 or so card has kept me happy. With the imac, it appears that switching gpu's is not easy or something i will probably do during its warranty covered life cycle....
So how good is the card (sorry it took so long to get there). I am a somewhat power home user...not professional, but i probably fall under the label i saw floaing around on another post as someone using 500 bucks of sw to load up raw images of their cat...or in this case kids and a golden retriever. I love games, but to be fair, my xbox has replaced most of my need for quick fps. 27in is a big screen. Can i play most games at full frame/speed extra? I assume photo shop cs5, et will work fine.
i really am on the fence on which one to get, i guess next week hopefully i can really price compare them, but the MP just seems to be such a god awefull value that its hard for me to jusitfy buying the low end model...my legacy prejudiceness against all in ones is taking a bit to get over...the imac seems to be the obvious choice.

Aug 6, 2010My new iMac i5 (Mid 2010) is dead... after only 3 days using it...I was watching a movie in quicktime and suddenly all screen was messed up (lots of artifacts and coloful pixels all around).
It looks definitely a hardware problem (I would say a graphics card) anybody knows anyone else having the same problem? Tomorrow first thing in the morning I'll be going back to the store and returning it. I hope to get all my money back (2.000 Euros).

it seems to me, that the Geforce Gt 120 (ealy 20009 Imac) is in fact an MXM III,M76XT+/256MB,GDDR3 Card, witch means, it�s an Mobility Radeon2600XT from the previous Imacs, just on an MXM III socle ( it would get better benchmarks because of cooling an higher clocks).

May 2, 2010. I have a G4 Power Mac running OS 10.5.8. Three years ago I changed my AGP 4X Graphics Card that came with the computer. It was an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro. I installed a new Graphics Accelerator Card Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition. For the past three years it worked beautifully with clear sharp 3D imaging. However, on Monday April 26, my monitor started showing vertical and horizontal flickering wavy lines. I thought it was my monitor that went bad, so I tried another monitor from another Mac and it did the same thing. Luckily I kept my old AGP card that I removed. I reinstalled my old card and the monitor is showing perfect with no wavy flickering lines. Can anyone tell me what is the problem? Do I have to buy another Graphic Card? The Radeon 9800 was great for playing games with 3D imaging.

I don't know that it will work though, I know that the NVIDEA that comes standard in the early 2009 Mac Pro does not work in the early 2008 Model. -Is it normal for this kind of card to run ALL the time? How do I know if it's acting correctly?
-Given the heat and fan speed info below, are my Mac and internal drives OK?
-Am I risking any breakdowns? Due to heat or fans running too much... or?

Apr 16, 2009Has it frozen more than once since the time you've received it. Hopefully we can get some idea of what's going on. specify what CPU your system is running (2.93 or 3.06 ghz), along with info when you ordered the system, and when it was shipped.
